Axlin08 wrote:You also don't know what her history is. If she watched an abusive father, and has had abusive boyfriends in the past, she might've developed a complex that ALL men are like this, and this just comes with the territory.
This always perplexes me. I agree with you on it, but it's one of those things no matter how much I read it, or see it happen like this, just won't ever understand it. Never had a sister, so I'm not good with how chicks operate.
Heck I am a chick and I always don't get it myself. It's really hard to imagine it, but you have to remember these women usually have mental issues that lead them to make decisions a logical person wouldn't make.
I read a lot about domestic violence and it these women all seem to lack self-esteem and self-respect. Often these women feel like they are nothing without a man. They feel like they wouldn't be able to do any better. Some women have such low self-esteem that they feel that they deserve the abuse. The men are usually systematic in their abuse. They usually start out by being extremely controlling and even begin to isolate these women from their friends and family so that these women depend completely on them. They are verbally abusive to destroy the women's self-esteem and confidence and to make them feel like they would be nothing without the abusers. The abusive men are usually have Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde personalities. When everything is going good they are prince charming, but they also have this monstrous side to them. I think these women hold out hope that they can change and become prince charming full time. As Axlin08 pointed out some of these women also grow up in violent households so they grow up believing that abusive relationships are normal.
I actually have a friend that was in an abusive relationship. In fact she is almost 30 and has never been in a relationship with a good guy. She is an attractive women and a real sweet person, but she feels like she is worthless without a man. She just can't stay single. She looks in all the wrong places for men so she always end up with some sort of jerk/loser. She falls in love really fast and hard before she even gets to really know a man. She will hang onto a relationship as long as she can. It doesn't matter how big of a jerk or loser her man is because to her being with a man even if he is a jerk is better than being without a man. She refuses to listen to any advice and often makes up excuses for their jerky behavior. When her bad relationship finally ends (usally the guy breaks up with her) she just starts the cycle all over again. It boggles my mind.
As for Rihanna, I really didn't need any news article to tell me that this wasn't the first time she's been abused. The violence usually starts out smaller and then escalates. No way he would beat her that bad unless it was something he felt comfortable with. He has probably been abusive in previous relationships as well.

Bullshit dude.
Do you understand tone or inflection or sarcasm in the human voice?
The fuckin' guy was being a sarcastic, passive-aggressive asshole. I'm not dragging him down, it is what it is. Sometimes i'm a sarcastic asshole (rarely passive-aggressive). But at least I know when i'm doing it.
Slash had been overly critical, even talked shit (which was known then), then when the guy cuts his hand, he starts taking obvious jabs when he's backstage, and then when Axl has the guts to call him down on it, he suddenly starts back peddlin'.
He meant both of those comments to be sarcastic & passive-aggressive. It's obvious.
I guess it's just a difference in perception because I certainly don't hear a sarcastic tone in Slash's voice at all. His tone never changes from when he mentions a costume change and then mentioning Axl cutting his hand. I think he was stating what he believed to be true at that moment.
Slash does back down, but I think that is more to with him not being interested in a confrontation. He might be spineless in that sense, but I don't see how he was being sarcastic and passive-aggressive.

I personally feel we can write off CD as a 'very good album' from the fanbase of GN'R fans. We're who count. Not the media, not the general consumer. Us. You don't like that album, or are not that crazy about it. You're in the minority to be honest. Not minority as in the casual, but minority as in the diehard. Alot of the diehards love this album, and if I wasn't a GN'R fan, and had no clue who they were, and a diehard told me CD was a great, underrated album, even though all the mainstream info I was handed was "it sucks without Slash" or "it's a flop"... i'd be quicker to believe the diehard, who's truely a scholar of their catalog. Not that mainstream radio-phile, who just knows the hits.
My two cents.
I agree that someone who is just familiar with the hits wouldn't be the best resource when looking for information on a particular album, but I just can't agree with the notion that the diehard is somehow a more credible source. The diehard is already biased towards their favorite artist and is obviously a lot more likely to highly rate an album from their favorite artist than the average music fan would be. I am sure there are many Limp Bizkit diehards that praise their second album, but are they more credible than someone who checked it out because they liked the hits and discovered they didn't enjoy the album? I don't think so. So the fact that Axl/GNR diehards adore this album doesn't mean very much to me. Of course they like it because they are fans that are convinced Axl is a musical genius. I think it would've had to been a disaster of epic proportions for the diehards as a whole to dislike it. If this material was released by someone other than Axl/Guns would these same fans rank it as highly? Let's say CD was released by Fall Out Boy would all Guns fans calling it a masterpiece still feel that way? Probably not, yet the Fall Out Boy fans might consider it one.
That being said, I completely agree that the lack of mainstream success doesn't necessarily make it a poor album either. The Replacements were never really commercially successful, but some of their albums like Tim are highly regarded by critics and music aficionados alike. There are many more albums like Tim that don't quite have the commercial success, but receive their due recognition from the critics and fans. So for me this is an indication that the cream usually does rise to the top in one way or the other. CD received fairly positive reviews, but is this an album that is going to be remembered for the quality and not the legend? Is this album going to be considered an essential album to own? Is this album going to be in every music connoisseur's collection? Or will it simply be an album that only true diehards can appreciate?

Who cares? People get so butt hurt over opinions that don't fit their own.
#205 Re: Guns N' Roses » Whats the opinion people in your life have on CD? » 861 weeks ago
Only 1 person I know cared enough to give it a listen. He thinks it's good, but not great. As far as I know he hasn't purchased it yet.
#206 Re: Guns N' Roses » What affect did the leaks have on you? » 861 weeks ago
I was definitely burnt out on it although I never really listened to the leaks a ton with the exception of Better. I got caught up in the moment leading up to its release and I think that lead my review to be more positive than I'd write right now, but I only listened to it for 2 days before putting it down. I've only listened to it about 5 times since.
I do think the overall tone of the fanbase wouldn't be as negative because we'd be focusing more on the excitement of brand new songs rather than the lack of promotion.

The 2nd mygnr postings reinforce how prominent a figure Slash still is to Axl. Axl may be pissed at him, but he wouldn't have given him so much attention if it wasn't someone he held dear. The Slash "breakup" seems to weight heavier on him than any of his female breakups.
That's an interesting thought. I always felt he was more bitter towards Slash because Slash has survived the breakup and is a pretty well-liked figure in the public eye while Axl is more of a punchline.
#208 Re: Guns N' Roses » Axl Rose/Dexter forum chat discussion thread » 862 weeks ago
^ very true.
And without laying more blame on Axl for his mental issues, isn't some of the reason Duff and Slash were so trashed all the time is because they were trying to pass time while they sat around and waited for Axl to get his shit together?
And looking back over what Axl wrote, it just seems more than anything, that there was a lack of good communication between them all.
Surely if Axl said, hey guys "going on late is the only way I can perform and when I feel most comfortable on stage" do you think they might not have gotten so pissed at sitting around waiting for him?And with allot of the other stuff he brings up, it sounds like they just needed to get in the one room and talk to each other, because allot of it ended up being "he said this", and "he said that" and ultimately that turned them against him.
I agree that a lack of communication probably was the root of a lot of problems, but in regards to the going on late issue, I am not sure that would have changed their minds. Axl explained himself without sounding like an asshole, but at the end of the day he's still just being selfish. He should just suck it up and do his job instead of making everyone else wait so he can feel comfortable.

We've asked for his side, and he gives it to us. Don't shit on him for what we wanted. We as a community, maybe not you particularly, but we all wanted to hear from him. We got it.
It's not shitting on him to question his version of things. I commend him for interacting with the fans. I think he comes across as a very likeable and a fairly sincere guy, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't be able to question if his side of events is the ultimate truth. I have no doubt that he believes it happened that way, but I don't believe it did. I also thought his story on My World was laughable.
Other than that I think he has done himself a huge favor to put his side of things out there. If only he had done it long ago. I think it would have cut through most of the BS.
#210 Re: Guns N' Roses » AXL Posting on GNR Forums! » 863 weeks ago
I don't think anyone should expect him to do it again, but another prolonged period of silence and inactivity by him and the band would certainly be met by negativity. Even if the band is inactive I think it would go a long way to mend the bridge with the fans if he occasionally popped in for a few minutes or so.
