he's saying that every song you hear in advance of the album kinda lessens the impact of the album when it finally goes on sale

Is he? I thought he was talking about the "surprise element". Surely, the surprise of hearing new songs is the same regardless of whether those songs are leaked or officially released. Whatever it is within the songs that are surprising remains the same regardless of how we obtain the songs.

But okay, we are now talking about "the album impact". I agree that the impact of the album necessarily must be reduced when the songs are already known. But what we gained was a huge impact of the leaks! I would dare to say that the impact of the leaks which we got is equal in size to the impact of the album which we lost. Hence it doesn't matter. Of course the album meant less to us when the content was already known compared to a situation where it was all novel. So we ended up buying the record to support the band, not to hear the songs. But I dare to say that what I lost album-wise I gained leak-wise. The impact of the music remains the same. And GN'R still got my money.

And even if Atlas were to be leaked I don't wanna hear it.  I'll wait to be able to buy the album.  That way I'll still have the surprise element.

Are you saying you were not surprised when you heard the leaked songs? Or is the surprise when hearing released songs qualitatively different from the surprise when hearing leaked songs?

Ah, I forgot to mention, the next out in my Q&A series will be Michael Monroe. Any question suggestions for Michael can be posted at AFD. Thanks. And I'll inform GNR Evolution when the Q&A is published.

Btw, this is a great forum.

Wow, Richard's broken record streak of 'no comment', has now ended with a pretty solid interview.

Not entirely correct, Appetite for Discussion did another Q&A with Richard back in July 2009.

Sorry for not posting this Q&A here directly, I intended to but I forgot my login and was too busy yesterday. Thanks to faldor for doing it for me.

Btw, the forum is called 'Appetite for Discussion' wink.
