#11 Re: Guns N' Roses » Perhaps (2023) to Drop » 133 weeks ago
I looked at the online store for a “Perhaps” cd and came across this:
https://gnrmerch.com/collections/last-c … r-keychain
Guns “and” Roses? This was approved by Team Brazil for manufacturing?
The full extent of their incompetence is astonishing.
hahahahaha! One of my big pet peeves is when I see people type Guns and Roses and here we have now official GnR merch with it spelled that way. pathetic,.
As for the single Perhaps, it's impossible to even get excited about it. The song title itself isn't even convinced.

Great example of recency bias is the love for Scraped on the first few pages of this thread. Probably speaks to the thirst for real rock on the record even if the song doesn’t hold up after a few listens.
Absolutely. The recency bias was strong for sure. Scraped is ass. The song that holds up the best over the last 15+ years in my opinion is Chinese Democracy. It's the most straight forward rock song and it hasn't aged nearly as poorly as the rest of the album. To this day though I still think the song that had the most potential was Prostitute, but like everything else on the album falls incredibly flat in it's attempt to be epic. That and the guitar solo is atrocious in relation to suiting the song.

I can’t take any Chinese Democracy sessions track list serious without Madagascar.
I can't even take CD seriously so... that creates a problem
#16 Re: Guns N' Roses » How do you feel about CD potentially being the last GNR album? » 145 weeks ago
CD is a trash album in my opinion. It's a stain on the catalogue. It should be retconned entirely
It will suck if that's the last GnR album but reality is it likely will be.

Dude was a legend. Like harmon420 said , Graham was one of the best heels of all time. Influential for so many guys who came after him

One more thing to consider. For all we know perhaps U2 has a new album ready but don't wanna release new material until Larry is healthy enough to tour? That's speculation on my part, I have no idea, but I do know Larry has back issues and wants to take a year to get healthy. A band like U2 won't wanna release new material if they can't tour it.

The fans giving them shit for this are in the minority. What this album is, is giving fans studio versions of the songs the way Bono has been performing them during his solo shows promoting his "Songs of Surrender" book. The song selection isn't strange as the songs are those Bono speaks of in his book and what they meant to him.
Also U2 has stated they are working on new material for a new album and have been for a while now. It's not far off. They aren't promoting this as their new album. Simply the reimagined album. They know fans want new music but they also know fans have enjoyed these shows by Bono with the songs being performed in a new arrangement.
Also the songs will all be likely acoustic and toned down and sung in a different key which in all likelihood makes it easier for Bono to sing as he ages. So now if they decide to toss in one of these reimagined songs on their next tour and perform it this way, fans won't be shocked and will likely be happy to have heard them this way as it will be familiar. It allows them to be more versatile in their live shows in a way.
Also think of it this way. Sometimes people just wanna chill at home with some soft music in the background and they don't feel like having Achtung Baby or Boy playing at their full tempo. This album will fit nicely in that regard and it will also be a much more pleasing album to play in coffee shops or lounges. Maybe some people think that's lame but let's face it they're getting older as is their fanbase and sometimes hearing slower acoustic versions of songs you love is cool. U2 has never done this before and the fact they are doing it big with 40 songs that span their career is actually cool. Anyone can sit here and say there are too many songs missing but those songs will be different for each individual. There's 40 songs here. That's 3 or 4 albums worth. So they don't have Mysterious Ways or Bullet the Blue Sky. They do have Wild Horses, 11 O'clock Tick Tock, and Two Hearts Beat as One though. You can't have every song in the discography. So you get a few more deep cuts rather than singles which have been featured prominently their entire career. That's cool.
At the end of the day some bands *cough cough.. GnR* haven't done a damn thing other than tour since 2008 and in the minds of some since 1993. U2 has released music consistently the last 22 years, albeit slowing down, but that's the way things go as bands age. I will admit my initial reaction to this was also that is' lazy but the more I think about it, at this stage of their careers this is actually a cool move by U2.

You're right. I went to Philly to see them and splurged on the VIP shit. Never again lol. Completely forgot that show when I wrote my post. Still, excluding that, where they only did 25 cities, they usually do arena shows outside of festivals. The fact that they're doing single digit stadium shows in 2022 and 2023 within North America leads me to believe they're going to resume arena shows to support the new album in 24.
I did the VIP thing too for Denver and I thought it was worth every penny. Got to skip the line up for GA, had early access to the entire stadium so we walked around in the upper decks and took pictures of the stage and empty stadium, got food and beer and a t-shirt and then early access to the floor which allowed us to have front row. I thought it was amazing. Saw them in Vegas a year later at T-Mobile arena and I will say I enjoyed the stadium show better.
