It's that time of year again. Dog days of summer are just about over, fall is coming in hot. Figured we had a somewhat lively topic for the season last year, so might as well start another one. Could this be Buffalo's year? I think it might be. Does Tom Brady have another SB run in him? Ultimately I think his offensive line may hold him back, but I've learned to never count the man out. AFC West looks like it'll be much more competitive this season. As a Patriots fan, I am not very hopeful. They looked awful over the summer. That doesn't always mean much, but it's tough to get too excited based on how bad they've looked. I'm predicting a 7-10 season.
I also setup the fantasy football draft for Tuesday 9/6 at 8:30 PM EST, for all returnees. I look forward to defending my title. I have to be honest, I completely forgot I won last year.

Man was that an ugly game last night, unless you’re a Bills fan. I didn’t feel good about the Pats chances heading into the game but I didn’t expect a complete beat down like that. Josh Allen was awesome and the Pats D was awful. Not a good combo. Bills D played well too. I wouldn’t overreact too much though going forward. The Bills are a much better team than the Pats. The gap is much closer with the Chiefs and Titans.
Bengals took care of business too, though at least the Raiders put up an admirable fight. Bad play call on that last play but they never quit despite all they went through this season.
There are always upsets but it just seemed to me that the top 4 seeds in the AFC were much better than the bottom 3. It’s looking like it’ll play out that way. The best shot at an upset in the NFC would be San Fran over Dallas in my mind but it wouldn’t shock me if all the favorites advanced.

It is the best matchup for New England since they know the Bills well and they don’t really want to run the ball. But the defense needs to play much better than they did the last time they met. They could not stop them on 3rd and 4th down. And Isaiah McKenzie had a career day against the Pats 4th CB (Myles Bryant) who may have to log heavy minutes this week with Jalen Mills on the Covid list. Bryant was so bad, I couldn’t believe they kept trotting him out there. Jackson held his own against Diggs and he wasn’t a major factor. It was the ancillary pieces that killed them. Plus Allen threw a couple balls that should have been picked, one to Jackson who is usually pretty sure handed. Those could changed the trajectory of the game.
Bills are a more talented team without a doubt. Pats need to get off to a good start and keep it close to have a chance at pulling off the upset. They ran the ball well the first meeting even though everyone knew that’s all they were doing, but they’ve been getting beat at the line of scrimmage lately on both sides. Can’t have that. They can win for sure, but I don’t have much confidence that they will. I’ll know what kind of game it’ll be after the first few drives. Avoid the slow start and they have a legit chance. Get down 14 or 17 early and they have no chance. I know that goes for most teams, but that’s been their issue all season long. Mac had been able to bring them back in games within a score but then the defense can’t come up with a stop when they need it.

I don’t think I ever played NFL2K or Gameday. I haven’t played Madden in years but those were good times. Simpler times for sure. The last console I bought was a PS2, so I’m a little behind the times. Maybe my daughter will get into video games. Although she can’t sit still for 2 minutes so that seems unlikely.

The Raiders have a decent roster but they’ve just had such a turbulent year with the Ruggs deadly DUI and Gruden getting fired for the whole email fiasco. It’s a testament that they were able to keep things together and make the playoffs.
Weather in Buffalo should favor the Pats slightly, but they have to play from ahead. Way too often this season they give up a TD on the opening drive, go 3 and out, and give up another score. They’re not built to play from behind on either side of the ball. Can’t stop the run on D and they want to run it on offense. Not a good recipe when down 2 or 3 scores.

Madden 2000-01 was awesome.
They were better when they had to compete with other games...
2k, Gameday, QB club, etc.
Once they got exclusive rights to the NFL, they got lazy.
I wish they'd lose the rights.
We played Madden 2000 franchise mode in college. I was the Patriots and I controlled Willie McGinest on D and averaged like 5 sacks a game. Broke all the records. Crazy that Tom Brady was in that game as QB 12, 22 years ago.

AFC is pretty wide open. There is no real favorite. Tennessee is probably the most complete team especially if Henry is back to somewhat normal. Chiefs D was playing real well for a stretch but they’ve regressed of late and their offense hasn’t really clicked all year. The Bills are up and down. Bengals finished strong but they are young and untested. Patriots have been bad since their bye aside from annihilating a very bad and Covid ridden Jaguars team at home. And I’m not sure how the Raiders and Steelers made it in. I think all the home teams should win, but that rarely happens so I’d expect at least 1 or 2 to slip up.

I’ll always remember him for calling that first Patriots Super Bowl and saying Brady should take a knee at the end of regulation. And then once Brady led them on the game winning drive he said, “what Tom Brady just did, gives me goosebumps”. That gives me goosebumps to this day.
And not that it really matters but I disagreed with his take of taking a knee at the time. They dominated the first 3 quarters of that game but the Rams made a furious comeback in the 4th. No way I wanted any part of OT the way things were going. Had to at least try to score and they played things very conservatively to start.

Played “Madden” religiously through my teens and early 20s too.

Doesn't it?
Why then is everyone who works for the organisation media shy?
By nature of their extreme fame Slash and Duff field gnr questions for life but they always answer with "it's fun, can't recall, don't know, don't ask, and I'm here to talk about fluff".
The other guys like Dizzy and Richard and Melissa, Frank etc really only take interviews when they have a side gig and get cornered then they usually make vague promises about how lots more happens than we know and it's all going to be bad ass until they are asked when and then they hear their mom calling outside and have to go.
The actual management seems to only talk to the media or make public statements to tell us what victims they are of outside circumstances or how desperately we all need to go fuck ourselves for the crime of liking the band.
Yet, weirdly, the minute people leave this organisation, like DJ and Bumble, and Gilby and whoever they tend to go back to sane and rational communications with fans and media.
So if it's not that Axl requires a culture of silence and secrecy around the band, then who does it come from?
In the era of the ancient Chinese secret, Scooby Doo mystery act of the new GNR years?
Absolutely.
Now? I don't think so.
Part of it may have to do with it but like I said earlier, none of these guys(especially Axl) is going to risk imploding this thing over small potatoes.
Let's say in the next interview, Slash is asked about the Chinese vault...and he mentions a Bucket song that's ok but Axls vocal take isn't up to snuff.
Would there be any real blowback from that?
I doubt it.
I think we've reached the point where they know no matter what they say or if they give updates, chances of it happening are slim to none due to how the organization is run.
Hell...if they had mentioned an anniversary box set for AFD... something easily set in stone for any other band ...they would've been a year off!
It has to be frustrating.
The Chinese guys definitely walked on eggshells around him though. That was one of the problems...they had no power in that dynamic. While dealing with that, also forced to deal with shoddy management.
Polluxlm does make a valid point about how history impacts how you act around someone....I just don't think they're "afraid" of him anymore.
that’s how I see it. I don’t think there’s any mandate laid down by Axl to not say anything about the inner workings of the band. Nor do I think Slash or Duff is afraid of Axl. They just know the pros and cons of what they do or don’t say. It’s one thing to talk about the MKC Conspiracies or whatever they call themselves. The reach is a lot less broad and they have much more control. They know how it works in GNR. What do they gain from spilling all the beans when they’re all working towards a common goal? Same thing for Ron, DJ, etc. They can talk freely about their own side projects. They have no control over what happens in GNR. So why even go there?

If Absurd and Hard Skool hadn’t already been released, these comments would deserve a lot of scrutiny. But since they’ve already opened the flood (drip) gates, I’ll take Slash at face value. I think we’re getting more. I certainly do not rule out getting the likes of Oh My God or their interpretation of Better though.
I wouldn’t mind hearing CD songs that got lost in the shuffle along the way like The Blues and IRS if they go the route of songs the masses have heard already.
