#171 Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Axls Statement on Buckethead 2004 » 596 weeks ago

Its almost exactly 10 years to the day since Buckethead officially bailed out on GNR and thankfully allowed GNR to take their recording that "one extra step further."
Well its been 10 long years since that press release, and as some folks might say, the truth comes out in the wash.
How do you think it resonates now?
March 30, 2004
Guns N' Roses will not be performing as scheduled at Rock In Rio - Lisbon.
The band has been put in an untenable position by guitarist Buckethead and his untimely departure. During his tenure with the band Buckethead has been inconsistent and erratic in both his behavior and commitment - despite being under contract - creating uncertainty and confusion and making it virtually impossible to move forward with recording, rehearsals and live plans with confidence. His transient lifestyle has made it impossible for even his closest friends to have nearly any form of communication with him whatsoever. Last time I talked to Bucket, he called to tell me he had bought a bootleg DVD off EBay and how proud he was to be in Guns and how impressed he was with everyone's performance. Then, in February we got word from Brain that Bucket had called him and said he was back in Guns!? Apparently, according to Bucket he had been "Gone" but had turned himself around and was really excited to do Rio-Lisbon and a European tour. Somewhere in the following month things changed once again. According to those who have actually spoken with Buckethead it appears his plans were to secure a recording contract with Sanctuary Records which I encouraged my management to make available to him, quit GN'R and to use his involvement in the upcoming Guns release to immediately promote his individual efforts...Nice guy!
There is not a member of this camp that is not hurt, upset and ultimately disappointed by this event, and more to the point - if not this individual, certainly this individual's choices. Regardless of anyone's opinions of me and what I may or may not deserve, clearly the fans, individuals in this band, management, crew and our support group do not deserve this type of treatment. We as a whole, definitely feel that we afforded Bucket every accommodation perhaps so much so that it may be that we or more precisely, I may have done Guns a disservice and unintentionally allowed Guns to be put in this position.
On behalf of Guns N' Roses and myself I apologize to the fans who planned to see us at Rock In Rio - Lisbon. The festival and its tradition mean a lot to me personally and I sincerely do not enjoy being robbed by one of our own of the opportunity to be the first artist to play it for the third time. I would also like to express my gratitude to those who chose to embrace Buckethead's role in Guns and support our new line up. We greatly appreciate Bucket's contributions and remain open to "discussions" as there are obviously several issues to resolve. In the meantime rather than dwelling on the negative, Guns will be moving forward and surprisingly (without giving away any details) this unfortunate set of circumstances may have given us the opportunity to take our recording that one extra step further. Regardless we hope to announce a release date within the next few months.
Sincerely,
W. Axl Rose
#172 Re: Guns N' Roses » Could Madagascar Be A Pseudo Sequel To Civil War? » 596 weeks ago
Cant see it really. I have always viewed Madagascar to be Axl breaking his silence on the breakup of the old band and the mess that followed, especially because of how he introduced it at RIR3. Using the same sample he used in Civil War is perhaps a way of pointing us back to the old band and alluding to those times as a civil war...
Man I still get a kick out of the RIR3 version!

No wonder he clashed with Tommy, cant imagine that guy being too accommodating to Buckets quirkiness.

Nice! I've always wanted to hear from him, wish it was more in depth about the making of the album and individual songs. His solo on TIL is one of the highlights of the whole album for me, its dripping with emotion, I've said it before, its the sound of a heart breaking... wish more people got it and it had the recognition it deserves.

@ Apex it was late on a Friday night and I was feeling the love, I wasnt meaning it as a knock on current mods, I was just merely trying to claim you for the forum before you were poached by external forces. I traversed a treacherous sea of horrors to bring you that message...
And while your in the mood can you dig up the quote from tommy where he says no matter what happened CD always boiled down to the same songs, I cannie mind what interveiw he said it, but I think its relevant in any speculation on a so called treasure trove of unreleased material.

Apex can I congratulate you on being so fuckin awesome, you were always a highlight of this forum and yet you've still managed to take up the reigns in a mixed up, muddled up shook up world that GNR Evo has been cast into... I nominate you for forum mod, your a fuckin legend and your a fuckin class act, I said it yonks ago, you are a wonderful writer, and you just get better and better.
I feel embarrassed logging in and being a drunken fuck, whereas when I first joined used to log in and be challenged to be a higher caliber poster than the other forums because every regular member used to put their point across in quite an intellectual and considerate manner, now I'm a drooling drunk fuck, I'm a brass neck, just dont care and completely lost my luster. But i see a challenge in you, I dont want to grace a forum where I cant mix with the best, and i see you as one of the best posters in the online GNR community and i want to be able to mix it with you.
Point is you are the shining light for GNREvo and you can lead the forum back to the, never over populated, but one of the most watched and listened to forums out there.
Apex for Mod please
#178 Re: Guns N' Roses » GNR Evo Updates » 598 weeks ago
I like the new layout, but as said the guy with the braids is long gone, it gives the forum a dated look. Also agree with Atari that with the homepage only highlighting GNR stuff the other forums will suffer, fact is people speed browse webpages on the net, the majority will just check the latest posts on the homepage and continue surfing.
#179 Re: Guns N' Roses » South American Tour info comes tomorrow. » 598 weeks ago
I know theres a lot of talk that Axl is South America daft just cause its an easy buck, maybe its true I dunno... but I found this and it made me think there might be more behind the logic than just a making a quick buck. Maybe some of the money does go to worthy causes, would be nice if its true...
