dave-gnfnr2k (welcome aboard by the way) you're comment about GNR being the biggest band in the world during grunge's peak is spot on.  I'm so sick of everyone blaming grunge on the death of metal, hard rock (whatever you want to call it).  Sure grunge was a new and relevant flavor but it was the bands of the time that killed themselves.  They were either so fucked up on drugs that they became lazy and released crap or they just simply didn't release anything at all for years at a time.  THIS is what killed these bands and left some very good grunge acts like Mother Love Bone, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden and Nirvana in total control.  It was a one-two punch, not a sole knockout.

I was shocked when I read this thread, damn.  I hope all turns out well for Sean.  This sort of thing is happening more and more in the world of sports.  WTF?

#1173 Re: The Garden » The 10 Greatest RBs of all time elimination- Round 3 » 917 weeks ago

I don't necessarily buy into the "big game" theory, look at Dan Marino...he proves that to be a poor representation of a total career.  However, in my opinion Thomas repeated these mistakes far too many times to be ON THIS LIST.  That is my point, not that he sucked nor that the Bills did not acheive some great things but this is the 10 Greatest RBs of all time...right?  Well, he's not in that top ten in my book.  He obviously did far more good than he did bad.  The argument that his fumbles did not lose any of the big games may be true but I watched those superbowls.  The fumbles (in at least one or two of the big games) DID change the momentum.  Is it fair to him? No.  However he and Kelly were THE staples of that team, the leaders.  If the leader makes some big mistakes repeatedly it does damage the morale.

Kevin DuBrow/Quiet Riot definitely were key to getting metal in the 80's metal a bands a door to walk through.  I hadn't really listened to them in forever either but just a while back I picked up a couple of albums (cheap) they did in the 90's just to see what it sounded like.  One was called Terrified and the other album was Down to the Bone.  Surprisingly both were very good.  The guitarist (Carlos Cavazo)is very Eddie Van Halen sounding and the band is tight as a whole.  It's worth mentioning that the great Randy Rhoads was the cofounder (along with Kelly Garni) of Quiet Riot.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - Beauty pageant organizers were investigating Sunday who doused a contestant's evening gowns with pepper spray and spiked her makeup, causing her to break out in hives.

Beauty queen Ingrid Marie Rivera beat 29 rivals to become the island's 2008 Miss Universe contestant, despite applying makeup and wearing evening gowns that had been coated with pepper spray, pageant spokesman Harold Rosario said.

Rivera was composed while appearing before cameras and judges throughout the competition. But once backstage, she had to strip off her clothes and apply ice bags to her face and body, which swelled and broke out in hives twice.

"We thought at first it was an allergic reaction, or maybe nerves," Rosario said. "But the second time, we knew it couldn't have been a coincidence."

Rivera's clothing and makeup later tested positive for pepper spray.

Someone also stole Rivera's bag containing her gowns, makeup and credit cards. And a bomb threat forced pageant officials to postpone the last day of competition on Thursday, said Magali Febles, director of the Miss Puerto Rico Universe pageant.

Pageant organizers said the hoped to catch and expose whoever was responsible for the pranks. They said, however, they were handling the investigation themselves and police are not involved.

Beauty competitions in the U.S. Caribbean territory '” which boasts five Miss Universe titles, second only to the U.S. '” are fierce, drawing boisterous audiences and accusations of rigged results.

But the pranks under investigation this year are a first, Rosario said.

Rivera, who won Miss World Caribbean in 2005, had been a target of controversy from the start of competition, as rivals complained she was too experienced and should be disqualified.

Local media touted her as the likely winner, stoking jealousy among contestants, Rosario said.

When Rivera won, rivals accused her of buying the crown, Puerto Rico's El Nuevo Dia newspaper reported.

A tearful Rivera recounted her ordeal at a news conference Sunday, acknowledging she had wavered about staying in the contest.

"At one point I said, 'Am I a masochist?'" she recalled, her voice breaking. "But I said, 'I am with God and this is my goal, regardless of the results.'"

I did, read my post from earlier today 16

Actually I did before the game...good call!  I have felt if it wasn't Pittsburgh who dethroned New England it would be a team with a less than stellar record.  With the problems in the D covering midrange passes and how "human" Brady looked with Moss covered I think the Pats' next five games should be really interesting.  New England...Miami is knocking!! 16

I can now see why some hate this team with a passion because of the arrogance. There was 3 minutes left, Pats leading, they have the ball, and all they have to do is run the clock out. What do they do? On 3rd and 2, Brady is in the shotgun! Are you fucking kidding me? This kind of shit might work in the regular season, but come playoff time, those types of decisions are going to be crucial mistakes that will cost them a game. I don't give a fuck who you are, on 3rd and 2, you run the ball. Period.

Agreed.  Yes they are a good team but shit like this is nothing more than "showboating" and also displays a lack of sound football judgement.  This mentality may be the thing to come back and cost them there perfect season.  Keep in mind that there was a very questionable touchdown giving to NE before the half.  Also one of NE's touchdowns came from a returned interception and Brady was nearly picked off in the endzone on the drive that put the Pat's ahead in the fourth quarter.  In other words, New England literally squeaked out a win over a less than stellar opponent.  They don't have the room to start being arrogant and/or more importantly...stupid.

I'm watching it but can't believe it.  We are in the FOURTH quarter of the NE and Phi game and Philadelphia are winning 28-24!!  I know the game isn't over but this is a real game!!  No matter the outcome the Pats are showing some serious weaknesses in the middle.  Feeley has like 300 yds and 3 tds against the Pats defense, that shows problems for the Pats.  I don't dislike the Pats I just get sick of the Brady being overrated crap.  He is NOT at the same level as Peyton Manning, sorry but he isn't...period.  Brady is a very good QB with a stacked deck, clear and simple.  I'm not usually an Eagles fan but tonight I'm pulling for them big time!

Bears came back today and won in OT but they would need to run the table the rest of the season and that will be tough to do.  Good game however.  Gotta go, holding out for the Eagles to stop this drive the Pats are making and keep the lead or at least have an answer to it.  Who would have believed this would be a game!?

The Pats will cover that spread easily. The score will probably be something like 50-6.

I would say this is a fairly close estimate to the final score.  The Pats are just insane this year.

The one I'm looking for today will be the most anticipated game since the Pats/Colts game (which held up to the hype), the Packers and the Cowboys.  I really hope Green Bay destroys these guys.  No offense to anyone here but I just simply detest the Cowboys and have for a very long time.  My two favorite NFL teams are Kansas City (yeah...I know sad) and whoever is playing Dallas.  Hopefully Favre will just give me another reason to cheer his comeback today.

Damn, I was just looking at injury updates and the Packers to a hit against their win over Detroit on Thanksgiving.

Injuries Green Bay suffered on Thanksgiving:

Receiver Donald Driver, defensive backs Charles Woodson and Aaron Rouse, right tackle Mark Tauscher and defensive linemen Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila, Ryan Pickett and Colin Cole.

This sucks.  Hopefully "golden boy" Romo will get a healthy helping of defense shoved in his face and throw three or four interceptions.

Scalpers are a huge problem.  In '96 I went to see the Kiss reunion tour, partly because I wanted to see their show and partly because Alice in Chains were opening for them.  The concerts were selling out in less than an hour, Detroit stadium sold out in 43 minutes.  Tickets were pricey.  A decent spot was 150.00.  I had a nosebleed that I paid 60.00 for by being lucky enough to get a ticket within the first hour (I went to the Louisville show) but there were people next to me who had paid close to 200.00 for the same tickets via a scalper.  Pathetic.  There really needs to be much more attention focused on this problem.  I would love to see Led Zep if they come around but like James said I'd probably have to have a grand to get a ticket.  They will set records selling out venues and you can guarantee scalpers will be sucking up as many tickets as possible.

As far as the Spice Girls the only reason I would even consider going is Posh.  I think she is absolutely crazy hot!

What a train wreck.  A total lack of disrespect for himself, former bandmates and the fans.  Sad to see this shit happen.
