#18111 The Garden » Smear Campaign Against Ron Paul Goes Into Overdrive » 935 weeks ago

The smear campaign against Presidential candidate Ron Paul has hit an all time high with the corporate media today ludicrously declaring that the Congressman's immense worldwide popularity is all a huge con emanating from Dr Paul's own office.
Rupert Murdoch owned Australian outlet News.com.au has today disseminated the most insidious and farcical report concerning Ron Paul to date.
Headlined Republican Ron Paul in possible 'fake online campaign', the article attempts to convince the reader that every aspect of Ron Paul's popularity, from his you tube website, to his dominance of online polls and debate polls has been totally faked by his own staff!
The astounding accusation reads:
A CANDIDATE for the US presidency is being buoyed by a massive online campaign that may be a fake grassroots movement organised by party staff.
Head of Flinders University's Department of American Studies Don De Bats told NEWS.com.au that it 'sounded like' an astroturfing campaign.
Astroturfing is the term used to describe a fake grassroots campaign, where members of an organization create the illusion that 'ordinary people' are behind the movement.
Note how the author of the article uses words such as "possible" and "may" and sounded like" to cover the fact that its content is total baloney from start to finish and could even be considered libelous.
From what I can make out (please correct me if I'm wrong because this trash is almost incoherent) the author, Mark Schliebs, then makes a pathetic rambling attempt to sell the notion that because popular youtube videos of Ron Paul were uploaded by the same person with the username RonPaul2008dotcom this means it is some sort of massive fake conspiracy???!
As blogger Darryl Mason points out in this excellent rebuttal, "The RonPaul2008 channel is an election channel, which every presidential wannabe who is seriously pursuing an online audience also has, including Billary, Giuliani and Barack Obama. It's an online campaign, so of course Ron Paul supporters or Ron Paul's own office is going to post clips, just as the teams behind Giuliani, Billary and Obama are now also doing."
Ron Paul's most popular clips on youtube have received tens of thousands of views, where as figures for Rudy Giuliani's most popular clips are in the low hundreds or even in the 90's. Ron Paul's youtube channel has been viewed 4.5 million times by supporters, is youtube in on this mass conspiracy too? Is youtube fixing its viewing figures for Ron Paul?
To add insult to injury Schliebs then throws in the "expert analysis" of an American studies professor. Not a technological expert or an experienced internet campaigner or someone within another successful grassroots organisation, but a guy who lectures about Abe Lincoln to 17 year olds:
Professor De Bats said that for a relatively unknown candidate like Dr Paul to have so much prominence online was suspicious.
'I would not put any credibility on those results,' Prof De Bats said.
'I find it terrifically surprising and unlikely (that Dr Paul would attract that level of response).'
I find it terrifically surprising that such awful journalism can make it into umpteen nationally syndicated newspapers, but it still has.
The piece reads like Schliebs has been ordered to attack Ron Paul and has just taken a wild stab in the dark with no foundation of evidence or substance and then had the gall to find some unwitting person with the letters "PhD" after their name to agree with him.
Similar claims denying reality have been made about Ron Paul's dominance in polls after Republican debates. Despite the fact that most major media organisations only allow one vote from each IP address or mobile phone, for text messaging polls, corporate media outlets keep suggesting that their own polls are being rigged and hijacked by Ron Paul spammers.
In a familiar move CNBC even removed its own poll on Tuesday night just hours after the debate had ended when they realized Ron Paul was winning by such a wide margin.
Today CNBC Managing Editor, Allen Wastler, responded to demands for an explanation by clearly stating that CNBC pulled the poll because Ron Paul was winning. Wastler then also spouted the conspiracy theory that every poll is being rigged for Ron Paul to win:
Now Paul is a fine gentleman with some substantial backing and, by the way, was a dynamic presence throughout the debate , but I haven't seen him pull those kind of numbers in any "legit" poll. Our poll was either hacked or the target of a campaign. So we took the poll down.
The next day, our email basked was flooded with Ron Paul support messages. And the computer logs showed the poll had been hit with traffic from Ron Paul chat sites. I learned other Internet polls that night had been hit in similar fashion. Congratulations. You folks are obviously well-organized and feel strongly about your candidate and I can't help but admire that.
Some of you Ron Paul fans take issue with my decision to take the poll down. Fine. When a well-organized and committed "few" can throw the results of a system meant to reflect the sentiments of "the many," I get a little worried. I'd take it down again.
What kind of twisted logic is this? Ron Paul has more fans and is attracting more committed and organised supporters than any other candidate, so it's not fair? We are talking about the lead up to a democratic election for crying out loud, THAT'S THE POINT OF AN ELECTION, TO DETERMINE WHO IS THE MOST POPULAR!!
Dear Mr Wastler, some Ron Paul detractors take issue with the fact Ron Paul is trouncing the opposition. Fine. But when a well-organized and committed "few" can throw the results of a system meant to reflect the sentiments of "the many," I get a little worried.
If a huge mass of people vote for Ron Paul and don't vote for Giuliani, too bad for Rudy, that does not mean the poll has been "hacked"! If you don't show up to vote, your vote doesn't get counted my friend.
If a football teams scores more points than their rivals because their players come out more committed and stronger, does it mean the game was rigged?
Many Neo-Con blog sites now do not even include Ron Paul in their polls anymore, pretending that he doesn't exist because too many people are voting for him!
How ridiculous is this going to get? If Ron Paul won the primaries and won the election would he then be stripped of the presidency because too many people want him to be president?
And I guess every other facet of Ron Paul's campaign has been rigged too. I guess the 5.1 million dollars he has raised is totally fake. I guess the fact that Ron Paul is the only Republican who is gaining in campaign funds is also fake. Ron Paul has won more straw polls than any other Republican candidate, that's fake naturally. The sun that came up this morning, that's fake too.
Corporate media outlets and interests are clearly frightened to death that the Congressman and his campaign of freedom and limited government has quickly become a huge phenomenon and that there is now a very serious chance for a Ron Paul candidacy.
#18112 The Garden » ConAgra recalls all frozen pot pies » 935 weeks ago

ConAgra Foods (CAG) is recalling all frozen pot pies made in the past two years amid a widening salmonella illness outbreak, it said Thursday night.
That includes beef, chicken and turkey pot pies sold under the Banquet, Albertsons, Hill Country Fare, Food Lion, Great Value, Kirkwood, Kroger, Meijer and Western Family brands.
No figures for the volume of food that represented were available.
The pot pies, made at ConAgra's Marshall, Mo., plant, have been linked to an eight-month outbreak believed responsible for at least 165 cases of salmonellosis in 31 states as of Thursday. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said at least 20 people have been hospitalized as part of the outbreak, but no deaths have been reported.
The recall is to protect consumers and ensure that they "are clearly 100% getting the message that we do not want them to eat this product and want them to either discard it or return it to their store for a refund," said ConAgra spokeswoman Stephanie Childs.
The recall comes three days after ConAgra issued a consumer advisory telling customers not to eat its chicken and turkey pot pies. The U.S. Department of Agriculture first linked the outbreak to ConAgra's pot pies on Monday.
USDA investigators have been in the Marshall plant since then but have not been able to identify the source of the salmonella, said David Goldman of the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service.
ConAgra had previously suggested that consumers need only cook the pot pies according to the instructions to kill any bacteria.
All ConAgra's pot pies are made at the Marshall plant, which began producing microwavable frozen pot pies in 2005.
"We're recalling all of them, all ever made at that plant," said Childs.
"It's great that they choose to do it. But it should've happened earlier," said Neal Hooker, an associate professor of economics at Ohio State University, who has studied meat and poultry recalls.
Recalls are pricey. Research firm Gimme Credit said in a report last month that ConAgra has rung up costs of $80 million '” about $20 million more than initial estimates '” because of this year's Peter Pan peanut butter recall, also linked to salmonella. Peter Pan's annual sales run about $150 million. ConAgra resumed shipping Peter Pan peanut butter in August.
Salmonella can cause diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps and usually lasts four to seven days. It is most commonly linked to raw poultry and eggs.
Consumers seeking refunds can send the side panel of the package to: ConAgra Foods, Dept. BQPP, P.O. Box 3768, Omaha, NE 68103-0768. Its toll-free number for consumer questions is 866-484-8671.

Yeah, I've never been into the Cobain/Axl discussions either. It usually gets ugly and winds up turning into an argument of grunge vs hair metal. I included him in my post because he is regarded by some as a genius.
Axl's small resume is really what bites him on the ass when comparing him to legends of our time, and "quality control" doesn't really help his case in my opinion. Other legends didn't worry about things like that.

I wanted to resume this discussion we were starting at the temp site. Where does Ax truly fit in the history books when comparing him to people such as Lennon, McCartney, Robert Plant, Jim Morrison, Brian Wilson, etc.? Besides factoring in timeless legends, does Axl and his resume deserve to stand next to more modern artists such as Chris Cornell, James Hetfield, Eddie Vedder, Cobain, etc?

As you can see, we have launched the new site. There are still things being worked on, so if you notice any sort of glitch or something, its only temporary.
If you have any complaints, suggestions, etc., feel free to start a thread in this section.
I will leave the temp site open a few more days, and will then put it in maintenance mode. I will not remove it though in case this site were to go down for some reason, the temp site would still exist as an open line of communication.
Let the new era begin.

LYNN, Mass. - Adrian Exley was wrapped tightly in heavy plastic, then bound with duct tape. A leather hood was put over his head with a thin plastic straw inserted so that he could breathe, and he was shut up in a closet.
That, apparently, was the way Exley liked it. But the way it ended '” with Exley suffocating '” was not what he had in mind when he traveled from Britain for a bondage session with a man he had met through a sadomasochism Web site.
Exley's body was discovered in the woods last year, two months after he was bound up in the bondage 'playroom' Gary LeBlanc had built in the basement of his suburban Boston home. LeBlanc, a 48-year-old Gulf Oil sales executive, detailed his responsibility in the fatal bondage session in a five-page suicide note, just before he put a gun to his head and killed himself.
Now the question is: Since Exley consented to the sex play, can LeBlanc be held responsible for his death?
Exley's family is suing LeBlanc's estate for unspecified damages, claiming wrongful death. Many bondage enthusiasts are watching the case closely, seeing it as a lesson in where to draw the line of responsibility on consensual but dangerous sex.
'There's definitely the whole spectrum of thought on what really happened '” whether it was a consent issue, or negligence or misunderstanding,' said Vivienne Kramer, a board member of the New England Leather Alliance. 'Everybody has their own ideas on what should have happened.'
Details of sex play
Exley and LeBlanc met through an online forum for gay men into rubber, leather and bondage. Exley, a 32-year-old stripper, used the screen name 'Studpup,' while LeBlanc called himself 'Rubrman' and built a chamber with rubber mats on the floors and walls, chains, leather restraints, rubber suits and a hospital gurney.
Exley arrived at LeBlanc's house in Lynn in April 2006 after the pair had exchanged e-mails in which they discussed plans for LeBlanc to play the 'master' and Exley his 'slave,' according to the lawsuit.
John Andrews, a lawyer for LeBlanc's estate, said Exley knew the risks going in. 'What occurred was an act or actions between two consenting adults, both of whom knew what they were doing, and it had a tragic end,' he said.
The lawsuit describes a three-day bondage and discipline session that ended when a third man, Scott Vincent, discovered Exley was not breathing. Exley had been put in a closet while bound in plastic up to his neck and left alone for several hours, according to the lawsuit.
In his suicide note, LeBlanc admitted that Exley at one point had trouble breathing. But he said that after 'cooling him down,' Exley improved. LeBlanc said that he went to sleep about 3 a.m. but was woken up a few hours later by Vincent, who told him Exley was not breathing and was turning blue and cold.
LeBlanc said he panicked, and he and Vincent drove to Rhode Island, where they buried the body and threw away Exley's clothing and identification.
The Rhode Island medical examiner determined that Exley suffocated. Vincent said in a sworn statement that the straw had fallen out of his mouth in the closet.
Vincent, a flight attendant who is also being sued, is charged with failure to report a death in Rhode Island. But he has not been charged in Massachusetts.
In his note, LeBlanc said he was 'responsible for a horrible tragedy,' adding: 'Had I dealt with the first crisis responsibly, he would likely have returned home safely.'
Lawyers for Exley's estate acknowledge that Exley wanted to participate in a bondage session, but say he did not know about LeBlanc's reputation as an 'extreme edge player' in the world of bondage and sadomasochism.
'Just because you are agreeing that you will allow someone to tie you up temporarily as part of role-playing doesn't mean that you are consenting to be killed or to be left alone or to be abused,' attorney Randy Chapman said.
Several people who came forward after Exley's death told police that LeBlanc had restrained them and left them alone for long periods or ignored their requests that he curtail a bondage session.
Both actions go against the bondage protocols, which say participants must stop if their partner uses a prearranged 'safe word' or 'safe signal' and must not leave anyone who is bound alone, said Susan Wright, a spokeswoman for the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom.
Practitioner: A point where line is crossed
Brian Plant, a bondage and sadomasochism practitioner from Kansas, said: 'Nobody goes into these things saying, '˜Oh, well, I'm going to die because of it.' You reach a point when the line is crossed, and it is no longer consensual.'
Kathy Jo Cook, a lawyer who specializes in wrongful death cases, said that when you take away the sensational details of the Exley case, the claim being made by Exley's estate is the same made in many other wrongful death cases.
'The law says if a person causes the death of another person by an act which is either negligent or reckless, that person is liable,' Cook said. 'You have a duty to behave reasonably. I think it's the same thing here, albeit a very strange set of facts.'
It was Exley's mother, Maggie Horner, who decided to sue LeBlanc's estate.
'We decided that we didn't want Gary's last wishes being granted when Adrian's couldn't be,' she said. 'Why should Gary be able to kill my son, bury my son, shoot himself and still get his own way?'
