I think Street Of Dreams and Prostitute could have fit too.  Stuff like Shackler's Revenge may have been different, but I don't think Chinese Democracy as a whole was a different genre like some say.  Just strip it down a little and it's not too far off.

I'm really interested in hearing this as I'd love to give my thoughts.

People may disagree, but provided we're getting a new album I think they should call it Use Your Illusion 3.  I'm not the first one to say that and it probably makes people cringe, but hear me out.  Axl is 59 years old and it's no secret it takes him forever to release new music.  His voice isn't in the best of shape judging from the tours.  Give us a double if not triple album to make up a Use Your Illusion 3, because unlike The Rolling Stones we're probably not going to be getting that much more stuff.  Have what is likely to be the last GNR album at Axl's age and in his condition be a big release.

I really do want to hear it and see how it compares.  For a while we were like people dying in the desert from lack of water....err....new GNR music.  But now it seems we have something.

I hope everyone here stays safe.  Unless it's a landslide one way or another like James said, I'm fearing civil unrest.  This was a tense year as it was with the pandemic, and uncertainty could make this even worse.  Fearing the potential for civil unrest I made sure to be well stocked up with food and other essentials and I'd advise you to do the same in case that happens.  That's not a bad idea anyway between the pandemic and for those of us that have to deal with winter weather.

AC/DC is easily in my top 5 bands, and may soon enough take the number 1 spot due to a certain band's lack of activity. 4

It's my most anticipated release in years.  I wasn't sure Brian would be back but was thrilled when they announced he returned.  As cool as it would be to have an Axl/DC record I have no problem with them sticking with the guy who they've kicked ass with for decades.  I'm really looking forward to this bright spot in an otherwise horrible year and can't wait to hear it.

#5 Re: The Sunset Strip » What Are You Listening To? » 218 weeks ago

I've been on a big Buckethead kick these past few days.  I liked him plenty before but probably the lack of new GNR material has me even more motivated to listen to him.  This morning I listened to Electric Tears all the way through for the first time and loved it.  Electric Sea gets played tonight.

I remember there was a thread where I think it was you bigbri and James talking about which albums/songs Bucket released after leaving GNR where you felt they could have been GNR songs had he stayed.  With the time that has passed do you have any more thoughts on what Buckethead material could have been GNR material?

It's been a while and I'm glad to be back.  How is everyone doing?

Their last Twitter post had me a little hopeful, but that just turned out to be them showing they were about to perform.  Some of the first responses to it said what we've been thinking.  I'm still going to be hopeful that we get something new this year.  It wasn't right towards the beginning of 2008 that they announced Chinese Democracy was coming out, but we got it come Fall.

And I'm being absolutely serious when I say this, I wish they'd release Rock The Rock for download.  I'm tired of having to keep going to Youtube to hear it.  Even if we get no new GNR album this year that's the very least they could do.

To think of how many wrestlers that got bullied by JBL only for Joey Styles to be the one to put him in his place and give him a black eye.  Let's also never forget the chairshot heard around the world: Stevie Richards giving JBL some payback for what he did to The Blue Meanie at One Night Stand 2005.

#8 Re: The Sunset Strip » Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker » 257 weeks ago

I'm looking forward to it.  The first trailer that was released at Star Wars celebration which ended with Palpatine laughing got me really interested.  I didn't hate The Last Jedi like a lot of people seem to, but I was disappointed.  One of the criticisms was Rian Johnson left JJ Abrams with nowhere to go, but I disagree with that.  Even though I think it sucks that they killed both Snoke and Luke, they ended with Kylo Ren being the new leader of The First Order and people being inspired to fight against them.  We also see there are more people out there with force abilities besides Rey and Kylo.  There are a lot of possibilities.

The Force Awakens was a lot like A New Hope and The Last Jedi was a lot like The Empire Strikes Back, so if the trend continues then Rise Of Skywalker will be a lot like Return Of The Jedi.  I'm fine with there being some similarities, but these can't just keep being retreads.  Personally I think they need to drop the trilogy format after this.  Keeping numbering them as episodes, but don't make it so every third movie needs to cram as much as possible in it to wrap the story up.  They also need to plan these out ahead of time because I do find it hard to believe The Last Jedi was exactly where JJ Abrams wanted to go after The Force Awakens.  How much of Rise Of Skywalker will be JJ Abrams retconning certain things from the last movie so he can get the story back to where he wanted it?  We'll see in a few days.

#9 Re: Guns N' Roses » It's happening. » 257 weeks ago

We know there's all sorts of material from the various post-Slash lineups and Slash wasn't against playing Chinese Democracy songs.  Axl wasn't against singing Slither either, even though the man that previously sang it (RIP Mr. Weiland) said some pretty bad things about him.  They seem to be more open to ideas and compromising with each other.  Whether that would mean them coming up with new stuff together or reworking stuff they made separately I don't know.

This is grasping at straws obviously, but Chinese Democracy was released during an election year.  2020 is an election year too.  If we don't get an album by say October or November 2020 then I'll be saying "They're not going to release a new album", but despite having been down this road several times where we thought we might get a new album because they were touring only not to get anything, I'm going to try to remain optimistic at least this one last time.

If GNR does do a final album do you think that's it for Axl completely or would he finally decide to do his solo projects which he said were more instrumental and on the film score side?  I like what you said James, there really could be at least three sets with the pre-breakup material, the CD era recordings, and then a new reunion era  release.  Maybe if after that Axl did his solo stuff he would release more since not having the GNR burden on him.  Who knows, giving him artistic pursuits outside of GNR might recharge him and could be beneficial to new GNR material down the road.
