The Slash/Duff reworked versions of The General and Monsters have yet to leak. And that's because AXL has those tightly locked under lock and key because the vinyl release is set for December of this year.
So is it confirmed the demo is Bucket/Robin? I thought that it was from the Vinyl release.
I hear a bit of Slash in Monsters. I’m not one to know the differences in guitar styles to be fair.
it's not officially confirmed because AXL and TB don't roll that way. And neither do any members of the band past or present. I'm basing it on the General and Monsters on the vinyl will sound completely different and will be completely reworked from what you hear on the demos. The AXL vocals will sound completely different on the vinyl because it'll be new vocals like it was for the Perhaps release. The guitars will have different sounds because the Slash sound is different from the Robin/Bucket sounds. You hear the difference between them on Hard Skool and Absurd. That's the difference you'll hear on the official The General/Monsters vinyl.
what are you talking about
the perhaps vocals are exactly the same, they just put more reverb on the slash version
Also Monsters to me sounds like slash and duff
it sounds like stuff they did in VR
I mean the bass in Monsters sounds a lot like slither
IF it is Tommy on Monsters, it is pretty ironic he wrote the bass to slither before Duff did lol
It will also be irnoic if that is not slash on Monsters since I said its slashs best work on these CD era left over songs when I am not a fan of his work on the other songs

In a perfect (normal) world...Slash, Duff, or preferably Axl would log into Twitter, acknowledge the leak, and give a brief synopsis of the track(s) and how it went down.
It would be so easy to do this.
It's the only fan base that has to debate which band members are on songs.
Not kicking a gift horse in the mouth...a leak is a leak...but getting information along with the music would work wonders.
Without any bashing, intentional or otherwise, I will express this opinion - keeping in mind its my own only and based upon MY observations re: this band.
As long as TB is 'running the show' so to speak, what you've suggested above has about a -3278% chance of happening, give or take.
One can only hope things change on that information flow front.. but I have my doubts.
Yeah I've been complaining about their incompetence for years. Every single thing they do gets screwed up somehow.
Imagine how amazing all of this could've been with real managers steering the ship.
Shacklermyrye wrote:It's soul monster, they were always 2 diff songs and no strings part was an interlude
Yep...that seals it.
2 songs that got worked on and painted over so many times, Beltrami himself barely recognized them.
Kinda insane when you think about it.
Haven't read mygnr yet today. Some of those guys must be shitting bricks over their "It's one epic song and if you believe otherwise you're a moron!" theory.
Well here is the thing, the general still could be an epic song but Axl cut it down for the slash and duff version
I could see Axl cuttng a long intro and outtro and all the BH solos in it
HE kinda did that with Hard school

from 3:35 to 4:33 I hear Robin on Monsters
from 3:46 to 4:19 I hear Robin on The General
Robin is on perhaps for like three notes lol

Shacklermyrye wrote:Credit to D.. from MYGNR Beltrami got back to him, this is a quite revealing post, they were always different songs
Marco Beltrami was kind enough to answer me a second time, can't believe he's so kind and took the time, what a great guy! Sadly he doesn't remember Monsters former name. He does remember a song being quite long but unsure if it was The General or another one. But if it was, it's not The General we have, as apparently there was a longer song he worked on (but he's unsure whether that long song was The General back then, maybe it's Seven or another one we haven't heard).
Just to be clear, he did listen to the leaks, I wanted to make sure he understood and could compare with what he remembers, and what we have has been modified from when he worked on those, so I guess it's hard for him to properly remember specific former names. But he does recognize those two songs & his work, and they weren't a single song back then (just like we have a hard time understanding how they could form a single song, as it is). The instrumental part isn't meant to form a continuity between this version of The General, and this version of Monsters, both instrumental were specific creations of his. Each 8 songs he's worked on/arranged had a specific arrangement meant for a particular song.
So it almost confirms for me that Monsters is indeed Soul Monster. And 100% confirms that those "The General" and "Monsters" we have are different songs.
I hope this clarifies things for everyone, now I can only hope Axl will someday clarify more things for us, and 100% confirm this is Soul Monster.
Can't wait for December 8th. Considering the credits things stating "The General and Monsters" as a single song, not everyone agreeing it's Slash & Duff on both songs, we might be in for more surprises! In "worst case scenario", we'll have a better mix/audio quality.
Oh wow that’s awesome. That kills my idea they were meant to bleed into each other
8 SONGS??
Well when Marco worked on them they were two songs but Axl could have said oh i wll make these two songs into one after Marco left the project.
Axl loves to frankenstein things together.

So does everyone think we're getting both songs in December?
I think it will be combined one song
I still think the leaker broke up the songs to make it easier to upload and download
Even if they are really just one track, I will still listen to them seperate bc iMO they work better as two songs than one

Yup just say something like oh these are cuts from the older band or these are the current band but not the final mix

TIL probably took the place of Atlas on CD because Finck lobbied hard to get it on the album. Catcher might be the culprit also cuz I don’t think it was ever intended for CD until it leaked, and the tracklist was very influenced by the leaks
Bingo! While I enjoyed every second of the leaks, ultimately they hurt the album in terms of track listing. I'm in the same boat as James. The songs we got from the village sessions and now these tasty little treats, are exactly what I was expecting from Chinese as an album. I love the UYI3 style songs. They are great tracks. But these SOG ,Monsters, General, and all of the voxless instrumental type tracks turn me on something fierce. I think if Axl just would have gotten his rocks off with a solo project we could have had the best of both worlds. We would have that trip-hop/experimental material on Axl's project and then the hardskools and twats on the guns record.
Either way I'm giddy to have so many vintage usernames pop back up into the discussion. Even some of the known "hoarders" are at least participating in the conversations about these new tracks. I think at this point in time, even the hoarders are starting to show some empathy towards getting closure to the Chinese era for the fan base.
They should just leak everything out at this point.

Im sure the BH/Robins solos are differnet so they could be better.

From O Globo, Axl interview, Jan 2001
"With 18 songs, the group's next album (they haven't released anything since 1993's "The Spaghetti Incident?") is a collection of songs, which in Axl's opinion are as good as "November Rain". Among them "Madagascar", included in the show on Sunday. The CD will include a tribute to John Lennon and another about child abuse"
So I'm guessing Monsters/Soul Monster(?) was written pre 2001
Also, could Elvis and the Monster of Soul be Me and my Elvis, and Soul Monster as one song. I don't know if that works
I'd say The General is the one about child abuse. I always thought it didn't have vocals at that time because when Belltrami worked on it in October of 02 it was an instrumental, but the song being about abuse & being mentioned in January of 01 suggests that it may have had lyrics at that point after all.
Maybe he just had not recorded them yet, or maybe they were already done and he just chose to take the instrumentals to Beltrami. Either way this points to the song existing in the year 2000, which is 2 years earlier than we had proof of before.
Cool. It sounds like 18 songs were done, or existed in some way at this point. I suppose if Brain joined in late 2000, that's a quick turnaround for a song.
I was actually going back to look at Oklahoma. There were sessions in 95/96, then it sounds like Axl did no more vocals until Youth joined in 98/99, then Dave Dominguez came, short stay, then Sean Beavan. There was mention somewhere that pre-CD songs will get carried forward, so I'm just interested in that sense
Appetite for Distortion did an interview with Sean Beavan, and I think he said when he left not many vocals were done at that point.

I remain unconvinced these are newer versions with Slash and Duff - sounds distinctly nu-guns to me
Monsters music sounds like VR stuff, the bass is just like slither.
