I do find it funny that Slash’s contributions are *exactly* how Ron contributed to CD. Add a little lick to the chord progression to blues it up a little and take the solo.

I think in places Ron was trying to give it a bit more of a 'sleazy' vibe like the older songs. I think I remember him saying it about the way he added the licks to the title track.

I guess there's not much else to do, I mean the perhaps demo was fairly complete, and I dount they want to fully restructure the songs, so all they can really do is rock them up a little bit with licks and phrases here and there.

My only issue is when you look at what Slash normally contributes to the softer ballad type songs - Estranged, November Rain, Breakdown, Don't Cry and Yesterdays - then this solo he added was extremely minimal.

I mean it's fit for purpose and has some cool parts and nothing wrong with it, but you'd think he'd want to do a mesmerising solo to announce to the world they are back, and maybe as a low key proof that he never should have been gone hahaha...

But I guess he doesn't share these insecurities being the guitarist of his generation 21

I still think the song kicks ass overall though - very glad to have it - I like the "hey hey" "eyyyes" and stuff in classic Axl voice...it's so Axl...nice to have him back on my radio.

The copyright claim thing is easier to have happen than people realise.

Once when I put a song out once I hired a third party distribution company that pushes your song out on all channels including youtube, they also automatically flag any detection of the song they didn't control/upload (i believe with bots) - you have to specifically whitelist sites for them to avoid/spare.

So rather than TB hunting for them and accidently hitting their own site in a frenzy, it's possible they just didn't think to manually record their own site as an exception to a program in the first place, probably because you'd think the offical channel wouldn't even be able to get a copyright strike against itself lol.

It came out in Australia midnight Friday morning, so assume you guys will get it at the turn of the clock too.

Loving Axl's songwriting on this one, I like the rocky slash/duff interpretation of the verses etc. Still not 100% on if this solo is better than the demo - and I miss a few of Axl's higher vocals like "save me" but hey it's his song. I assume these things will pass as this version becomes my mainstay on my playlists and I get used to it.

I'm just glad it's out. Nice to have some new GNR!

My guess is still the drip feed and that the promotion is due to GNR having engaged those new social managers.

Hope that it is something like an EP though.

I think Slash's quote was "We're just gonna put out like one or two songs, and another one or two songs, and I think that's gonna be pretty much all of them" - an I think he said that AFTER hardschool/Absurd.

So I would assume maybe we get perhaps now then Atlas in a few months/weeks, then if we're lucky there's still another batch with The General and State of Grace or Eye on You or whatever remains.

But it would be cool if this perhaps single was leading up to an EP of all 5 of them for xmas or something. I'd rather not wait another 2 years for the next 2.

Looking at how Shackler's Revenge was heavily rearranged from a couple of the tracks it could well be plausible. Real question is when do we hear it.

I remember watching state of grace on VHS randomly when a friend showed up with it in like 1998. I should revisit it, I remember it was good.

2005/6 would've been an incredibly awkward time for a reunion. I mean, on the one hand you'd have Axl on 2006 peak form and Slash with his post-VR technical skills. On the other there's the massive Sword of Damocles that is Chinese Democracy hanging over proceedings. The record company would've wanted it re-recorded with Slash and Duff. Axl would've wanted to honour Buckethead and Finck's contributions. The whole mess would probably have resulted in the album being delayed again.

I think it would be the best time.

Axl seems ok with the Slash/Duff rearrange of Better and Hardskool, and he also seems ok re-recording Absurd and Perhaps (aside from a few notes) over the originals. I know he was keen to protect finks and bucket's work later on but he seems to have moved on now the reunion angst is cleared.

I also think a Slash/Duff CD would have been a superior album. Slash composing his own parts for those songs would have been far above the way he plays variations on the bucket solos these days - especially in 2005 when he was 6 albums less burnt out in terms of unique solos and riffs. As we've seen live Slash's rocky spin on stuff like the title track suits the songs.

Not only that but the mythical CD album coming out with Slash/Axl reunited would have gone over much better with the public, and indeed with the label - so we probably wouldn't have seen the fights and whatever drama that caused Axl to go back into silent mode in 2008.

So we might have even got a proper release and tour out of it. With a proper reception for that material I would speculate Axl's whole mindset would have been different. And then the band could have moved on to the best of the slash solo and conspirators riffs for follow up albums that we might even have.

Thank god the band is finally moving on getting out those locker-leak type songs. It's crazy that Axl's whole professional life has been haunted  by these 5 unfinished tracks or whatever it amounts to.

#128 Re: Guns N' Roses » Perhaps (2023) to Drop » 97 weeks ago

I must say slash's new solo has grown on me.

I think it's one of those things where I was so fond of the old demo that it coloured my perception.

What can I say - perhaps I was wrong? 16 5

I also wanna say I really like this song. Sure in a way it's simple but there's something about Axl's lyrics that just resonates with me. Yet I see people unimpressed online and saying it's all B side.

I suppose they are right if you expect every song to be a SCOM mainstream hit, but to me all these Chinese songs like this and Oh My God and all the others...they are really artistically interesting. I deeply hope he continues on releasing them all.

It's not even a leak when you think about it.

A leak is when someone working in the studio steals a disk and uploads it to the net, or when unfinished tracks never intended to be shown to end consumers are given to a producer turn up in rough form 20 years on in a storage locker.

This is listening to a finished commercial track for money paid to the appropriate sources, sold in a place of business in the usual manner. Only issue is they happened to release it a week earlier than they currently planned.

That's not a leak, it's a product going into partial release before it's planned wider release date due to an oversight.

In 31 hours or so it probably won't even matter.

#130 Re: Guns N' Roses » Perhaps (2023) to Drop » 97 weeks ago

A big contributing factor for this reevaluation was a recent Rolling Stone article that talked about Perhaps being prematurely released on jukeboxes. Originally, the mod team saw this type of article as a violation of Rule 2, as it technically gave instructions as to how one could theoretically access the song before it had an official release

Stupidest shit I've read in a while. The jukeboxes are a legitimate mass market offical channel. Was it accidental? Sure. If they don't like it they can sue their label or manager or distribution agent or the jukebox company or whoever the fuck made the mistake. But lets not pretend it's any kind of underground darkweb cyber spy-shit crime going on here. People went into a bar, paid money, and got streamed a song that was on a paid service - all be it possibility due to an oversight of someone somewhere. Referring to this as "giving instructions" as if it's terrorism or something is retarded.
