Duff has probably had the best solo career IMO. Believe in Me is practically a lost GN'R record, Walking Papers is a fantastic band. Tenderness got plaudits from Bob Dylan!

How would everyone feel if GNR used these techniques to create new material as James suggested? Feels similar to the whole debate as to whether bands should use backing tracks live...
In studio? I suspect we'd never know if they were using it or not (if Axl even needs something like this in studio). Live, I suspect it would be more obvious (if it's even possible to do something like that in real time). TBH I don't see it as a particular issue – like I say, it's effectively just another form of vocal effect, and vocalists routinely employ those without batting an eyelid. And there's all sorts of vastly more dubious trickery employed in live performance; IIRC one famous drummer from the 70s basically mimes live while a session drummer pounds away behind the curtain, for instance.
In some ways it's more authentic than slapping some Pro Tools effect over Axl's voice, since it is his voice – used as training data to apply a layer over his current voice. If actors' appearances can be digitally de-aged using data based on their previous appearance, why not singers' voices?
Axl himself might have a different opinion though, especially given how obviously proud he is of running around performing live.

Bit of an ethical minefield, this. On the one hand, it's somewhat of an insult to Axl's efforts to perform live to the best of his ability; the man's running around the stage, giving it his all, at 60. On the other, Axl himself resorted to in-studio trickery, subbing in re-recorded studio vocals on Live Era.
What's quite interesting is that we're probably not far off the point where AI could do something like this in real-time – just applying a "1988" or "1993" filter to Axl's vocals as he's performing live. Would that be considered cheating? Or would audiences even care?

Still nothing on anything
A recent newsletter on Fortus visiting family, if it's interesting https://www.lafayetteindustries.com/wp- … letter.pdf
Aw, that's cute.

It does not make sense to me to believe that the label literally blocked the release from 1998-2008 and that Axl had nothing to do with it.
Why not? It's happened plenty of times before:

Songs are coming out soon, summertime. Record label are the goto for this, band members vague on anything
Year off next year, assumed from external parties and plans outside gnr
Glastonbury will have at least one guest possibly, source, the guest. Very guessable lol
Better not be Carrie Underwood! They really could make a splash by having Izzy and Steven imo
It's not Carrie. It's Glasto, so it has to be a surprise. Not wanting to spoil things, if it's true. We did the line up first, I think that's enough lol
Elton John? He's at Glasto too. Or Lana Del Rey?

But probably they were dissatisfied with the financial returns on the first GN'R songs with "the old lineup" in 30 years hitting the market.
Maybe they should've done literally any promo then. Like, an interview with Axl on mainstream TV or in Rolling Stone or something. And not made the first song out of the gate with the reunion line-up Silkworms, a track that's not exactly a radio friendly unit shifter.
It would've been so easy to do this right. Launch with Hard Skool, get Axl on the TV (or, hell, if he won't do it, have Slash and Duff go out there and do some promo). Do a nice exclusive interview with a major publication, do some Reddit AMAs or something. Make Absurd the b-side if you're married to the song.

I'm seeing them because, well, they're my favourite band. And the death of Taylor Hawkins really brought it home to me; I'd held off on seeing the Foos because, "eh, they'll be around in a couple of years with another album," and now I'm never going to get to see the iconic lineup even if the band continues. Likewise I peaced out on seeing GN'R play London in 2002 because "I'm sure they'll be back with the album in a year or so!" and lo and behold, I missed the one chance to see Buckethead play on UK shores.
So, yeah, I'm seeing GN'R on this tour even if they play the same setlist as they did last time (actually, given that Axl cut short the set on that occasion due to illness it's likely I'll get to see more of 'em this time). Because who knows when or if they'll be back?

Was listening to some Izzy on YouTube while waiting for dinner to finish cooking.
It's too bad he couldn't/wouldn't be involved...whether in new GNR or the reunion.
Great little song ...just begs for some Duff bass, a Slash solo spot, and Axl on backing vocals during the chorus.

That song begs to be a GNR deep cut on a reunion album.
It's endlessly frustrating listening to Izzy solo stuff, because I find myself thinking "I know exactly what Axl would sound like singing this, what little bass licks Duff would thrown in, and what guitar tone Slash would be using in the right channel."

AI has some interesting implications for GN'R fans, doesn't it? Ultimately we might be able to say to an AI, "Remove the drums from the studio version of Hard Skool and replace them with the drums from the demo version…"
