#101 Re: Guns N' Roses » The next GNR album: Current known state of songs » 96 weeks ago

I think time changes perspective.

Like in 1987 when Axl has his full powers, and when the band is working on songs like YCBM. Then a song like "Shadow of your love" isn't that good.

Revisit life 35 years later and Axl can still go but he struggles to achieve his former peaks.

Suddenly a song like Shadow is more valuable as the effortless vocals in the traditional sound have become rare.

OMG is plausible given Axl already remade it once with bucket and it doesn't exist on a GNR record...I could see a Slash/Duff re-record of that.

But overall I don't buy this cos it seems to contradict slash's statements about the songs coming out as singles then hoping to head into the studio to begin something new.

With OMG i have never really thought we will see that with Slash and Duff in the band. There was a press release when it came out in 99. Didn't Axl say somthing like "Former members showed disinterest in it" or something like that.

Historically I would have agreed with you on that, but as Polluxlm pointed out they used Silkworms as their lead reunion single...silkworms. Next month we're going to hear Slash and Duff on The General, we already had Jackie Chan and i'm listening to perhaps now, Axl is playing Slither live nearly any night.....feels like all bets are off.

OMG may have had an offical release, but so did Shadow of Your Love twice as a B side back in the day, and look how they turned that into a major event for the band. Meanwhile OMG is not really even around anymore is it? Hard to come across the End of Days soundtrack on stuff like spotify....and it has great Axl vocals in an era where he now has vocal trouble...I could see it being made to be a touch more classic rock duff/Slash then finding it's way on a future release. Hope so anyway, Axl's vocal is fire as the young kids say.

But overall I'm just not sold on this rumour. I want to believe it though as it would make a lot of sense to create some type of CD set for these 5 songs that Slash/Duff redid or whatever the number is. But who knows they like to keep us guessing!

the thing about hoarding the general is that it will hold its value. everyones all "lol horders its worthless now".. the fact is the buckethead and/or bumblefoot versions that were recorded a decade plus ago might sound completely different to what we get, and to the right people will still be valuable.

They become a curiosity though.

I mean it's interesting to listen to the original Silkworms, then the Bumblefoot version then the studio. Just like it's fun to hear the 3 or 4 other old versions of Shadow of Your Love or whatever. But in the end of the day no one really cares other than real hardcores like us, and even most of us only care as a mild novelty in between listening to the commercial stuff. Not going to be commanding huge sums of money.

It's funny to think guys hoarded perhaps like it was some rare thing, and now it's all over everything on the net. Will happen to the General in a couple of weeks. And who knows what next? I would have liked to see this happen 15 years ago but it's delicious now.

But i also think the social media technology was just something we weren’t prepared for…and anyone born after FB, Twitter etc thinks this is just how it always was…

It's interesting to try and find comparisons.

Like my grandfather lived to 101 and must have seen some amazing technological stuff. I think about it sometimes - like the car taking off etc...it's sort of insane. But in a way I feel we have had more of a social or cultural shift recently.

I guess the 1960s generation was a huge shift too...but they seem to have been actively pushing it...whereas I don't know anyone who likes whatever it is that's happening now lol.

It's a good point about social media too. I feel the net was a lot more fun in 1995-2003 era when like anything you were interested in had it's own site run by people who were fanboys for that thing. the tech sucked compared to now in terms of streaming and speeds and stuff. But everything now is corporate and false and there's that nasty kind of undercurrent on everything too.

But even wider it's a bit like social media has broken society kinda. Everyone is narcissistic and so on. I'm not even sure what the problem is.

I feel like i'm always asked to choose between equally important values for me in race to the bottom. Like I feel we should have freedoms but I also feel we should have civic responsibility to one another. Covid seemed to put those things in opposition to each other. It's kinda like asking me if my wife should have a vagina or boobs. How about both? lol.

Isn't that an odd order to list it?

Axl
Brain
Duff
Slash
Fortus
Dizzy.

Why is Brain listed so high? Why is Duff before Slash? It's not alphabetic, and I doubt a random order would find Brain so high up. Normally you would just go Axl, Slash, Duff...and so forth.

Could this indicate a writing credit or some other importance?

It's weird huh.

Maybe it's like Axl first cos it's obviously his song.

Brain next cos his recording is the next oldest dating from around 2000. Axl's way of being kind.

Duff next to remind Slash that he isn't the band's number 2 (even though we all know he is lol).

Then slash ahead of Fortus because he's fucking Slash and the world wants to read his name sooner.

Fortus ahead of Dizzy because poor Dizzy is the virtual gimp. (love dizzy, i'm just saying, he's not fighting duff any time soon).

I think Atlas was the leak most in need of a slash riff/melody to enhance the song...ala Estranged.

But based on how his modification to perhaps and it's solo were low key, I'd expect only mild changes (hope I'm wrong).

Maybe Atlas/State of Grace in november.

Then the band consider the CD sessions closed and move on to the next album? I feel like these 5 or 6 songs are transitional from what slash said.

Please don't fuck with this site's layout. It's my anchor. It's pretty much the only way I know we're in the same universe as we once were. Like come on...this is not the real future of the 1990s....it has it charms for sure....but i can't take it serious as the evolution of that era.

Relax it was a joke…

Just curious tho…what is your take on what the future should have looked like?

I've been trying to find a good example to explain what I mean but it's more of a feeling. Something about this reality feels wrong as if we are living in the alternative 1985 timeline from back to the future where Biff is super wealthy 16

There's events that are hard to reconcile with back then - eg Trump getting elected (love or hate him), now they seem to be saying UFOs are real, and of course the pandemic happening etc, it's like anything that can happen now does. Like I saw a meme about a sink hole in china the other day revealing an ancient forest semi-underground (have not fact checked it).. ..and I ask myself...would it be surprising if they find dinos? These days not so much.Seems crazy shit is just normal now. But it's not even so much specific things like that.

Perhaps it's the rate of change? I just think back to say 1995 and this world does not "flow" on naturally from that. Like in the way people think, the way people act, things happen now that would have been unthinkable back then. Some of it is the tech we have, but some of it is fundamental value changes or something but it's not the evolution I would have expected from things or something.

Even stuff like politics, like there is still this war between "left" and "right" but I don't feel either sides values have anything to do with what left and right used to mean back in the day.

I'm aware this sounds insane, but I just feel like it's almost like what we are living in now is the alternative timeline after someone figured out  time travel or something like that. Things happen these days and I like some and loathe others but like the whole mood of everything seems like nothing anyone could have predicted in the past. Stuff we argue about these days even. It just wouldn't have even been a thing in the past. I dunno. Maybe I'm full of shit. big_smile

That's exciting as I was worried Perhaps/General may be it for this season.

I wonder if Atlas will be a stand alone or if it leaves hope for State of Grace! (yes i'm greedy for GNR)
