#1991 Re: Guns N' Roses » "Chicken Dinner" Shackler's Revenge Leak » 879 weeks ago
Hello, everyone. Um, with my usual brilliant timing I buggered off on holiday for a week just as the song leaked... can anyone hook me up with a PM?
#1992 Re: Guns N' Roses » Robin's Site » 880 weeks ago
Robin ain't coming back. That is so beyond obvious at this point.
And now they've got Azoff, VR has went dark, rumors of hotels... you know i'm sayin'.
Just putting it out there.
Random thought: what if Velvet Revolver's new singer was... Axl Rose? What if they've managed to settle their differences, Axl retains the Guns N' Roses name and continues to tour his new songs with the new Guns N' Roses... and Velvet Revolver goes on tour with Axl as the singer?
Yeah, it's an absurd idea, but no more or less absurd than the rotating cast of musicians around Axl being called Guns N' Roses.

The irony is that with time and distance, the (one-sided) feud between GN'R and Nirvana seems laughably irrelevant and petty (and, of course, like most of Nirvana's negative points, was exacerbated by That Bitch Courtney).
For all Cobain's posturing about being "anti-industry", he ended up becoming the mainstream. All the guff about "grunge changing the face of music forever" has, over time, ended up with grunge just being another "swing of the pendulum", a phase music went through. As far as the kids listening to both bands are concerned, they both fall under the broad church of "rock".
And, yes, irony of ironies, Grohl has ended up churning out bland, cookie-cutter mainstream rock. I really hope Chinese Democracy emerges from the wilderness and blows him away.

Rockstar For A Day
Wasted Away
Time
Overloaded
Breaking Away
Shadow
Actually, just d/l the Normal album; it's got a really great narrative running through it, and each song contributes to it.

Guys those were really huge IF's to those points. That's not even mentioning the possibility
that the next singer for VR will be something very, very special. And it's another big if that the
guys even want a reunion. And a huge if that Axl would somehow spontaneously say, okay, I got
that out of my system, now back to that other unfinished GNR album... And then there is the
business of going about a reunion. Axl is not going to do a 360 degree change of who he is for
the benefit of the old days and for what the fans want.I'll say anything is possible. But I'm looking at this logically and I'm not interjecting a possible
reunion scenerio into every topic. That gets old after a while. I think a lot of it is meant to try
and undermine the current GNR by some disgruntled old line up fans who don't want CD to be
a success, because failiure of CD, in their minds, will lead to a fantasy reunion.A reunion is not that simple.
It does frustrate me, the number of people who seem to think that Axl just needs to get Chinese Democracy out of his system so he can get back to the "real business" of organising a reunion. Bugger that. I want to see what the new band is capable of.
Though I admit there's a tiny part of me that'd kill to see Slash and Fortus sharing a stage.

Izzy would not tour with them. He wouldn't be able to put up with Axl on the road or recording.
And more importantly, with no Izzy, there would be NO REAL REUNION.Agreed..for us fanboys. But the general public wouldn't give a shit. How often is VR refered to as 3/5 of GNR? No one cares than Matt was the 2nd drummer. The general public wants to see Axl + Slash together and will except any line up with those two as a legitimate GNR, with Duff as well the deal is sealed. They could use richard, gliby, or anyone else for a tour without any issue. Recording wise - well slash and izzy already had a CD or more of GNR songs ready to go a few years ago that never came to anything I think.
Absolutely. Hell, the wider world didn't really notice when Gilby replaced Izzy back in the day; only fanboys really notice who the rhythm guitarist is - even if he was probably the most important member of the band in terms of songwriting ability!
I've always said that bands usually have two iconic members, and nine times out of ten they're the frontman and the lead guitarist; Tyler/Perry, Mercury/May, Page/Plant, Axl/Slash, the brothers Gallagher and so forth (RHCP are a rare exception, where the frontman and the bassist are the key players). In the eyes of the general public, the ones who'll be buying the majority of the tickets, every other member of the band is disposable - however much the fans kick up a fuss.
As long as Axl and Slash (and, ideally, Duff) are up there, it's a "reunion" as far as the mainstream press and the ticket-buying public are concerned. If I were picking a "reunion" line-up, I'd go for a mix of old and new; Axl, Slash, Duff, Fortus, Frank* and Dizzy. Since Izzy dislikes touring, he could pop onto the stage for odd guest appearances, and contribute in a songwriting capacity.
*Just 'cause Matt's a complete douchebag, really.
'Course, it goes without saying that I'd rather see Axl's new GN'R sticking together, and Slash and Duff happy in VR (with Chester Bennington, in an ideal world!).

Okay, getting very excited at the prospect of Axl (with his 2008 voice/image) and Finck (minus the Goth togs and back in his Zep-style gear) hooking up with Bucket and Brain...

madagas wrote:anyone can play Finck's parts-ANYONE.
Oh I didn't mean he wasn't able.
BBF is VERY VERY good on guitar...believe me i've noticed!! He has some serious technique.
I ment more like...I wonder if he would agree to become fink live, and bucket return to do bucket's bit, or if he would consider this a demotion from his current position. I think he'd prob get more parts to play...but then not as show-off-fun as his current bits
So i ment more I wonder if the personalities involved allow for a BBF, Bucket, Fortus line up....bumble seems like a pretty easy going guy, so its possible...but then there were stories that bucket caused tension in the band last time wern't there? Or was that just cos robin was intimidated. (I know i would have been if bucket joined the band i was lead guitarist for!)
The thing is... the attraction of Robin's solos is their simplicity. BBF has an unfortunate tendency to add fretboard wankery to simple solos; compare his version of the first Nightrain solo with Bucket's more restrained, melodic version, for instance. I wouldn't want Ron wanking all over, for instance, Robin's sublime TWAT solo...

madagas wrote:I don't know if he is perfect for "Gnr"....but, he is perfect for Axl because he can do absolutely any type of music. It's pretty obvious Axl is all over the board so they are a good combo.
that plus he is noticeable and compelling,
yet on stage he doesn't get in axl's way,
he clearly destroys all of the leaks
and
he plays the old material well
that is just a couple reasons why he is perfect for gnr
He's also a very distinctive, iconic presence in the same way that Slash is. The mark of an icon is that you can recognise them by their silhouette, and you can certainly do that with both Slash and Buckethead...
