#151 Re: The Sunset Strip » Most Recent Movie You've Seen » 82 weeks ago

I'll have to check that out...Fincher one of my all time favorites.

12 Angry Men (1997) - Great film. An all star cast .. including Gandolfini right before The Sopranos. Great chemistry. Should've swept the Golden Globes and other awards shows. This might be the best made for TV movie ever.

While it's a drama...it's really a comedy drama. I laughed every few minutes at their bitching/yelling.

Love how the story plays out...it's all about the jury...the criminal and anything else irrelevant.

I need to watch the original from the 1950s.

Both are on Tubi.

Room 237 -  Documentary on the making of The Shining that focuses on the hidden meanings and conspiracies...way too much time spent on the Indian stuff along with the Apollo conspiracy.

It just made me want to watch The Shining again.

now it feels a bit dated

A lot of 20th century film/TV is starting to look/feel dated due to the glossy, shiny look of HD/4k today. I can't stand how new movies look...they have an artificial feel to them.

I need to watch Taxi Driver again...never really liked it all that much. Haven't watched it in decades.

Manhatten
Annie Hall

Almost made my list... especially Manhattan. Might be his best film... although Broadway Danny Rose is right up there with it.

Also need to watch The Deer Hunter.

I think the 2002 line up was just not the group to do AFD and UYI hits, but they needed to do them because they were GNR.

The only reason they needed to do them is because Axl was incapable of moving on from 87-93 even though he claimed otherwise.

All that was required in a 2000s set list other than new material is the following....

Jungle
SCOM
PC
NR

Throw in KOHD and LALD as the live staples.

SIX songs...maybe 7 as you'd probably include YCBM.

That's all a casual crowd needs from 87-93 in a world where GNR is supposedly moving forward.

We got the exact opposite instead...a small handful of new songs while he was almost doing AFD in its entirety (10 songs).

Those 2001-2 set lists are even worse in hindsight.... telling us fans to get over the past while the set list is 95% old and he talks about the old band onstage.

Buckethead hated it. It's a miracle he didn't walk away in 2001.

Same story as Erin and Stephanie….he was a pretty sick dude then. It is what it is. He put the work in to try to get better and by most measures he is light years better

Yep...none of this is surprising. It's been his MO going back decades. As pointed out, it's not even new.. it's shit we heard about in our youth.

I don't think it's going to do much damage. It'll go away quickly whether settled or not. GNR just aren't big enough anymore for the whole world to care and make it some massive story that won't go away.

If GNR were going to get canceled for anything, it would've been over One In A Million, Used To Love Her, or one of the crazy Erin/Steph stories years ago.

All of a sudden I'm remembering an advert (Harley d?) with better but it got replaced for paradise city

Yep..an early sign that the possibility of a 2006 release had been shit canned.

The Better/Lars/Fernando fiasco was a sign that TB's reign would be amateur hour on a permanent basis.

I believe that the rumour about Fernando being the source of some of the leaks started from that interview he did with a Brazilian fan site in 2001, where he said that he was letting his friends listen to the songs:

Maybe dark or MSL could weigh in but it definitely goes deeper than this.

Unfortunately my memory on this ancient stuff isn't crystal clear but he was intertwined with this stuff in the early 2000s...maybe even with the Velvet Rope links that have apparently been lost to history.

Been watching some 70s movies this week... mainly the usual suspects.

I have to revise my top 10:

Apocalypse Now
Rocky
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The Godfather
Network
Black Christmas
Escape from Alcatraz
Foul Play
The Conversation
Dog Day Afternoon

TCM doesn't really deserve that high ranking if I'm honest...I have a soft spot for it. It's an amazing film almost ruined during the final act.

Marathon Man no longer on the list although it deserves to be.

There's a good song buried in the white noise.

They have leverage and if they want better management of Guns now is the time to move for it.

Slash had massive amounts of leverage day one. Hell...Axl made the first move. He was painted into a corner...there was nowhere left for GNR to go. They were on the verge of playing in clubs and theaters here.

He flushed that leverage.. probably because they all just wanted to cash in the reunion chips and to speed things along.

He should've demanded professional management in place before anything happens.

Dark. I heard this before also when he was leaking songs to friends in Brazil

Yep... Fernando is the nexus of the leaks.

I'm sure the weirdness around making music and the various Brazilian hangers-on grates on them, but again, nothing they weren't expecting with Axl I don't suppose.

Yeah...they all knew what they signed up for. Both Slash and Duff had made negative comments regarding Axl's yes men/sycophants going back to the late 90s.

They didn't care enough to do anything.

And it should not be hard for Axl to elevate Vanessa or Beta to replace Fernando and whatever he does.

That's just a game of musical chairs with incompetence.
