Thats exactly what I feel about Duff. He was in a bad way back then and didn't give a shit. He was a mess Slash on the other hand... I think he might have played up the loveable junky thing to some extene to help his image but was pretty fucked up too. He did however have ambitions that duff didn't at the time. If you look at Duffs comments from the 94-98 era they are all about trying to facilitate slash and Axl and kepp things the way they were so that guns would carry on. Slash on the other hand was more focused on his solo material than duff ever was. Slash viewed his as his main focus. Duff viewed his solo stuff as a side project to guns.
Slash had a definite plan. Duff was along for the ride.i dont care what they were using or abusing..the whole fuckign band was on something at one point or another...the fact is that Duff, Axl and Slash all were equal shareholders of GnR at the time they broke up and after slash left Duff was a half partner. to say he was along for the ride even though he was there for day one is a bit of a reach...Duff had just as much say as Axl in using the 5 O'Clock material for the next guns record and from what i recall of past interviews was that duff walked out on it before Axl, and Axl tried to get him to come back so they could all work on it...i think they all equally valued each others positions...and i'm sure i've also read that Duff became some sort of mediator between Axl and slash at one point...sounds like they kinda took turns...its all a bit fuzzy but the peices are slowly taking shape on this series of events about 10 years ago
Duff wasnt along for the ride...he helped fucking build the damn thing
Im not debating Duffs legal status as an equal shareholder nor am I debating his devotion to the band. I am simply pointing out that personality - wise, Duff was lless of a leader and did not shape the events surrounding the breakup to the same extent that Axl and Slash did. The breakup of GNR wasdown to Axl and Slash. There was conflict between them on creative grounds leading to the break
In the middle of this conflict was Duff, the mediator, trying to plug the holes in the ship. He simply wanted a return to the simpler carefree guns n roses and the band to carry on. However Axl had his set of plans for the band and Slash had another.
They were the 2 influential figures.
Had Slash said okay Axl we'll do it your way. You can write your own lyrics for the 5' oclock songs, Duff would have thats great now lets continue from here.
Had Axl said ok Slash I'll sing your Songs without any of my own input. Duff would have said thats great now lets go on from here.
AND had Axl left gnr and Slash kept the name and carried on without him Duff would have soon followed suit leaving Slash the sole original member.
WHY? Because Duff just wanted good 'ol GNR Axl Slash Duff and sum drummer to fill that particular space.
Therefore from a creative point of view : Along for the ride; Not a legal point of view.

I just want to shake Axl and pretty much tell him to stop feeling sorry for himself and stop acting like a big pussy. I just don't beleive all these things he hints about Slash and Duff. He blows up every issue to something bigger than it really is. Slash and Duff are willing to reconcile.. Everyone is at fault, but you seem to be holding the BIGGEST GRUDGE. You are 46, you are getting old, you need to at least make peace with your former brothers and stop living this bitter life.
Hes not feeling sorry for himself. He wouldn't even be talking about this shit if we hadn't been asking him to for years

I know James is gonna jump on this one either way but. Anybody else see the paralells between Axl, Slash and old GNR towards Brody, James and ROV.
So is gnrevolution NuGNR or VR?????
Kinda funny how we can subconciously emulate those we look up to.:ummm:

c'mon now you dont really beleive that do you? dont be silly
I actually do.I think Slash was trying to put himself in a kind Of Nikki Sixx situ where he wrote the music and was band leader and Axl was just another band member who happened to be the singer. I know he was close with Nikki back then.Maybe he say what he had and wanted that for himself. He wrote the snakepit album. Axl said earlier that he was to to shut up and sing slashs lyrics or get out.Seems like a Motley Crue situ down to a T. And yes I do believe Axl. Ashe says. He wouldn't be saying a word of this if he didn't have the evidence to back it up.
Slash on the other hand has never backed up a single one of his claims!!!!! (I know as of right now we haven't seen Axls evidence...but I think we will)

Excellent point Buzz. I don't think it's about who's lying it's just the person's point of view, much of it in hindsight and years of analyzing.
I disagree. I think they know how it happened but to further their careers and to save their happy go lucky public image they made a cover story. They know what really happened from their point of view and they know if it gets out their ruined! Slash more so than Duff who was just along for the ride at the time

madagas wrote:It was an ugly time and I personally think the band was WAY too far gone to make a good record. Just my opinion. To compare Floyd to the Gnr saga is a stretch. Izzy, the glue, was gone. and no, that isn't the same as Syd leaving Floyd after Piper......not close.
Of course it isn't close. Floyd replaced Barrett with someone who I feel is the best element of Pink Floyd, David Gilmour. I'll take his guitar playing and voice over anything else in that band's history. GN'R, on the other hand, wasn't able to replace Izzy...no offense to Gilby of course.
You just proved Axls point because that's your opinion. In your opinion the Gilmour lineup is better. David Bowie preferrs Barret's. Two different ppl with 2 different opinions both equally valid

I doubt this pisses him off as Hell actually had a chat with Axl.
I guarantee you it pisses him off. He tries to censor people from even knowing about this place and then what happens? GNR's official site links to our forum. The cat's out of the bag and once people over there realize how much censorship goes on, they'll abandon ship in huge numbers.
Maybe that was what Axl was trying to achieve. It's obvious from his chats esp. the one on CD.com that he doesn't believe in censorship. He did not censor a single one of his own coments. He was completely open and honest even where one would expect a person in his position to make theor excuses and shy away from any confrontation. RE his comment on duff on the old band not being in it together on kurt cobain to the guy insulting him at mygnrforum. This guy(Axl) is completely honest it would seem.
Shit the man was giving away inside info like the brian may solo, the meaning to catcher who sorry is about all that kind of stuff without a second thought! Quite the individual
