Candidly speaking, I am dispointed in many of the fans, who seem obssessed with sales #'s, marketing, and all the commercial aspects of an album, instead of focusing on the art. Like it or not, to me, the music is what matters. I for one, while loving all things GNR, am thrilled with the music, and the attempt to move forward in a new direction. It did not work on every song, but the artistic endeavor alone should be commmended in my book. But, it is disheartening to see so many fans so fickle, that their own opinion of a piece of art can be influenced so easily by commerical matters which really, in the big picture, are not what matters. An emotional connection is not determined by dollars, etc. So seeing fans, all of a sudden changing their opinions about the music, or jumping off a ship because of PERCEIVED sales issues, is disapointing. I love a good debate, and respect that music is subjective and different for everyone, but am appauled by so-called real fans being so easily swayed by the herd, and sales #'s. Many of Bucket and Izzy's albums, did not sell millions, but they are brilliant. Same goes for this--it is the work and music that ultimately matters.

UMG just renewed their contract with GNR, and CD exclusive was part of the deal, as were publishing rights with Duff and Slash.
If that's true, then Axl needs to send a million-dollar credit limit over to Azoff, and his favorite "escort" service in LA.
I'm starting to respect Axl just for the fact he's a fucking bandit.
He's a working bandit, working on something....bandit indeed.

It don't really matter, your all gonna find out for yourselves. I think the writing is on the wall--Axl moved on from this project--mentally, physically, and emotionally back in September when this was turned in. He is onto the next chapter, and is likely putting every bit of energy into this. Don't forget, this guy is ambitious--he is not going to go down not swinging the bat again--once one almost reachs the summit, every waking moment is going to be spent trying to get to the top. GNR almost made it there in 1990-91, they want to go down as the greatest, and they are still relatively young enough to do that.
To me, Chinese Democracy was a necessary step. Axl and co. learned much, much about new production techniques, what works, what doesn't. At the end of the day, this will teach the band valuable lessons which will make them better in the long run.

Good Vibrations isn't on Pet Sounds and no it's not!:haha:
You beat me to it. Pet Sounds is one helluva an album. I have it 180 gram vinyl!! Needless to say, it's a great listen. No Good Vibrations though--don't know where that came from..
Regarding CD, I don't give a flip about sales, I enjoy the album--I also like it for what it is, and don't change my mind because joe schmo said it ain't cool or whatever.

--Weiland was talking about 2004, not 2006.
--The 2006 tour was very successful--I am pretty sure it was ranked in the top 10 grossing world tours of 2006. The 2007 tour, although it had less dates, was even more successful.

Rob Deluca of Spread Eagle is in Sebastian Bach's new band, which toured with GNR last year--he seems to be bud's with Axl! I never was aware of them in 1990 when their debut came out. Probably going to download it on ITunes today.

Mikkamakka wrote:An edited and shortened CITR could do well. It's a simple Yeserdays-type songs, yet it's almost 6 minutes long. Boring.
I always saw hit potential in Street of Dreams/The blues, but Axl's singing on the finished version is awful, sounds like a bad demo. It would flop.
Edit CITR? Get the fuck outta here!
I say fuck it. If people can't accept this great piece of art they can go jerk off to Kanye, Hinder or whatever nonsense they got melting down their brains. This album will be remembered in 20 years, no doubt in my mind.
Exactly--fuck the mainstream, and those god damned phonies! Let them figure it out on their own! No need to censor anything to try to make it on the fucking bought and sold US charts! Selling out is the last thing GNR should do! Uzi fuckin suicide--GNR being the exact opposite of the mainstream sound is what it is all about, and a good thing in the long haul (will garner respect over time). They are real, did not sell out to anyone!
#109 Re: Guns N' Roses » Amazon rips Chinese Democracy » 892 weeks ago
Wow. Stores are even trying to distance themselves from CD. They know if the casual rock fan hates CD, it might lessen sales on the rest of the discography.
Axelle01 wrote:i checked it on amazon and be sure that its a bullshit ! there is not such comment to be found
You're in a different country. I would imagine what shows up in the US is slightly different than other countries.
Many casual rock fans hate this, without even hearing it. If the local DJ, or drunk wannabe hipster at the bar says it sucks, they just repeat it thoughtlessly because they think they sound hip, important, and like they know what they are talking about. I figured with the information age, would come increased intellectual and analytical independence; instead the opposite has happened, especially with the younger generation of teens. They seem fickle, and unable to determine on their own what is cool or not. I find it funny, that after one week, so many are so willing to say this is a failure--that tells me they are following the pack, and think that it is "hip" to dis this. Moreover, many determined six years ago, this was, in their minds, "bad". I have seen fickle GNR fans and DJ's who praise this as great, and say it's a 8 or 9 out of ten, but then change their tune after perceiving that their liking this album maybe "uncool". Pathetic. Art is not defined by sales, and capitalism. This art, which is great, is no different. The desire to be "cool" is the path of losers.

ACDC's single, Rock n' Roll Train, is as cliche as it gets--it worked for them this time commercially. A few years back, their just as cliche album did not have huge #'s. Wal-Mart's distribution chain helped them move product--imho, world wide. Still, sales are over-rated--many of the albums I cherish never caught on commercially, and likely never will.
