There will probably be a revised version with new artwork and new master, but a deluxe is most likely a no go."

Jimmy thanks him as well and poor Adler begs for the reunion."

Ok, so if Best Buy still has 1.3 million in stock, with no chance in hell of moving much more than 100K of this product, who in the world does Axl think is going to distribute this?  Moreover, there has to be restrictions in place regarding re-distribution if Best Buy has an exclusive.  What a cluster-fuck--the emperor truly has no clothes.  Really, I have no clue about his personal life, and could care less, but one wonders if those in his close circle are really giving him rational advice?  He is ruining his career, and his behavior strikes one as truly syd barrett style insane--not cool rock star insane.

Just had a PM on another music site stating the same thing.

Maybe, because the mix on the album in stores was not the one he approved.  Wasn't someone saying this is the "Best Buy" version a few days ago--well, maybe there is something to this.

The guy at Wal-Mart is wrong. They still only stock censored CD's. At least in my area.

Speaking of which, I walked through Wal-Mart today, and there was AC/DC shit EVERYWHERE. Even now.

Greatest marketing Campaign I have ever seen for an album.  Even in the clothes section the stuff is everywhere.  Hell, I bought two older AC/DC albums because of it.  "If you want blood you got it" and "High Voltage".....  $7 each.  They had some really cool t-shirts and hats too.  GNR and thier protion = FAIL.

One just wonders, if something happened during the month leading up to the release which led Best Buy to drastically cut back on their promotion--either internally with their sliding sales #'s, or due to something that GNR did, or failed to do?

its sad to see the fans slowly turn for the negative...i'm not giving up yet though...its still early

I love the album, but I also am a big fan of reality.  If people would not have expected 1 million the 1st week, they would not be disapointed.  I for one, though, really thought this was going to push 500K the first week, so I do not have much room to speak about overtly high expectations.  I will say this the press that this is going to receive the next 72 hours is going to be nearly 100% negative.  DJ's already are on the air calling this the bomb of the century, an unmitigated disaster, etc.  It's not going to be getting any better for the next week.  This is going to drive many who may have been considering a purchase away, and will destroy many from sharing the CD with others, as they will be embarrassed to be seen with this.  The wave of negativity is growing, and it's going to be tough to overcome.

All things considered though, fans should be happy.  The album is solid, the band progressed artistically, and the product is officially out.  They also should temper any expectations of the 2001-2007 line-up ever surfacing on stage together again.  Now that the cat is out of the bag, I believe, that concert tickets will be an even tougher sale than they were in 2002 or 2006/2007.

Well, this thing will be lucky to push an additional 25K next week.  Best Buy should be ashamed of their efforts--pathetic.  They may have decided to write this thing off the books--as they need as many write-offs as possible (just about every U.S. retailer does right now--we are on the verge of the 2nd Great Depression).  This also, combined with Aguilera's exclusive Target bomb, may make Azoff think twice about these exclusives.  He struck gold with the Eagles and ACDC (Wal Mart, 4000 of them, and the demographics match up), but struck out with CA and GNR.  GNR has many fans in rural areas of the US, and they cannot afford to drive three hours both ways to buy the album, and don't have high speed internet.  I still cannot believe, though, just how pathetic Best Buy rolled this out--they did virtually nothing to push this, and in fact, almost hid the thing from the first hour onwards.  Pathetic!

The material is there, and Axl should have released this thing in 2000 or 2001 as a solo record--where it would have pushed platinum status and would not have leaked, and would have been critically acclaimed.

Anyone who thinks they will see GNR live again, without the top-hatted one and Duff in the mix is out of there minds.  As far as GNR is concerned, it's reunion, permanent hibernation, or bankruptcy.

Ok, I'll take your word.  Seems to be on the high side to me.  Fuck sales #'s, at least they released it!

#138 Re: Guns N' Roses » Chinese Democracy UNDER 300,000 copies sold first week? » 893 weeks ago

Where is this 300K # confirmed?  I don't believe it's sold much more than 150,000 units.  That is my own guess, but that 300K number seems high.  Sales were dismal after last Sunday for this set.  The music is good, real good, but the whole roll out was horrendous; with that said, the album is very unique and was obviously the culmination of much hard work.  I hope people don't forget that great sales do not equate to great art, or that lackluster sales equate to bad art.

I am talking about the U.S.  I am warning people, be prepared for negative press this week, like this band has never seen before.  This is bad enough to erode the old mantra, any publicity is good publicity.  Be prepared, it looks like only the members of the forums buying their multiple copies of the cd made up the purchases in the U.S.  Even with the fudging upwards by Best Buy to save face, people are going to be shocked at the lack of interest.  All things considered, none of us should be.  Moreover, maybe this is the wake-up call that will shake the parasites out of the system and allow the band to get back to being friends and making good rock music again; in addition, this will let those on retainer get on to projects closer to their roots and true artistic desires.  Time to close the book on this nine year run.

--Azoff has to be in heaven, as there is no doubt, he now has the leverage needed to convince Axl the only way his genius will be respected is through a reunion.

--There is almost no way the current line-up can tour, as they would struggle to sell out theaters--even with Bucket back.

--Album is under performing world-wide due to a multitude of mis-steps, namely as many have mentioned the stupid myspace gimmick and in the U.S. there only being about 1000 Best Buy's (not to mention Universal and Best Buy's horrible promotion efforts).

--I am of the belief that UMG held back promoting this either to force a reunion (Iovine's statement last Monday was a joke of some sort, as there has been no evidence of any push of this album from UMG, other than mailing a few hundred singles to the radio station with no notes or anything), or that they know one is already at hand.  There is no other possible explanation that they only paid for the shiteous in-store promotion at Best Buy and did not push the songs at all to radio, or push for interviews, or gain exposure in one of thousands of other ways.

Again, if GNR are going to resurface in 2009 as a workable unit ever again, it will be with Slash, Axl, Duff, and Izzy together.  That is the only conceivable way after this flat rejection.
