"This I Love' is actually an old GN'R song that the original GN'R wrote and recorded for the 'Illusion' records. I like that song a lot.. it took a couple of weeks to find all the tapes, because they finished recording 'Use Your Illusions' on the road and one tape was in Paris, another in London, and another in Sydney, I believe." (Dave Dominguez, Sp1at, 04/21/05)
The only Guns show mentioned above, which predates the release of Illusions (09/16-17/91), is their first one in London (08/31/91). Elsewhere, Axl suggests TIL is a post-Illusion song, and it's possible that Dominguez means the Spaghetti Incident? sessions in '92-93, during which additional covers were recorded to round it up to album-length. GNR played in London the second time on 04/20/92, Paris on 06/06/92, and Sydney on 01/30/93. The TIL sessions could've taken place near each of the shows.
Curiously, onstage in both Antebonné and Paris in September 2010, Axl would refer to This I Love as "the only GNR song written in France".

This suggests a version of it did exist at some point that wasn't just Axl playing the piano.
That would be interesting. I know that Axl also played parts of it during his piano solos on the Illusions tour so who knows how far developed the song was at that stage.

Amazing that IRS aired on the Trunk show and nobody managed to get a decent copy of it. You remember that horrible recording that was floating around? Like it was taped with a Nokia on the other side of the room.
I probably still have that somewhere. The quality was bad, but it still was pretty exciting to hear

I had to decide between Better and IRS now. I went with Better in the hope of keeping Madagascar alive for another round

Almost everything Lanegan does is awesome. I wonder how much he'll be involved if he is not the main singer.

Does anybody else suspect that this new show will at some point merge with the original?

I wonder why they changed the name of The Blues. Street of Dreams sound so cheesy in comparison.
I couldn't agree more

I remember people thinking Oklahoma was Riad many moons ago. Wasn't Ides of March first mentioned in 05 as well as Atlas Shrugged, Zodiac, etc.? That Spat article gave us quite a bit of info. I still say quick song is CD. Description fit it to a tee. Well, what CD sounded like back then anyways.
I just wish he'd hurry it up. I think time is running out on this thing.
I doubt that Oklahoma/Berlin is Riad or that Quick Song is CD. Axl mentioned those songs in the online chats after CD was released.

Oklahoma aka Berlin was mentioned very early on. What about Ides Of March? The Beltrami songs quoted in 2002 were all pretty hyped as well and they were known way before we heard of Better, Shakler''s, Scraped, ITW...

James Lofton wrote:Oh it was destined for CD. Every mythical track made it to the album. It was a few years later when song titles like The General, Atlas Shrugged, etc. reached that status.
Would have to check whispers but I would say most of the 'mythical' tracks were kept off CD. Of the Big Guns people used to refer to I'd say TWAT, Prostitute and possibly Catcher were the only ones to make it. The General, Seven, Thyme, Oklahoma, Atlas, Leave Me Alone all remain unheard.
In an alternate universe we may have got those all on one album but I think the leaks had a big say on what made the cut.
That's how I see it too.

Madagascar is one of my favorite tracks in the entire discography regardless of Axl's choice to sing it that way. Street of Dreams is the same, doesn't matter if they could have been better, they're both great to me.
I have no issue with the movie quotes either.
Madagascar is one of my all time GN'R favorites as well. I still remember the huge impression it had left on me when I first heard it at the VMAs live on TV (yes, that flawed performance). I don't have any issues with the album version either. For those who don't like the quotes, there is a version out there where they are removed..
