#1791 Re: GN'R Downloads » What Axl & Slash would sound like in 2010 » 782 weeks ago
Doesn't quite work - the vocals go off-key in the choruses - but it's a cute idea. With a bit more work tweaking the backing track (and maybe adding in some nuances - vocals from other songs, maybe?) it could work better.
It'd be quite fun if, as someone suggests in the comments, someone could marry up some Axl vocals to Watch This! Or, assuming that the Slash solo album is on Rock Band or Guitar Hero or whatever, do some full-on remixes sticking Axl's vocals onto reworked Slash songs.

Slash may be tearing the songs up, but could someone please sit Myles down with the booklets from the GN'R/VR/Snakepit albums and teach him the fucking lyrics? His continually messing up the lyrics to Civil War is just getting embarrassing now.

I don't give a shit what anybody says when I heard that fan remix of Slash's Beautiful Dangerous with Axl's lyrics from Prostitute well fuck that just sounds like Guns N' F' N' Roses to me.
Got a link? I wouldn't mind hearing that.
Personally, I don't think that Slash and Axl would suddenly make Great Music were they to get back together now. Slash's output since GN'R hasn't had the same spark; the best of his output (Ghost, By The Sword, Beggars and Hangers-On, Slither, Fall To Pieces etc) is only as good as the average Use Your Illusion tracks.
I've no doubt that Axl could probably work some magic on those songs (Ghost in particular could really do with some decent lyrics) but they're just conventional classic rock. There's nothing in there like Better or If The World, and that's the sort of thing Axl wants to do these days.

Woohoo! I've just bought a ticket for the Dublin gig!

The title track's good; it's a great track in isolation, it's a killer album opener. But as a single, that lengthy intro kills it stone dead.

They should've put Better out as the first single. No question about it. The DJs were always gonna hit them with negative buzz; unless they put out a killer single and the public got behind it, it was always gonna be "Blah blah where's Slash blah blah I'm a whiny little bitch."
Better was an ideal single - short, punchy, killer hook, sounds very different to the old band while still retaining that bluesy feel with the outro solo, some great changes of direction and solos from both the lead guitarists.
They should've put Better out first, then hit the public with TWAT - a grandiose follow-up to November Rain, with the big outro solo that proves Axl didn't need Slash. In my head, I picture a video in which Buckethead emerges from a chicken coop on top of the same fucking cliff as in the November Rain video, plays that solo and is beamed up to his home planet. Ah, if only they'd released THAT in '02.
Once the band's demonstrated that it can do hard rock and an epic ballad that can outdo November Rain, it's time to bring out the crossover single - If The World.
Fuck, a trained monkey could've made this thing a hit. The one thing they SHOULDN'T have done is put Chinese Democracy out as the first single.

Good performance though. Slash was quite solid.
well in his defense, no teleprompter wonder how many lyrics Axl would butcher without it.:haha::butt:
Axl's messed up his share of lyrics and songs too. Having to start songs over. "Patience" comes to mind. It happens. I was just pointing it out because I took notice right away. "Didn't he JUST sing that verse?"
Yeah, but I've seen Myles fuck up Civil War two or three times now (doing the "carry the cross of homicide" bit in the first chorus on both occasions. Someone sit him down with a lyrics sheet, for fuck's sake.

What an unbelievable fucking asshole, ruined the best bit of the song for everyone.
Mind you, one of the other guitarists coulda stepped up to the plate and rattled through the solo once it was obvious that Slash wasn't gonna get a new guitar in time - I thought it was ingrained in every rock guitarist's DNA...

I hope to Christ it isn't Myles; he can sing, but he's nowhere near as good a lyricist as Scott. Or Axl, for that matter.
And he looks like Jim Carrey. And he can't be bothered to learn the lyrics to Civil War.
If I had to pick someone, I'd say they should get Chester Bennington. He's like a halfway house between Scott and Axl - he's similar in terms of stage presence to Scott, but he can hit the high notes. Oh, and he's a sufficiently big name that the record company execs would be happy.
Though I freely admit I have no idea if he's any cop as a lyricist.

Didn't we do this "fantasy 1995 album" thing before? I never understood Slash's hissy fit over Huge doubling up his guitar parts on Sympathy For The Devil (not least because, um, I think it sounds pretty good). Most of the killer riffs on Chinese Democracy have Huge's co-writing credits on 'em, too. Imagine if the SFTD line-up had recorded an album... you'd have stuff like Dime Store Rock and Beggars and Hangers-On, but with Axl-penned lyrics instead of "nervous twitchin' in my hands", Fall To Pieces (though it'd sound more like the "acoustic" demo version, I imagine), This I Love, maybe IRS, TWAT and Catcher if Huge was in the mix... might be interesting to try and cobble together a tracklist based on what we know.
