The live show kicks fucking ass but I feel without new music of some variety it's hard to really feel like you're a fan of something moving forward rather than just reliving the hey-day

Yes, this is my feeling.

I'm happy to pad Axl's retirement fund but in a just world, the band would be recording and learning material while Axl is out with AC/DC and prep a release just before Christmas. The timing isn't ideal and the politics of the thing is a Gordian knot but Axl should pull an Alexander and cut through that thing.

I get people are excited and are having a blast but heaven forbid fans talk about fan things and new music. Gasp! Shock! Stone him immediately.

One wonders if the great Robin plays on this. I would assume so.

Talk amongst yourselves.

Really?

I must say to me the prospect of Slash and Duff adding to CD songs interests me more than the idea of CD2 without them does. I think CD was amongst Axl's best work but I think the old band has a much better chemistry than what ended up on those recordings.

You're right about the chemistry of the album but the 2002 band had pretty amazing chemistry. I realize I'm in the minority being romantic over a band that barely existed.

We also don't know what this band would write together and if they could even manage to choose a musical direction. I like Sympathy and some Spaghetti but new songs without Izzy will be interesting.

Good points, Zombux.

Sadly speculation and all that is all we have. I'm all about new music though.

This makes me wonder if the situation might be that he hopes Slash will want to re-do the CD songs but if it turns out he doesn't then he'll have to work out if he can get away with releasing non-slash versions with Slash in the band.

But I agree...somewhere there's nearly 2 albums left of stuff...at some point you think they'd do something with it huh!

If CD II is released, I'd wager there's some re-recording to accomodate Slash and Duff but I also think Axl is sentimental and realistic enough to keep major contributions by Robin and Buckethead in tact.

With releasing music, I just think that Axl has a lot to prove still. It would be wise for him to capitalize on the public good will and release more ambitious outings while you have that working in your favor. That and you aren't getting any younger. Fuck it, release an album a year.

I wonder if this all turns out like The Mats and they finally get down to making babies and it all feels icky.

For the record, I declare my bias outright: the NITL tour is a great show but nothing about this operation interests me. I checked seeing Axl and Slash off my bucket list. I'd kill for a Bucket, Brain, Melissa/Pitman, and Axl lineup.

It's been 7.5 years since CD. I should just punch myself in the dick for continuing to follow this band.

Wagzilla.....the various trilogy concept definitely entered "plans changed" status years ago. LIkely entered a new one when Slash and Duff joined.

I disagree with Ragnar that they cant be on it. Its possible..... its just that they wont be promoted if its released.

The China Exchange interview seemed to show that Axl didn't really give a fuck either way. He'd accomodate if Slash wanted to play on it but that he wanted to release more music as Guns n' Roses and he had a lot recorded already.

I just don't buy Axl not releasing CD II / CD III when he's worked so hard on them. "I worked too hard for my illusions just to throw them all away...". Maybe he sees Slash and Duff as helping the public accept his work with the new band.

I just think despite the tour cash cow and bad timing that Axl would want to release new music sooner than later. Probably wishful thinking on my part.

Also I agree about the bullying thing but I wonder if Axl was even at the studio when it was going down and if the students weren't doing it behind the teacher's back.

I listened to it awhile ago but I can't say I remember it. I'll have to revisit it. It's been mostly his chill stuff to help me relax.

I posted this elsewhere after the concert but I snapped this at his show earlier this year.

Outside of the drunk druggies (why do I attract them like flies) it was a way better show than when I saw him in 2011.

I've been listening to a lot of Bucket lately. I hadn't listened to "Captain EO's Voyage" before. Really great stuff.

Secondly, I'm not even sure Axl holds a candle for that line up. I forget his exact words but he said something at the chinese exchange interview along the lines of him being proud/fond of the line up just prior to reunion. So I'd rate a cameo of DJ/Bumble as more likely that Robin/Bucket.

You know, as much as I didn't give a shit after Robin left, the 2010-2012 band was actually pretty good.

James Lofton wrote:

Like I said, guest appearances are likely best case scenario. What wigzilla seems to be implying is some new hybrid for a CD II release/tour that adds Bucket and Robin into the band.

I just find the whole situation odd.

Tommy said they had 26 finished songs IIRC. Sebastian Bach talked about "The General" being on the third album of the trilogy. We've heard varying number of songs from various people involved in the project throughout the years. Axl said he wants to release more music as Guns N' Roses and that it'd be great to have Slash play on CD II, but that wasn't discussed and soon wasn't the word.

So Axl likely wants to release 2 albums of material. Let's say they do and it's two years apart between releases. That's a minimum of 4 years of touring upon material written by other people. Which Slash and Duff could live with, who knows.

I guess it's possible the current band writes material and it fits within Axl's amended vision and that helps the pill go down more smoothly with Slash and Duff. But then we're in 2021 (2017, 2019 for others) at the earliest, the band is in their 60s, before we're talking about starting from the level with this new band.

There's of course the variable that no material is ever released, Axl retires GN'R, and other potential outcomes.

I also do agree that appearances by either Buckethead or Robin are unlikely. It's just quite the pickle from all angles.

I enjoyed that soundtrack piece.

I'd love to see Robin in something a little hard rock-esque but I dig the guy's work.

That solo was pretty good in a raw sort of way but I prefer his Paradise City one from Rock Am Ring 2006 and Sossego from 2002. Great stuff.
