#91 Re: The Garden » 2011-2012 NHL Season » 681 weeks ago

No way they repeat next year.

How bad for the NHL is this year's Cup? It must be pretty awful, because I'm a big hockey fan from a loyal market who would right now much rather watch Spurs/Thunder and Celtics/Heat than any hockey series since the second round. It's bad enough for the NHL that they have Jersey in the Finals, now they have a second consecutive season where the Cup winner won't be among the most talented, exciting, or successful regular season teams.

And Jersey, 2 goals in 11 periods?? Come on!

Best of luck to 'em. They have enough trouble communicating their propaganda to their own people. Count me in the "whatever" camp - not that it isn't strange or interesting, just that it's not going to change my life or the world I live in.

I agree with slashsfro, if this was on a cable channel I'd think "that could be a really cool idea" and I'd check it out. Never saw Luther but it's still on a list I have of things to watch on Netflix, I know it's really well liked. The major networks, particularly NBC, now have a reputation for canceling shows, moving them around, and in general mishandling them into oblivion. Hard to get into anything on the major networks without going through "will-it-won't-it" renewal stress every year.

I only watch NBC's Thursday night comedies (Community, Parks and Rec, 30 Rock) and I'm sure that night will suck in a few years too.

Seems like a fine idea to me - everyone wants to avoid Facebook charging for general usage, so this allows those most willing to pay to contribute without punishing those of us that would consider leaving. It doesn't make any of its current features off-limits, it just lets people pay their way to the top of my news feed. Google does the same thing.

Would be cool to check it out - leak talk? Wow. Been years. Without the 06 leaks I probably wouldn't have gotten on board with post-Slash GNR - in fact, the raw potential of those Better, TWAT, IRS, and (yes) Catcher demos still gives me regrets about the final product.

I'll admit I have no business picking the Western conference, where 3 of my 4 misses were. Boston/Caps went to OT in game 7, I had Bruins in 7 but Bergeron missed the net - oh well. Who didn't have the Pens winning? After Philly's performance in round 1 I think they have to be the Cup favorites right now.

So far it's been crazy with parity. Western Conference will be represented by a really new face. None of those teams have been contenders in the 21st century that I can remember. Should be interesting - especially St. Louis, which should be a strong hockey town but has had a terrible decade. Pittsburgh, Boston, and Buffalo didn't sell out when they were terrible in the early 00s, I think a Blues run could make that market a lot more fun.

Also, as much as I prefer having a Winnipeg team to an Atlanta one - recognizing all those hockey markets I just mentioned that sold poorly in down years, and how Atlanta never put a good product on the ice, was it really fair for the city to lose them? Thrashers had no chance to get big if they never won, and that's true of most American markets - even a big original 6er  like Boston

I tweet, but it's really only about the Bills and Sabres or other sports happenings.

#98 Re: The Garden » Nfl Draft - Free Agency » 687 weeks ago

I'm hoping Bills can get either Martin, Hill, or Glenn. Gilmore's a nice addition at a needed spot but we need an LT.

I think Dolphins and Jets both made poor selections. Surprising to see Pats trade up for the front 7, probably will pay off.

#99 Re: The Garden » Nfl Draft - Free Agency » 687 weeks ago

I'm hoping the Bills can get Riley Reiff with their #10 pick, but in the past they've been confident developing unknowns (Jason Peters, Demetrius Bell) so if they have a gem for the later rounds, they can think about Michael Floyd as a legit #2 option at WR. I've heard some mentions of Coples or Upshaw, or Dre Kirkpatrick, and while those players would improve the team, I'd rather trade down if we're just trying to get someone like Kirkpatrick. But I don't know who will want to move up. Tackle and a #2 WR are the Bills' offensive needs. Defensively they bought a pass rush with Williams and Anderson joining Kyle Williams and Dareus, and have safeties that can play. The D will struggle, but most Ds do these days. A pass rush is a big luxury. Patch up that offense and go get 10 wins!

#100 Re: The Sunset Strip » Hologram Performances Discussion » 688 weeks ago

Yeah the issue of who owns your image would be a major concern. And if you get an inventory of legends in that form, would festival tours of them be able to take a lot of money away from current, living artists? I certainly think so. I'd spend less on living acts to see holograms of certain dead legends I've had no chance to see. Over time the inventory and accuracy of the legends will only grow and grow... world tours for living people - that's expensive! Not to mention the greenhouse emissions. Maybe I'm crazy but I think public taste would definitely be honed to this as long-term costs go down. And then music will have lost something it's had for a very long time.
