Skold vs. KMFDM's "Bloodsport," which just ended. Now, Duran Duran's "Red Carpet Massacre."

Thanks for posting that link. I dig it. 5

James, you should reserve your vitriol till after you actually hear the music sometimes. No offense, but you seem to sometimes take these wild emotional leaps from one post to the next. 19

As for Manson's lyrics, if one were to listen beyond the band's singles and their uses of the dreaded f-word, Manson's strongest abilities are in his role as a lyricist. He frequently uses clever double entendres and neologisms in both his songwriting and otherwise. Seek it out. I once wrote a philosophy thesis about the artistic associations within Manson's work. Aced that motherfucker.

Ax listed a lot of the good stuff already. I also enjoy listening to the Hellraiser scores and have been listening to Thomas Dolby's score for Ken Russell's Gothic a lot lately.

You guys both make great arguments. I know it's tough, because I absolutely love the "classic" Loomis character (and Donald Pleasence in general). I think a part of me just loves watching Alex DeLarge doing his own creepshow-style Loomis.

Despite a crippling recession and dwindling record sales, 2009 is looking to be a good year in music. Already released or being released very soon (for me):

30 Seconds to Mars - This Is War
Deathstars - Night Electric Night
Depeche Mode - Sounds of the Universe
Julien-K - Death to Analog
KMFDM - Blitz
Heaven & Hell - The Devil You Know
Marilyn Manson - The High End of Low
Morrissey - Years of Refusal
Prince - LOtUSFLOW3R
Revolting Cocks - Sex-O Olympic-O
Skold vs. KMFDM - S/T
U2 - No Line on the Horizon
Zeromancer - Sinners International

I find myself going more and more into my '90s listening habits lately. What're you guys enjoying/looking forward to?

That's a phenomenal piece, 'slinger. Well played.

I actually disagree. Pleasence's Loomis is his own to such an extent that this Loomis would have to be a departure to ever be accepted at all. Loomis wasn't necessarily a "hero" either. Pleasence's Loomis was arguably as mad as Myers and was unhealthily obsessed in a Captain Ahab sort of way in his pursuit. Let Zombie and McDowell create their own Loomis. Once again, I refer back to my prior argument that while the fanbase seemed to have the hardest time with Zombie's remake aspects of his Halloween while alternately praising his stab at more original storytelling (i.e. backstory), with talk of the sequel they seem to take any changes in the mythos as sacrilegious.

I'm a Pearl Jam fan, but "Heaven Beside You."
