Compare this AI monstrosity to something they could have done, with a small crew, and 3 basically no-name/before their big break actors, on a non-union shoot somewhere:

How much do you think that cost? Not a lot.

We could have had a little allegorical story about child abuse and something interesting going on, a very small movie, instead we having something that's better suited for the background of a 'lyric video'.

The Better leak 'leaked' in multiple segment teases. In the interim, fans spliced the parts together (it wasn't the whole song yet). Then the whole song was put out there. The original leak had some differences - there was an additional "I know you know you know I know Better" segment that the final and other releases didn't have. It was a high quality source (not a cassette), but a pretty 'blah' MP3 (128 kbps) from a bad encoder. I also suspect it was on a CD, then ripped from that CD and put into an MP3 or iTunes file, and then THAT was burned to a CD which was then ripped into an MP3 that ended up released.

At some point, an instrumental was leaked. I believed this was an iTunes file.

The Better leak was interesting because 1.) it wasn't sourced from a tape, 2.) It showed the blending of 'techo', 'numetal', and also 'rock', 3.) it wasn't using the clean voice Axl had been using live and showcased on leaks like TWAT and IRS - 'oh, he can still sound like Axl', 4.) it actually sounded like it belonged in 2006 and you could imagine it playing at a party or a bar.

Any idea how much money GNR grossed with Not In This Lifetime (and whatever the other legs were called)?

I think more people on here can’t get over the fact that Slash and Duff returning had absolutely no effect on “new” music. None!
Sorry….Tommy and Duff are a wash but Slash doing songs that were written for Buckethead’s lead style are going to end up neutered and inferior.

I’m happy to have these interpretations of those songs because I still like Axl’s lyrics and semi old school voice.

That is a bit of a surprise... Like Slash and Duff playing over the parts, instead of making them sound like Slash and Duff, or going out of their way to leave a mark. It's telling that some were sure these were Slash and Duff leaks, versus others thought it was a pre-reunion leak from a vault, and then others were ambivalent. It lacks a signature. All I could say for sure, is that it reminded me of Sorry.

I, too, am glad these are out, in any case.

Last I checked it was officially released as a single.

It would seem its somehow both. At least its better than Hard stool, that song wasn't released it fucking escaped.

HAHA. That's a funny phrase. But it's also funny the diversity of opinion. I really liked Hard School, demo and as-released. It felt like a song fans would have loved in 2000 and it also had a vibe that could have fit into a 96 record. And I thought it still worked.

The more I listen, I love the lyrics, the awesome vocal melody and the spooky guitar.

If I want to find problems I would note that all of these new songs had a lot of repeats. They are all awesome song concepts that feel a touch unfinished somehow, and I think its that they all feel like they need a new 3rd verse or something of that nature.

General for instance feels like the build up part of one of Axl's epics. But it doesn't complete. Hell, Slash sounds like he's just getting warmed up to go nuts when it ends, I think it needed a huge guitar outro whole Axl kept up with those screamy bits in the background...

It's like NR if it didn't have the two slash solos or the outro, or breadown with out the outro, or locomotive if it was just 1 verse. Basically I think what is there is awesome but it feels incomplete. I wonder if Axl felt this too and that's why these songs were held over so many years - waiting for an idea that never came? Maybe not too though.

Anyways despite my bitching I do enjoy all this new music, and i'm so glad he's finally sharing things again.

I think this is accurate and I agree with this. And I agree, I generally, like the song and vocal melody. The production/mix let it all down.

And YES - it's like an incomplete song, as are most of the Chinese Era left overs (and some on Chinese). A solid guitar solo, or an outro, a bridge, another verse... sometimes a chorus is what's missing, a breakdown/change up.  "Waiting for an idea that never came" is a good theory. It DOES remind me of the November Rain demos where he's got the CORE of the song, but not the middle or last verse, not the ending coda, no Slash solo. If Coma was a Chinese left over, we'd have gotten 15% of the song.

It's like that CM Punk (I think) quote on WWE.... "The problem is that everything there could be SO MUCH better and it isn't."
Like, THIS is the mix we stuck with? THIS is how we wanted those vocals produced? THESE are the ONLY songs you put out?

*Shrug*

It's GNR.

#9 Re: Guns N' Roses » The General and Monsters » 50 weeks ago

I don't get the thinking.

"Yeah, so, we have one of the most distinctive rock vocalists ever... so we're going to make it sound like he's singing through a tape recorder over a 1993 landline phone... and burry that in the mix. And then we're just going to turn everything to 9 so everything is loud."

If and when Axl is ready to write and record some fresh material Im sure they would be all in.

Axl still stuck in the ChinDem era. He lost his vision and spark about 15 yrs ago. Hes a man without any vision. No balls.

Well, maybe he said all he had to say, or what he thought he wanted to say, he doesn't care anymore about? Or maybe recording it and it 'sort of' coming out made him get over it? Or maybe he's embarrassed by what some of the songs were or were meant to be? I wrote my poetic ass off once trying to get some feelings out during a particular time in my life... and now just the thought of those feelings make me cringe. What would he write new music about? Procrastination, anxiety, perfectionism, bordem? Being in a completely unrelatable and surreal situation compared to your family or whatever grounds him? How he can't go into Ralph's and get a pint of ice cream at 2 AM? Who knows what the vision is.
