They should just put out another Greatest Hits, or a live album from the 1985-1990 period.

I think that a total lack of Slash killed the albums chance of success.

I don't think so....I think the band needs money and is simply playing in the areas where they can make the most. They can easily make money in the big markets in the US...New York, Boston, LA, Chicago...attendance in the States would be similar to Canada. There wasn't any real difference in attendance between 2002 and 2006 in the US (AGAIN ABOUT 8500 a night). I see no reason why 2010 wouldn't be the same.
In 2002 and 2006 there was still some mystery.

Actually, I am starting to fear that people are more fans of the mystery of CD than the actual music. Perhaps the whole long-winding CD farce summoned fans that just got hung up in the myth of what the record would be. And now that it has come out and it is just 'a good record' they are disillusioned because what they were really fans of has gone. Too bad.
I think you hit the nail on the head.

What is a waste? His talent? Yeah but if that is what makes him happy then so be it.
The last 17 years. The refusal to reunite. For what? One album and a few lackluster tours?
