I was gonna write a bunch of comments about this, but fuck it.  I'll sum up my thoughts with this:

Slash is cool. 9

Thanks for posting these!

If it's so fake, why would they bother addressing it and asking them to take it down. If it's not valid, why even address it? The only people giving them evem MORE attention is Harmonix.

It seems more and more this is damage control - not fake.

I'm also leaning toward this being damage control.  I did some searching for that youtube video and couldn't find it at all (other than through the links posted here).  So, it definitely wasn't widespread.  Yet, despite that, Harmonix took it off their site and are calling attention to it by denying it.  If it really was fake, why not just ignore it because not many people even knew about it anyway.

And if I understand Strat's post correctly, some Harmonix guys admitted the guy was an employee, yet the official word is that he's not?  That's sounds odd.  You can claim what he said was bullshit, but when you give conflicting answers about whether the guy works for you or not, my bullshit detector starts beeping.

And like I mentioned before, I've worked for games companies the past 4 or so years and have heard various "secrets" about projects that I'm not even involved with.  IF (big "if") this guy works for harmonix, it's 100% possible that he knows or has heard more than us.

But again, the actual content of what he said is not much different than what you could put together with a little research and guesswork.  So really, who knows? hmm

Ahahaha good point, Rex.  Guess it is better getting your car-stealing, hooker-killing fix from GTA rather than in real life. big_smile

Yeah.  That's what I was trying to say.

Don't know if there's any Rush fans around here, but the Rock Band game has been on our radar lately and this was pretty funny to watch.  Although Rock Band, Guitar Hero, etc are fun, I've always been sort of annoyed by this type of video game because it's churning out a breed of gamers who now think they're rock stars because they can push buttons in-sync to colored icons.  When the original artists can't even play their own song, I think it pretty much proves that being good at rhythm games and being a real musician are not the same thing.

The Canadian rock power trio RUSH appeared on The Colbert Report last Wednesday, performing an extended version of their hit 'Tom Sawyer' that reached into the beginning Thursday's show. Before they took the stage, Alex, Geddy, and Neil accepted our challenge to perform 'Tom Sawyer' as part of the video game Rock Band. Check it out!

Geddy obviously has no problem with the vocals, but Neil is struggling and Alex looks like he's gonna cry. lol

Somebody just emailed me this webpage.  Its a christian video game site.  It has reviews of christian games and "secular, non christian games".  Thought you guys might get a kick out of this.

5.6.2008: (Note: I have not played this game since it is rated "M" and isn't allowed on the Fellowship U campus, so I am basing this mini-review on Secular media reports.) Grand Theft Auto IV is a game designed to brain-wash players into the Atheist worldview. In it you play Nick, an immigrant recently arrived to Liberty City (a copy of New York City) who is tasked with stealing cars and murdering prostitutes. Nick came from a former Communist country where he was brought up in Godlessness and so he sees no problem stealing and murdering. The game touts its ability to let you "go anywhere and do anything you want", the central philosophy of Atheism. It also teaches how to escape from police, instilling in the player the main motivation behind Atheism: avoidance of authority. The underlying game engine is called "RAGE", which is apt since the game is fueled by anger at God. It also uses something called "Euphoria" which treats humans as "rag dolls" who act only in accordance to physics, which is what Atheistic Materialism teaches. The game series (as the title notes, this is the fourth game) has already resulted in murders in real life. This game has no redeemable qualities. Needless to say, all Christians should avoid this game and pray for the people who made it and their victims (murder victims and gamers of all ages who have played it and have been spiritually scarred). ZERO CROSSES

Hahahaha!  That is some funny shit!

I was looking through that site, and it's gotta be satire.  Nobody could be saying that stuff seriously, right?  I'm just gonna believe that it's all satire, because if that's all serious, it's scary.

and btw, I got the 100% completion acheivement the other day.  I had a lot of time to run around killing pigeons when I was off sick from work. tongue

Yeah, I agree. I didn't even mean to get off subject. But there's so many things wrong with this whole "rumor" that it's hard to know where to start disproving it.

i still wanna know how they are going to release a cd in 3 parts 16

First they'll release a clear plastic jewel case.

Second, they release a booklet and CD cover to put in said jewel case.

Third step, quite some time later, they release a CD with 19 songs on it.

That's my guess. big_smile

That or maybe we'll get the first 1/3 of 19 tracks, then the second 1/3 etc.  It could be marketing genius!  Do-it-yourself album.  You could mix and match parts from different songs - it'd be like lego GNR.

All the kids can get together and play "Chinese Democracy," building songs from the blocks.  I bet everyone is gonna fight over who gets to be Axl though....

#167 Re: Guns N' Roses » GNR, Rock Band, the VMAs and 4 albums » 884 weeks ago

Not to veer this too far off the subject, but it seems like you Aussies get pretty screwed when it comes to game releases.  That nuts that you guys haven't even got Rockband 1 yet, while they're talking about releasing a version of Rockband 2 in Japan.  I think harmonix should take a second and think about how many Japanese will have enough space for the gear.  Most people here live in apartments with very minimal space.  I have friends here who said they'd never even think about getting an Xbox "because it's too big."

And sorta back on the video subject:

That guy being an art director and yet seeming to not know much isn't that odd to me.  The art director does just that and directs the art - doesn't mean he's gonna know exactly what's going on with marketing and everything else.

Yet vice versa, in regards to "he wouldn't know all that stuff", I'd also disagree.  People talk, you hear things.  My current company is terribly secretive between project teams, but I've heard stuff and known stuff even about other projects before it was announced.  Just because there's lots of geeks in game companies doesn't mean we don't socialize, go drinking together, and talk about stuff that going on.  We're sorta social, demented and sad, but social. big_smile

Anyway, if this is a hoax, somebody needs to take these two guys out and give them a swift kick in the nuts - hard!  But if he was just acting, the red-head is gonna give Heath Ledger a run for his money at the Oscars this year.

But, just to be sure, paying for dinner should always mean sex, right? big_smile

My friend who manages a movie theater back home screened it last night and said it's awesome.

I hate being in Japan when movies like this are released.  We don't get it until mid-August. sad

Is it possible that the guys at the video game sites are lying and haven't heard anything new?  Or maybe they were given a track (Better, TWAT, something like that), and told it was Shackler's Revenge.  It's probably set up as a smokescreen to prevent the actual song from leaking before the game is released.

Possible, but I'd say unlikely.  With the game due to be released in September, they're gonna have to have a pretty solid build of it now and most likely already have QA play testers working on it.  This late in the development, it'd be a major pain in the ass to have a temporary title in there.  That would mean that when they got the real name of the song, not only would it have to be changed in-game, but also on any printed material as well (not sure whether the game manual includes set lists or not?).  That's not something a game developer would normally want to do.

And as far as it leaking, I have my doubts that anything will slip out of Harmonix.  That guy getting fucked over by unethical journalist aside, game developers are usually very used to and good at keeping things under wraps until the right time.  Also, since games are developed on computers, by nature game companies are usually more knowledgeable and tight when it comes to data security.  I very much doubt someone could just slap it on a USB stick and walk out with the song.
