It still pisses me off that they ruined that riff with those lyrics.

You can't go wrong with petty.

I actually read his autobiography earlier this year, and I didn't realize how much I didn't know about him.

For instance I didn't know that for something like 2 years in the 80's they toured as Bob Dylan's backup band.  They'd play their own set, then back up Dylan.

Then he ends the book with thoughts on a TON of his songs one at a time.  Which is awesome if you're a music geek like I am.

One of the few people who have consistently put out great music (albeit, not a ton of variety to it) for around 30 years.

The most irritating thing is he said we'd be told if there were any more delays, is 9 months after the March 6th date not considered a significant enough delay to tell people about?

but remember what MSL said.. Axl was going to start communicating more openly but doesn't like all the negativity that comes out of everytime he does speak.

I believe that open communication wouldn't draw negativity if it's honest and direct.  The fact that some of the things he's said has misled the fan base (whether intentional or not) does not bode well for his cause.  If Axl came out tomorrow and gave us the exact reason why CD has been delayed umpteen times and gives a legitimate expected release date (if one exists), there would be little to no negativity.  Sure, we'd have people who'd bitch and moan about the reasons and blame everything on Axl, but for the most part we'd accept it as sincere and move on.  News on the entire saga would be better than what we have now, no matter how shitty it is.

Right, I think the reaction right after the letter was more positive than not.  Given, there was also a large contingent of "I'll believe it when I see it" as well, but I think it was more positive than not.  Then as his tentitive release date got closer and none of the proper promotion and other things that he mentioned had started to happen, and there weren't really updates things turned negative quick.

When I first read the open letter, I looked at everything he said and thought it made sense as things that need to me done before a proper release.  People (I myself was one of them) started doing the math and noticing that March was pretty impossible given all the parameters that Axl had mentioned.  So why did he even throw the date out there?  That was where the negativity came out for me, it seemed like he had to know it was bullshit when he wrote it, even though he went out of his way to say it was only tentitive.

That's why I tend to agree with Backslash, just be honest about what's going on, and I think for the most part people can reason it out as making some sort of sense.

Unless your reasoning is something like an old woman telling you the air doesn't smell right for a cd release this month.

[I take a lot of that for granted now but when I was a kid, guys like Summerall, Madden, Dick Enberg and Merlin Olsen made it easy to appreciate the teams I was watching by being more insightful than just explaining the Xs and Os.  They really brought the teams and players to life while explaining what was going on during the game in such a way that a kid could understand that.  I'm 36 now and I sometimes forget when I'm listening to one of these guys "over simplify" something or ramble on about something aside from the game that they're doing it for the casual or inexperienced viewer and not for me.

I've been trying to convince a friend of mine for years that he hates all color commentators for exactly the reason you just said.  He won't listen to me though.

Actually, I just saw my biggest pet peeve during football.  When the official says- "False Start, on the offense." or "False Start, prior to the snap"

I'd like to see the defense false start after the snap.  It'd surprize me though.

That drives me fucking crazy.

I didn't get to watch the games yesterday but generally speaking I think that both Michaels and Madden do a great job.  I think John Madden doesn't get enough credit for his insights because of his personality in the booth and the fact that he occassionally makes mistakes.  For years he carried Pat Summerall on CBS and Fox and breathed life into Summerall's nuts and bolts play by play style.  Al Michaels has been the class of the NFL play by play guys for years now and I think that he and Madden make a good pair.

What other tandem does as good of a job or a better job than Michaels and Madden?  The MNF crew isn't very good at all and I can't think of any network announce teams that consistantly deliver like Michaels and Madden.

I totally agree with what you said about Michaels, there's nobody now who can touch him, and I'm not sure if there ever was.

I'm a flip-flopper when it comes to Madden though, just when I start to like him he says something that makes me want to toss something through the tv.

I still remember this exchange from a few years ago:

Michaels: He had all kinds of time to throw that ball.
Madden:  Yeah, the key word there is "all kinds of time".

Given, it's live tv and they don't have the luxury of a script, so dumb things will come out from time to time, but they happen A LOT with Maddden.

Can anyone give me a reason to vote for Obama?? I know Obama cant, but maybe some of his followers can pull a rabbit out of a hat. He doesn't stand for anything. Its always generalizations, or mentions something when a different candidate brings up the subject. Like Hillary, he just wants to be president, and will say or do anything to get it. He has no real reason to seek office, he just wants it.

I say let him live life another 10 or 15 years or so, then seek the office.

McCain is not going to be president. That ship sailed years ago. He's just too old. I know Reagan was 70 when he became president, but that was a different time and people were more accepting of it then. Besides, Reagan had the charisma of a 40 year old and had a vision for the country and the world, and his age could not be an obstacle. The same cant be said of McCain.

As far as your 1st paragraph, I can't give you specifics on Obama, but what you say about he and Hillary "just wanting to be president" is true of pretty much every candidate for this election.

That problem along with the fact that most of the candidates who do have a "real reason to seek office", their reasons scare the shit out of me.

As far as McCain, I do think he has the charisma to overcome his age, but I would agree that he doesn't necessarily have a clear plan, as you said.

It's yet another Tweetledee or Tweetledum election.

#1047 Re: The Sunset Strip » The TV-show theme song: dead and buried? » 911 weeks ago

I have a ridiculous uncanny ability to remember the theme to TONS of tv show theme songs only after hearing them a couple of times.  It at one point was to the point of being a party trick.  I can't do it as much anymore, or at least I haven't tried for a while.

Tv show themes have always been a pretty big part of pop culture, and give you that warm/fuzzy about certain times in your life, so I think the trend to not use them any more kinda sucks.  I really think it will be back and would compare going away from it to when guitar solos disappeared from music a while back only to reappear a short time later.

James mentioned Welcome Back Kotter, it made me think of this

(They talk about Fred Thompson's wife in that piece too, but Liz Kucinich has a tongue ring for Christ sake.)

I liked McCain a lot better 8 years ago.  I think he was a lot more staunch about his beliefs that didn't all lie in line with the Republican party then.  At some point during Bush's presidency he decided he wanted to be president more than he wanted to stand by all that(obviously, just my opinion).  Although he's still much less far right than most Republican candidates.

That said, he has a lot better chance of getting the nomination now than he did 8 years ago too, so maybe that was the right thing to do.  I still like him better than most of the other Republican candidates(all of them that have a chance, sorry Dr. Paul), but with a lot of my views that isn't saying much.

I just hope that McCain and Paul make enough of a showing in the primaries to illustrate how much most people's views don't folllow right along party lines like most major politicians seem to like to believe.  The fact that most elections are won something like 52%- 47% should show that.  52% was a failing grade in every test I ever took.  Give me a viable 3rd party candidate and that's where my vote would most likely go.

Kucinich can't drop out yet.  I need to see some more of his hot wife.

The Lions fired Mike Martz.

I suppose they have to shake things up, but that's about the last thing I would have expected them to do.  I don't think the guy was much of a head coach, but he was born to be an O Coordinator.

They're already saying San Fran's gonna pick him up.
