Nothing is the reggae sounding song, right?

Because of the lyrical focus of “Oklahoma”? For me that is the strongest attraction for the song: To understand where his head was at when literally everything — his band and relationship — were in crisis.
What did he decide about his own identity and autonomy?
What did he decide about the risk and reward of trusting others?
This song could basically be an important chapter of his autobiography.
Also he chose one of the main political/world events of the 1990s as the title of the song. That has to have some sort of significance. Thinking about that kind of got me kind of sad, basically Axl and Slash just needed time away from one another after Illusions tour and just either a therapist or some intermediary who could just help them bridge whatever personal issues they had. A lot of the CD stuff that we are hearing now sounds like, I wouldn't say classic GNR but stuff that wouldn't be out of place if they hadn't broken up in 1996.

What the heck is going on here? Oh well, I can't complain.
It's either A) they are trying make up for the lackluster ticket sales or B) it's ramping up for something else...like an album.
But it is interesting that is coming now on top of the video and announcement of The General.

Would love for a leak of the demo of “The General” to occur, ideally out of someplace that is in the news. Maui and Ukraine come to mind. Would make for an awesome fundraiser (Some anonymous benefactor saying “Send $__ to the Red Cross and a second song will leak.”).
This would be a really good promotional thing if GNR gave away proceeds from single sales or portions of a concert or basically money to fundraise for Maui (it's easier and less political than Ukraine and Slash has "history" with Maui).
I think the song has some good melodies yet I don't find it easy to sing along to or recall in my head. Which you would expect for that kind of piano based tune (or perhaps it was because I was watching a Beatles cover band earlier playing 'Hey Jude' and drawing a parallel). Maybe I need a few more spins.
It grows on you. I totally missed some interesting piano stuff in the middle that got buried underneath the guitar work, speaking of the piano.
It’s no.3 on main UK itunes chart at the minute, which is pretty impressive.
Damn. That is impressive. They really should have went with this one instead of Absurd.

I still have some General demo on my phone that I listened to. It's just really weird. It wasn't really a song to me. But monkey's point, that it was definitely "arty" rings true. I probably won't listen to it again until the single drops.

The chorus pretty much kills it.
The song begs for a hook that never comes.
I'm glad it's doing as good as it is. That video is trending on YouTube.
We need these songs to at least get in the middle of top 20-40 charts...whether radio or simply social media trending patterns...which hopefully leads to more ticket sales.
If they see genuine benefits to these releases, we'll get more.
They're tempting me to go to one more show. As you guys know, I've been boycotting tickets/merch since 2017until they start releasing new material.
That point is here.
I hope there's no more fuck ups on the rollout of songs.
Let us enjoy this with incompetence on the back burner.
I'm going to be optimistic here as say this may chart better w/modern audiences or younger ones than we think. Yeah, the chorus pretty much needed him to put in work. I still have no idea what is said and that's from listening to the demo and finished product. But we are all hardcores who pick this stuf apart.
I think it's catchy enough with it's flaws to make a dent with those millenials and or/people who don't know or care about the CD saga.
I'm gonna give them a general break on the incompetence. It's amazing what rolling out an actual video and potentially releasing an unheard song will do.

Also, I don't hate that merch, it's kind of cute and goes with the theme of the Perhaps artwork. Its not like random toy trucks that just say GN'R on them.
Uh, I don't mind the blue triangle shirt as you said it goes with the theme. But the Perhaps washed hoodie for $70 is awful and I had a good laugh at it.

I think your expecting too much. My personal theory is maybe 2 more songs. Maybe. And then catch ya on the flip side. End of the ride.
There's too much material for them to just waste it on a slow drip and not take advantage of it. Lofton just mentioned Oh My God. I totally forgot about that. And for most of the world, that song does not exist. So that's another new song they can release. It's crazy how maybe half of the material has it's genesis in the 90s.

This is like the most biploar band ever. I could bash them for 4-5 different things. And then they do these things that they shouldn't be doing if they are on cruise control (like playing long deep cuts and playing close to 2.5 hours -3 concerts). And you get a video today and an epic song that has been talked about for years.
This is just a really long winded way of saying it's a good day to be a GNR fan.

Maybe they’re finally getting their shit together? We can only hope. Still have no idea what the end game is here, especially after The General. That will feel like Christmas. An actual song we haven’t heard before? Is that possible?
They are finally getting their shit together. End game is probably another (maybe last ) album. They have enough material at this point . And there's no reason to not release an album.
