He helped facilitate the leaking of 19 discs of unreleased music, I think he got off lightly.

I'm sure he'll be able to attend future gigs if he just goes general admission and keeps a low profile.

Yeah, he kind of put himself out there for any discipline. I would think he’d be able to get into a show if he kept it low key, but that doesn’t seem to be his style.

Not too bad. I was really hoping Melissa would help out more forcefully on that high pitched “love’s so strange” outro. That would be a perfect use of her voice. It would take some pressure off Axl.

Axl held up Ok. Slash killed it.

Yeah, Axl started out strong and did well with the low parts. Higher range was touch and go. That’s a bitch of a song to sing though I’d have to think. No real breaks for the first 6 minutes.

I’m on the road for work until later in the week so I can’t really check them out until then. No lyrics to any of these songs?

Thanks for pointing out, Atari. It’s crazy.

I like this material. I am a diehard Guns N Roses fan. But saying this stuff would have been a hit back in that day is delusional. Nobody wanted GNR without Slash. That hasn’t changed from 96-19.

Exactly. Some of us would’ve loved it, but that’s not saying much. In a sense, I can understand the hesitation from the record company. They wanted that big smash hit to move units. But as you pointed out, that wasn’t likely to happen without Slash in tow. Looking back, they should have just released what they had and hoped for the best. Easier said than done though when you don’t have millions invested in it. But all they really ended up doing was wasting a decade or so of Axl’s career.

Fernando is a pretty constant figure on the forums and from what I understand, it sounds like him. Hardschool wouldn't be on the set list for no reason. These leaks wouldn't be happening if someone didn't know their value were about to nosedive. They have a boatload of songs and they have had a few years to re-record this stuff.

Do you think a new album would feature most of these leaked songs? I would think Slash, Duff, etc. would want to have their hands in on the writing process instead of adding to ready made songs. I’m not sure how much it matters but would they get writing credits on 20 year old songs that they weren’t around for the infancy stage?

I’m not sure there’s any rhyme or reason for these latest leaks but it could be because they’re not planned for release so they in a sense have lost value.

Personally I would expect/hope some of these songs get released with Slash and Duff putting their spin on them. But I’d also think we’d hear some originals from the current lineup. We’ll see though, hopefully.

I'm, like, 'I never was trying to be Slash.'

Mm-hm. Then why did Ashba only wear the Slash-wannabe top hat in GN'R? Why did he tailor his look to an approximation of Slash's, from the hat to the Les Paul with the cigarette burns on it? Everything about his stage persona in GN'R was meant to look and feel like a dollar-store version of Slash. But where Slash did all those things instinctively, Ashba's stage persona was contrived from the get-go. That, I think, is what rubbed people the wrong way; the fact that it was all calculated, you could feel there was something off about it.

Didn’t he have the same look in Sixx AM? I don’t think he joined GNR and all of a sudden tried to rip Slash off. That’s who he was before. He was in a tough spot like all the other replacements. I appreciated their association for keeping the train rolling all those years. I saw the DJ era lineup live once and they put on a great 3 plus hour marathon of a show. I had no complaints other than they never released any music, but I don’t think you can blame that on DJ.

The Chairman, thank you!  I don’t want to speak for everyone on this board but these past few weeks have me more excited for the future of GNR than I’ve been in a longtime.

My interest has definitely been piqued, but I'm not convinced this all really means anything as far as getting new material out.  It does seem like that's a good possibility sometime soon, but we've heard and played that before.  I would think it would be easier for Axl to cut through the red tape with some familiar faces at his side this time around.  All of this material we've heard the last few weeks has proven what a bitch it must have really been with a new cast of characters.

FWIW, a friend of mine was at the show tonight and he said it was the best concert he's ever seen and he's not a diehard.  They still put on a great show, even if we know what's coming.  Maddy is a nice little change at least.

Oklahoma should've been performed at HOB instead of Riad.

That's saying a lot considering your affinity for Riad.  But I agree wholeheartedly.
