Thought I would do a few conversions on the facts given above 
I don't have the exact date that Axl originally mentioned the album title as "Chinese Democracy", however given that Kurt Loder/Axl referenced the name on November 8th 1999 above I'm using this as "day one"....
Start Date : 11/08/1999
Today : 04/26/2008
Total : 3092 days = 74208 hours
I'd love to know how many of the ~75,000 hours that us fans have wasted online have seen Axl in the studio actually doing something

Another update on the album status from Rick Richards wife (Rick is Izzys guitarist 92-08)....
Hey,
Yeah, they're recording at Zircon Studios. Rick says it's great....very heavy rock. Forgot, yes, Duff is playing with them as well as Taz and JT.
As far as the Satellites tour....they normally play one or two nights out every month or so all year...so it's not really a "tour" per se.

but it adds something to why the recording process was delayed...
I bet the label are kicking themselves now if the album was indeed rejected back in the day. I guess they didnt see the music industry collapsing due to P2P, torrents etc.
Even if the album is twice as good as the rejected version they won't make half the sales.

I've just finished my "gnr phase". I listened to them heavily last month but the lack of new material bores me. I'm back in my "Replacements phase" now, GNR will swing around again within 3 months (unless a leak occurs prior)
I usually only listen to newGNR stuff like RIR3, CD leaks, OMG.... though I did rediscover the UYI albums not too long ago

Glad they acknowledged situation within a reasonable timeframe even if they cant really answer any questions we have
edit:- its worth noting i think that GN'R have pinpointed Del James' email. Might explain why Fortus replied with "No comment" for anything GNR related. Everything is analysed by us fans way too much
