#181 Re: The Sunset Strip » Poll: Best Metallica '95-'08 Era Album? » 615 weeks ago
I would've voted for Garage, Inc. had it been on here. Despite them being covers, I thought it was pretty cohesive, and very Metallica. It came out just as I started high school, and everytime I hear Whiskey In The Jar, I get a little teary-eyed, might quite possibly be my high school anthem.
But out of those -- Load. Just a solid record, their UYI I, and has alot of memorable Metallica classics, despite the obvious blues-hard rock direction the band took. Reload wasn't as good, St. Anger... really?, Death Magnetic was a return of sorts to Justice-era Metallica, but lacked memorable tunes outside of the singles imo, and Lulu doesn't count.
But with these posts you've made, you've definitely reminded me what a great band Metallica once was.
Funny you mention Load as their UYI1, I often think of the Loads as Metallica's UYI's and the Black Album as their AFD.
I've mention in the thread about Metallica's earlier albums, that I prefer Reload to Load while Load seems to be more popular with most other fans, the same is true for me with UYI2. I love UTI1 and all, just like I love Load, but I like UYI2 a little better. You Could Be Mine is my favorite GNR rocker outside of AFD, and Knockin' on Heaven's Door my favorite cover. And I can listen to UYI2 straight through, while UYI1 has a few tracks that I skip.
I added Garage Inc to the poll, sorry you didn't get to vote for it. I'm glad someone gave Load a vote though, it's too good of an album to not get any love.

Totally forgot about it as well, just added it to the poll.

Avenged Sevenfold frontman M Shadows admits Machine Head mainman Robb Flynn had a point when he poked fun at new A7X album Hail To The King.
Flynn recently congratulated them for the success of their "latest covers album" and added: "Who knew that re-recording Metallica, Guns n'Roses and Megadeth songs could be a worldwide hit? Ba-dap psssss!"
And he suggested their track This Means War sounded like Metallica's Sad But True, joking the band was about to change their name to "Sad But Two."
Now Shadows tells Canadian radio station 106.9 The Bear: "I really don't know what to say about it other than I agree with him on the Sad But True thing — that was obviously an inspiration for that song.
"Everything else – if it is a joke, it was kind of overboard, 'cause it doesn't make sense in my mind. But at the same time, he was saying it was a joke.
"I have met Robb on numerous occasions and he's always been cool to me. And I just read it as a joke. I have no ill will towards those guys. if he just wants to go in there and write whatever he wants, I think that's totally cool.
"Everyone has an opinion and everyone should be entitled to say whatever they want. So it's no skin off our backs."
But Shadows thinks it's natural that the band's influences will be laid bare. "Metal has become very blast-beat, screamy-oriented," he says.
"When you take things back and go to a more classic rock feel, you're gonna feel the similarities to what we were trying to do.
"We were trying to make an Avenged Sevenfold album from the early 90s and late 80s. I think all the bands he said, we were very inspired by. Also Sabbath, Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones."

No love for LULU... Gee I wonder why..!
Lol. I haven't even listened to Lulu, from what I've ready, it's not really a Metallica album, it's a Lou Rees album with Metallica playing in it.

It was a hard call, but I went with ReLoad. While Load is really good, I find that ReLoad has more songs that stand out to me, like Fuel, The Memory Remains, and Unforgiven II. Especially Unforgiven II, I remember it being a huge hit and MTV playing the video 24/7.

For me I don't really have a favorite mid 90s to current Metallica fav. I like a couple songs off of Reload, a few off Load, and some of Death Magnetic. There are interesting material that could of went somewhere much darker and edgier on St. Anger.
Yeah, I think most people feel that way about these albums. I may only have a soft spot for the Loads because they came out while I was in HS, so it's like my generations Metallica.

I like DM, but it doesn't have any tracks that stand out to me. Where as the Loads, the first 7 tracks on Load and the first 5 on ReLoad are some of my favorite Metallica songs.

The last Metallica poll was pretty popular, so I thought we'd try it with the rest of their albums.
After the Black Album, I like the 2 Load albums best, and I'm kind of going back and forth between them at the moment. So I'm going to give them a fresh listen or two before casting my vote.

Bon Jovi were forced to cancel their concert in Mexico City on Tuesday (September 10th) after drummer Tico Torres was hospitalized to undergo an emergency appendectomy.
Early Thursday morning frontman Jon Bon Jovi posted the following message for fans on the group's website to give them the details about what happened: "Last night Tico Torres underwent an emergency appendectomy.
"Thankfully, the operation was a success and Tico is now recovering in the care of his doctors at the American British Cowdray Hospital. We'd like to thank the doctors, nurses and all the hospital staff who helped our friend through this difficult time.
"We'll remain here with Tico in Mexico City and will see him through his release. David and I spent the day with him at the hospital and Tico sends his thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers. He wants everyone to know that it was his desire to perform. He even promised the doctors he would come back for the surgery right after the show but the doctors prevailed.
"We know many of you make great efforts and travel from around the world to see us on tour. It remains our desire to give you the best that we have every night. We are sorry for any inconvenience this sudden change of plans may have caused. We'll re-schedule any dates that we can and will continue the tour through December."
