Holy shit. Ron's doing the tapping and singing at the same time? I'd never clocked that before. The man is some sort of guitar sorcerer.
I actually kinda like the "no-fretless" version of the solo he improvs here.

In my opinion Robin was never able to play many of slash's solo's correctly. For a while I thought he was choosing to alter them, which may have been the case some of the time, but there's places where it really seemed he just didn't have the chops. Or maybe it's because his natural style is too different. In any event, he's a great player who plays some cool stuff on CD and in NIN - but he could not do the AFD songs justice to my ears.
Also, for reasons i'm not sure of Axl sang without the rasp for the bulk of that period....and the rasp is also rather critical to the traditional AFD sound.
Struggling may be a harsh word for it, but there's no question to me that the 87 band and the 2010 band are both superior to 1999.
I agree; Robin is not particularity suitable to the more Blues type stuff
Yes he is.

That Maria girl has a good voice... when she uses it. I just don't like the gutteral screaming.
I like the idea of VR having a female singer. The name Velvet Revolver would take on a totally new meaning
She is clearly the best thing about that band. Poach her, Slash!

I've always wanted to hear this - it's a glimpse into the direction Axl was going in 1999, it's a chance to hear a studio version of the band with Robin front-and-centre... and it's not "spoiling" unreleased songs from the Chinese Democracy sessions. What's not to like?
#1736 Re: Guns N' Roses » Slash eyed Rose for solo album » 768 weeks ago
But now with myles slash is out there doing Civil War, Jungle and a full on best of style show that makes me think he's no longer waiting around for Axl to forgive him or whatever. Although, maybe it's just scott couldnt hit those notes and myles can?
I think it has everything to do with the fact that Myles has the vocal range to sing those songs. You can bet that Paradise City and Nightrain would've been in the Velvet Revolver set if Scott could've sung them.
More interesting is the fact that Slash is gradually serving up the songs that he's traditionally left to Axl. Stuff like Sweet Child O'Mine and Jungle, which he's never played in Camp Freddy sets, even when there were vocalists there who were capable of singing them.
I think that's more to do with the fact that he's there to perform a Greatest Hits set, though; it's the Slash Nostalgia Tour, whereas with VR they were keen to promote the band as a new entity, pushing their own material over the old GN'R/STP stuff.

It's odd that Axl hasn't done an AFD remaster, actually; one of those "remasters with a couple of extra b-sides/demos" would be an easy cash-grab. Might be that he just doesn't want Slash and co to benefit.
The 25th anniversary is coming up in 2012, so that would be an obvious time to release a remastered version of the album. Stick, oh I dunno, Shadow of Your Love and a few of the (remastered) demos on there, pop the original artwork on the cover and get Del to whip up some liner notes... it'd be a money-spinner for minimal effort.

Yeah, he is over-subscribed - but, y'know, he could jack in his solo project and just do LP and VR. Someone like him fronting the band would be big news and would generate fucktons of press interest, in a way that Myles fronting VR wouldn't.
dont underestimate myles AB III is about to go through the roof
Good for him. I still don't rate his work with Slash.

I don't deny that Axl pointing out that the AFD drums sound a bit dated drew my attention to it. But he does have a point.
Mind you, I suspect that if the album was properly remastered it would gain a hell of a lot of punch. I doubt it'll ever happen, simply because of the tortuous internal politics of GN'R. In a right and just world, we'd have the Ritz show on DVD, a properly remastered AFD and Axl touring the follow-up to Chinese Democracy while Velvet Revolver hit the road with Chester Bennington.
