I think the media treats Axl respectfully for what a cunt he behaves like.
I read many positive reviews of the album for the music. Many more than I expected to see and read.
I was a huge fan of this guy, put up with petulent shit back in the day, grew up myself, and realized, "Axl IS a pussy." It's not the media, it's not old band members. It's him. And it's indisputable.
There's people who take no responsibility for their actions, place people on pedestals, kick them off the pedestal, claim their daddy touched them, etc.
They either end up in jail or go through lives as victims.
They are called "Borderline Personalities", and they are generally women.
We've all dated these bitches from hell, or at least had some kinky sex with them to the point that they think we are dating.
Axl's behavior and silence is right in line with this. He thinks he's punishing us right now, but in reality, we lost interest a long time ago.

An interesting aspect to this is the apathy the hardcores are starting to have(myself included) to the whole saga.
I don't love them or hate them, I'm just disinterested in any excuses for the showing of CD, Axl's disappearance, etc.
"This" version of GnR will never return anywhere near to the top again, and that is okay, as artistic merit isn't measure by sales or Macarena would be the greatest song ever recorded.
This is Axl vision, except I think he thought it would turn out better.
This CD is headed for the bargain bin, and others he makes will end up there as well.

I think that this would be foolish on Guns part.
They did this back in the day, I saw it, and Metallica destroyed them and Axl's attempt to rip-off the Stones with 43 different members of the band doing flute solos and whatnot.
Metallica and Faith No More brought the huge butthurt to GNR's overpolished show.
I recommend a GNR start bringing the heavy back, or they might be opening up for John Tesh or Josh Grobin.
And yes, grow musically and all that, but for god sakes, no one wants to see Zig Zag's harmonica solo while Axl changes into a red jacket.

I'm sorry, I don't consider Bucket to be Slash's replacement, as lead guitarist.
I consider Bucket an addition that definitely brought something to the table.
Had Bucket and only Bucket been up there shredding, COOL! He brought an element to GnR that wasn't there before. I'm surprised Finck wasn't wearing a top hat and a curly wig while he pooped out those awful licks.
Finck had no business being any where near a stage, nor soloing on a stage with Bucket around.
That's what I meant about worst case scenario, you have a talent like Bucket, but a HACK like Finck is getting solos and looks like an weirdo to boot.

I think I've cracked the nut that is Axl/TheBreakup/NuGuns saga.
It's a scientific theory, we can even call it Bailey's Code.
Whatever worst case scenario one can dream up, the reality with be worse than that.
For example:
(Imagine Worst Case Scenario) Slash will be replaced by a new lead guitarist who won't be able to fill his shoes.
(Reality)The new lead guitarist will play incredibly out of tune, wear a trash bag, and have half of shaved head, and waste valuable Rock In Rio set time playing some song no one cares about, while Axl takes a dump.
