This thread is not intended to promote drugs, only hoping to stir up some discussion about GNR and how the music differs whilst under the influence of drugs smile

I mentioned earlier today in this thread that I intended to roll a few joints and listen to Use Your Illusion I & II in their entirety, for the first time in over a year (at least).

I guess Velvet Underground said it best with "Hes never early, hes always late, First thing you learn is you always gotta wait", translating to: my dealer didn't show hmm So my question to any GNR fans out there is how the music relates to you whilst under the influence of drugs?

If my dealer shows up tomorrow I have a 3 hour window open where I intend to roll a few joints, sit in the dark on my own and listen to UYI in full. If anyone has experiences of listening to GNR whilst under the influence I'd love to hear them. I've never listened to UYI when stoned, though thinking about the albums now I think they may be pretty cool, especially songs like Breakdown, Locomotive, ummm... My World 14

If this thread generates a few replies I may tell the tale of when I listened to Appetite and woke up to a £600 fine wink

As for www.gnrsucks.com, until that happens at either MYGNR or HTGTH, then it won't make a difference.

Sure it does. That site closing down in 06 got media attention and played a big role in the late 06 backlash and Axl finally speaking.

Don't assume that the "big boys" hold all the power.

That would be gnronline.it and a very clever marketing plan in my opinion. Closed the site down, that generated news and links through major sites and then re-opened a few months later. Google et al crawl the web, notice Rolling Stone etc linking to GNRonline.it and instantly assume that the site is relevant. Those "big" links have done nothing to hurt gnronline.it wink

I have to disagree with Ataris comments. MyGNR and HTGTH closing down wouldn't influence Axls decision to give a press release. Do you honestly think Axl will be bullied into giving a press release because a few geeky webmasters have closed there sites? I'm a geeky webmaster myself so no disrespect to eric and jarmo, but there sites closing down would have zero effect on the GNR camp. Fans would simply flock to new sites like cd.com, newgnr, evolution, gnrdaily etc........

Eric wont close his site, Google Ads generate income for his pocket y'know. Jarmo wont close his site because he has his foot in the door with both the band and label.

gnrsucks.com

To all visitors/ GN'R fans:

No... this site isn't going down just yet.

So let me tell you about this kid who is a GN'R fan since 1991. I know... Not an 1987 headbanger but 1991 is decent.
So he grew up listenning to GN'R and some other bands, but GN'R stuck like no band! He had CD's Vinyl, Cassetes, Interviews, Bootlegs, TV Specials, all the usual stuff for a GN'R die-hard.
After 8 years without a single GN'R show booked, or record (it was 2001) and now 20 years old, this kid went to Rock In Rio III in Brazil to witness the return of the best frontman of all time: W. Axl Rose. Just being in the middle of 250.000 people to witness the so hyped come back, this kid had the chance to experience a life changing concert, where the magic was clearly in the air. After waiting for 8 years for anything, this could mean only one thing. THEY WERE BACK! Finally!

No one could doubt that Axl had had his time to reinvent himself and GN'R and that the GN'R Machine was clearly starting up once again.

So basically, you know the story and all it's little details, and rare pictures, loads of rumors, etc..

Fast forward to 2008 and I can't understand why that kid, who was 20 years old back in Rock In Rio III is still waiting for THE album of his life. Chinese Democracy. The myth...

That kid is me. 27 going to 28 now. I could never imagine that 7 years after Rock in Rio III, 2 years after their last european tour, and some years after all the CD STARTS NOW(?) tours, every single GN'R fan is still waiting to hear the album that is supposed to redefine music and the one chance for Axl Rose to prove himself to the world without his original lineup.
I'm a huge GN'R fan (Old and New GN'R) and for the past months I'm not even that curious about anything anymore.. The hype came and went away during those past tours, and now, the only GN'R news coming in and being discussed are some roadies' stolen bike.

I find it sad, that for months now, there has been no interesting topics in any GN'R forum regarding the development of the album, news from the band or anything for that matter. It's sad that something you KNOW has great, great chances of being one of the best albums ever, is simply a myth. Yeah... I know it exists! But that's all WE know.

So I've decided to shut down gnrsucks.com until the album has at least a definitive release date. I tried and tried to make a kickass website, one of the best out there, for the past year, but everytime I tried to get things going, I just felt so down and kept asking myself: "Why am I going to make a great website, if there's nothing useful (besides information like lyrics, discography etc) to update it with?"

So, friends, this isn't a goodbye. It's just a "see you later" until there's something interesting to talk about.

Take care and come back then. Thank you for all the support for the last 10 years.

We'll be back "soon"

I don't blame lourenco one bit and can understand his reasons

Casino Royale included???

To be fair, Casino Royale was the better of-recent Bond movies but I can't see me watching it again, unless I catch it on TV one night and there's nothing else on. Brosnan had a great start as Bond too but after the first film it quickly went downhill hmm

A cool, very personal review smile I love taking a break from artists and then going back to them a few months/years later and rediscovering them. I've been recycling the Replacements, GNR, Elliott Smith etc for years now and everytime I return to one of the artists I discover new meanings to songs.

It's been over 12 months since i listened to the UYI albums (official releases, not the demos) so tonight I'm planning to roll up a few strong joints and listen to them in there entirety big_smile

Every Bond movie post-Goldeneye has been crap imo. I wish they would call it a day already and stop milking this cow.

[i]This year's Reading and Leeds festivals will be headlined by three American guitar bands.

Speaking to NME.COM, festival organiser Melvyn Benn gave a huge hint as to who the headliners might be.

'I can tell you that the headliners are American. All of them,' he explained.

...

Maybe...?

It could be, though it could be plenty of other bands too. I honestly don't see Axl announcing any more UK shows until a firm release date is in place. Didn't they festival organisers get into shit last time GNR played due to them breaking the curfew?

#1638 Re: The Sunset Strip » Bands/Artists that should have been bigger » 909 weeks ago

Haven't heard of half the bands in this thread so will have to check em out smile Ive thought both the below could have gone on to greater accomplishments had they not disbanded/died.

Whiskeytown
Elliott Smith

Here's one, kindof a heavyweight to start off with. I like writing about experiences I went thru, I've written (90% done) a novel about my youth of age 22. I should post it on a pdf file online.  Next I'll tell the tale of my night out with George, a cool guy I worked with.  [Tom's name below is fictional, so if he ever google's his name this story doesn't come up]......

Where I come from we call that "whitied", as in "PaSnow was totally fucked last night and whitied" 14 We've all been there, it happens to me everytime I mix alcohol and weed which is something I refuse to do nowadays hmm

The first time it happened to me I was in University, first year Halls of Residence (student accomodation). I'd smoked pot before plenty of times but for some reason this one particular night I was fucked. Looking back I think it might have been the first time I used a bong.

One particular buddy of mine who I was close to could see I was off my face. He'd seen me stoned plenty of times before but he says that this one particular night I was "white"... not a drop of colour in my face. Like any true friend he helps me stumble back to my own room where I head straight for the window feeling like I'm gonna throw up. Whilst I'm hanging out of my (fortunately) ground floor window my buddy says in my ear, identical to the accent found in the Resevoir Dogs movie, "Billy K's super sounds of the seventies just... keeps... on... truckin..."

I swear that as soon as my mate said the word "truckin" I felt like a truck had just smashed into the side of my face. I was completely gone, couldn't open my eyes although still aware of a female student in my room screaming that I was dying. This seemed to go on for hours, with me unable to speak or open my eyes until I eventually threw up from my window all over the nicely mowed lawn outside 14

I found out later that when my mate had said that line from Reservoir Dogs he'd accidentally let go of the window and it had crashed down on my head hmm I remember almost every detail from that night, and whenever I meet up with mates from Uni we always have a laugh about it now. At the time it was fucking scary but just a few hours earlier our dealer had been describing what it was like to "whitey" so even though I knew I was fucked I also kinda knew that I wasn't in serious danger.

You'd think an experience like that would have put me off weed for life but I still smoke it. Whenever I meet up with mates from Uni we smoke a shit load of weed, listen to the same music we did back then like Counting Crows, Ryan Adams etc. Of course I'm still telling them, in my stoned state, that Axl is finally going to release Chinese Democracy 16

I'm proud to say I dont own a cell phone smile Friends would text me with "what ya doing?" messages and it just got annoying so I threw it out.

I rarely watch TV. If I want to watch something I'll download it.

If I want to play a video game I'll just play a PC game, or download an emulator to play non-PC video games on my PC.

To be honest though I could easily give up the PC and internet too. Whilst I need my PC for work I could easily change jobs without feeling a void in my life.
