I'm new to this site, and a little confused, do we vote our least fav to be eliminated, or our fav to stay?

I don't know why everyone is so concerned about the opinions of casual fans. The best albums, are only accepted by diehard fans anyways, not casuals.

Appetite for Destruction
Joshua Tree
Achtung Baby
Exhile on Main street
The Bends
Sgt. Pepper's
Ten
Nevermind
Metallica

and the list goes on and on and on to prove your theory wrong.

While the majority of people may agree with this i think it seems to prove the theory right rather than wrong.

As a "die hard" G n R fan i'm still undecided as to wethere CD of AFD is my fav, but..

As a "die Hard" U2 fan, myself and many other die hard fans, whilst enjoying the joshua tree and actung baby, prefer the unforgettable fire and War. Where as all "casual" fans all prefer the Joshua tree and actung baby.

As a die hard stone's fan i can categorically inform you that the majority of die hard stones fans prefer Beggar's Banquet, Sticky Fingers, Goats Head Soup and even Voodoo Lounge to the "casusual fan" favourite "exile on Main Street".

As a "casual" radiohead fan i do prefer the bends, my friend matt is obsessed with them and prefers Pablo Honey, he's about as die hard as you get.

His other obsession is Pearl Jam, wose album Bianural (or something like that, is his fav. I am a casual fan, who likes ten.

All die hard beatles fan's think of "Sgt Peppers" as weird tosh, and will site Revolver as the greatest album.

I am a die hard Metallica fan and I, along with many others would site Master of Puppets as their best work. Discussions with other die hard metallica fans produce arguments around wether "MOP" "ride the lightening" or "And justice for all" is their greatest work, and it is generally only casual fans who side Metallica (or the black album).

As for Nirvana, no die hard fan woould site nevermind in the top 2 albums, personally i dislike in utero, but that is the die hard fans favourite.

The best album is a matter of opinion, but you seem to have listed the albums by top bands which the casual fans who don't for part of their die hard fanbase like best as an argument against a point which it sorely misses.

Linkin Park's last album (minutes to Midnight) is better than Chinese Democracy. At least in my opinion it is and I'm not even a Linkin Park fan. Just thought that album was pretty stellar.

I personally thought it was univentive and really just the sort of album you'd expect from a fomula'd metal band such as Linkin Park.

But that is really besides the point. I was refering to the Live album, on which they don't even do themselves justice.

Kerrang havent known what good rock is for at least 15 years
Seriously, the digital tv radio channel they have play nothing but, what sounds like, the same song all fucking day.. if it were not for the talkin inbetween you wouldnt know when the song finished and the next one started.

Indeed. It has been a long long time since Kerrang was worth the fee.

It's five o'clock somewhere in its entirety is all you need to know about snakepit.

#8 Re: Guns N' Roses » What affect did the leaks have on you? » 821 weeks ago

I purposefully didn't listen to any of the leaks, as a musician myself i know how urksome it is when people get hold of works in progress, unfinished songs and lyrics that you aint happy with and don't want people to hear in that form. I hold all these things dear to me and put my soul into a song then i wan t people to hear it on my terms, not a half finished mock up which i've recorded in order to play back to myself, or to play for a certain respected person, say a band mate for instance, to get an outside opinion on how it is coming along and what may improve it.

I totally understand axl suing and personally wanted to hear the album and the songs in the format they were intended and in the context they were intended. Not a crappy recording of an unfinished work in progress by itself when it's meant to sit within the wider context of an album which as a whole is an emotional rollercoaster ride.

The only songs i had heard were Chinese Democracy, Madagascar and "teh blues" which axl decided to play at the gig's i'd seen him play at.

I suspect that when he does tour it he may play the album in it's entirety from to back and follow that with some of the older material, and hopefully even newer material if he feels it ready to put into the set.

As for others, i think the majority of people made up their minds on chinese democracy a long time ago and they were never gonna like if. My girlfriend listend to it through on cd once and decided it was crap and not a patch on old-guns. A friend of mine gave it one listen, through laptop speakers, streamed from myspace, and decided it was rubbish. That isn't and informed opinion, that is a token gesture to try and give justification to a preconcieved opinion on an alum which, in actuality, is fantastic.

I was guilty of the reverse when contraband came out. Thre ex gnr members on an album? I loved it before i heard it. now there are only 3 songs i like as much as i did and the rest I'd called "listenable". As for Libertad and aint life grand, i think both those albums are gash. I hope Slash's forthcoming solo album is a return to the sort of form he has been sorely lacking since 95's Five o'clock somewhere.

The problem is axl's not given an interview in so long everyone believes the crap spouted by Slash. There was a great quote from weiland once he left VR. He said (and i paraphrase as i don't have the magazine with the interview here with me) "There was nearly a huge row in the press between me and axl that aros ecos one of the band (VR) had seen him and said he'd been slagging me off. I know now it's not true and having spent 5 and a half years in a band with these guys my opinion of axl has changed, I used to think it was him that broke up GNR but io don't believe that anymore".

A lot of my friends have really taken a dislike to the album, claiming that the music has no feeling or soul in it. All of which is complete tosh. Some of Finck and Thals guitar work is as soulful, if not more so, than the slash and izzy stuff. Granted the Solo's don't match up to slash, but who's do? guitar players that good are few and far between. There is still some excellent guitar work on chinese democracy, and as Slash himself said (and again I paraphrase) "Hearing Axl's voice on record after so long is great, he's still got the best voice in rock".

To me the Album itself is pure brilliance, It's the perfect mix of ballads, old school rock and newer influence thrown in to boot. It Gripps go by the ears from the balls riff which comes in over the weird build up in the title track rocks through Shalcklers Revenge, Elevates your emotions with Better then turns your world upside with Street of dreams, It starts to build back up with if the world and there was a time then he unleashed Catcher... Fast becoming my favorite gnr song ever. The segwar of Ctacher to Scraped to Riad could not be any better, solo to fast building, using musical progressions to link to the previous songs and then "sorry". Comes out of no-where, some venomous lines spat out in a way reminicent of Dylans idiot Wind on Blood on the tracks., IRS is just a sheer masterpeice which builds you up to a frenzy, At which point MADAGASCAR Brings you back down to earth and hits you with questions of humanity and the things that have gone before. This is followed up by this i love. A definate candidate for the greatest ballad of all time. And the icing on the cake is prostitue. What a closer that one is. It manages in one song to recap the emotions and sentiments of the 13 songs you've just hard and leave you at the same time completly satisfied but still eager for more.
