I want to hear what 1994 Slash would have done for an outro on this too.
Like think of the guitars on UYI and Snakepit 1 - how he never used to miss an opportunity to push himself and frankly kinda show off a bit almost like trying to establish himself as a guitar-god. I want that slash on this material.
Right as the song ends it's like he's hit the sweet spot and ripping into those runs...then it just stops...I feel the early 90s band if they were friends (IF, if if!!!!) would have been it running a bit longer and jammed that out.
Yeah...it's all a bottomless pit of missed opportunity.
Take it the other direction...Finck and/or Bucket trying to take the initiative.
Can't happen because it wasn't an actual band. They were rarely together, the different cliques cane up with songs on a whim while eating Chinese food or digging through Ben Hur samples, no one wants to go to the studio that smells like dog shit, list goes on.
We're lucky we got as many songs as we did. It's also not that surprising that songs left off the album all have issues. It was no longer a real project at that point.
As far as Slash goes, the real travesty isn't that he couldn't have worked on these specific songs....it's that the 93-94 GNR probably has their own Achtung Baby in 96-97 in some alternate timeline that took them to the next level.
Fans lost out on so much. Keith Richards was right....you never leave.

The more I listen, I love the lyrics, the awesome vocal melody and the spooky guitar.
If I want to find problems I would note that all of these new songs had a lot of repeats. They are all awesome song concepts that feel a touch unfinished somehow, and I think its that they all feel like they need a new 3rd verse or something of that nature.
General for instance feels like the build up part of one of Axl's epics. But it doesn't complete. Hell, Slash sounds like he's just getting warmed up to go nuts when it ends, I think it needed a huge guitar outro whole Axl kept up with those screamy bits in the background...
It's like NR if it didn't have the two slash solos or the outro, or breadown with out the outro, or locomotive if it was just 1 verse. Basically I think what is there is awesome but it feels incomplete. I wonder if Axl felt this too and that's why these songs were held over so many years - waiting for an idea that never came? Maybe not too though.
Anyways despite my bitching I do enjoy all this new music, and i'm so glad he's finally sharing things again.
Nail on head.
The song itself is ok for what it is...a good song he could've turned into a damn good song had he ever went back to it and finished it.
They sound unfinished because they are. They get one verse and a chorus and to stretch out the song (s) to full length, they repeat.
On the other hand...the main issues here are the horrid production/mixing issues. There's just no excusing it at this point. They are on too high of a level for their material to be this quality.
I wish he did full length, honest interviews on this saga. He obviously abandoned the project at some point and considering how much time has transpired, I'd like to know why. I'd also like to know why they don't take this material to Guthrie, O Brien, Padgham, fuck... anyone else.
It's why it's easy for the fan base to assume they don't give a shit because it's all so low effort.

Ok i've looked everywhere for the monsters and i cant find it on the internet at all, it's been scrubbed everywhere.
Someone hook me up please (DM ME)
The "official audio" video has 196k views so far.
Some sort of "influencer" may have spread it somewhere. That's a hefty jump for them so quickly.

Looks like the audiophiles aren't even gonna bother dissecting the track this time...

The song has a grand total of 33k views on YouTube.
It's now at 38k...

I just checked. The song has a grand total of 33k views on YouTube.
Faldor is right...the once in a blue moon drip feed instantly destroys any momentum they could potentially get even under the best circumstances. They fuck up every release in some capacity to the point the hardcore base is already sick of it when it finally gets released. It's one of the reasons why their view count is always so low. They can't even get hardcore fans to help prop up the stats like what happens with other major acts. It's already old news even though it's new news.
The General is an album deep cut for an album that doesn't exist. How is it supposed to make any waves?
We already have Monsters in final form so I’m not in a hurry to get that…..need Atlas
Already have Atlas in near final form and probably superior rough mix so I'm not in a hurry to get that... need Oklahoma.
i love the song tbh but look how crap the artwork is on my copy. Is this just a UK thing or is it the same for anyone else here?

Wow. That's on a new level. Every single person who bought that should ask for a refund just on principle. Something of that quality should not have made it out of the factory.
Does TB just hire second and third cousins to whip up this shit?
People jock AFD so much. Sure it’s great. I’m more of an illusions guy. I love the grandiose Queen on steroids. To me that’s when GNR found a defined sound as a band was UYI. To me people need to stop jerking AFD and be glad something is even happening
I haven't jerked off to AFD since around 95-96. Other than that 2-3 week period when the 91 Ritz vid was released, haven't jerked off to UYI since around 98.
Out of my all time favorite albums, they are the only ones I no longer listen to. Massive burn out in my youth.
99.9% of GNR I have listened to in the 21st century is CD, the various leaks, bootlegs, and the reunion drip feed.
This myth that you live in the past if you don't 100% approve of everything the GNR camp does was started by the GNR camp in the early 2000s. It was all projection. They were the ones who had to live in the past playing 10 AFD tracks a night while dangling a Chinese carrot to keep us hanging around for the next AFD disguised as Chinese Democracy tour.
When we were told stories of mind blowing, earth shattering big guns, my mind pictured Pink Floyd level epics. One of the descriptions at the time was something like Physical Graffiti meets The Wall mixed by Trent Reznor.
None of these songs are that. None. Zip. Zilch. Nada. I would actually rank mid tier Floyd songs ahead of this.
The fact these songs do not live up to the hype and are basically spit shined, unfinished songs doesn't mean I want to listen to AFD.
Yes it's better than nothing. Great description of the drip feed.
I was listening yesterday to the General in Spotify and i was almost slept and when TG finished next song was Don't Cry ... I realized then the BIG difference in terms of quality.
Yeah it's bad. You got a UYI comparison.
After giving The General the final few spins for awhile last night, listened to Dog and Butterfly. The contrast in quality is jarring. The General sounds terrible loud....and then this...
Smooth as a prom queen's thighs.
one of the biggest negatives is the "don't know what to tell you now" part - cringe-worthy.
After more listens I'm starting to think this section was cannibalized from another song. It doesn't flow with anything in the track and feels out of place.

Yeah..why half ass it when you finally reach the point you're gonna release it?
The fact Axl and Slash went to that studio on tour to listen to mixes makes it even more perplexing. I'd like to have been a fly on the wall in that room.
At least it's out. You cam actually go online and hear it after 20 years of wondering about it.
Now let's get the next song on tap!

Compare the latest Stones album to Sticky Fingers or Exile On Main Street? Same shit for Guns. These guys will never recapture the past….The Who?
These type of rock bands don’t get better with age.
Most of this board is 100% unrealistic.
Even my boy James, give me some numbers on Soundgarden’s last record. You just can’t recapture that ‘it’ factor
It is what it is….you guys are arguing about a few songs that were written 20 years ago!
I wasn't referring to the quality of the actual material. Obviously none of these ancient bands are going to be as good as they were back in the day. That Stones album isn't Sticky Fingers...hell it's not even Steel Wheels.
The new Stones album does sound better than these leftovers...
Soundgarden...
Here's a couple that destroy these leftovers...in both song and mixing quality.
Would you rather have Adam Kasper and Joe Barresi handling leftovers...or Caram and Axl?
#119 Re: The Garden » The Wrestling thread » 81 weeks ago
I’m a pretty big wrestling fan but i actually know very little about the Von Erich’s. What did the note say? Why did it cause suicide?
They never released the contents of the suicide note.
Chris was the runt of the litter. He had really bad asthma as a kid, took that awful steroid, and it impacted his growth and caused brittle bones.
He attempted to wrestle but it simply wasn't feasible. Reduced to tagging in to wrestle Percy Pringle (Paul Bearer).
He couldn't deal with it and killed himself.
Here he is in action...

The General
Embarrassing.
The audiophile forums...if they give a shit... will have a field day with this.
