Such negativity on here.
Don't you guys realise we are only 4 years away from the AFD 40th Anniversary Box Set?

I believe a lot of these things are perspective.
Record labels are ruthless commercial entities. Artists are reactionary emotional types. Both want to exploit the other on some level.
It's easy for that kinda shit to go bad.
So in theory if Axl asks for something extreme next year and the label says no - should we blame Axl for being over the top or the label for being cheap? What if Axl then says its that or nothing? What if the label says it's their way or nothing? When things get ugly it can be hard to work out who is really blocking what. It's probably failures to compromise on both sides.
As for the songs I see the point that it's always the same suspects that seem to leak/beworked on/be remixed etc. But then again...maybe Axl is just doing stuff in some type of order. Who knows. There's a few people involved who said there's significant material left, so i suspect there is quite a bit. What state of progress it is at who knows - and what genres etc.

I think the fact we already got 2 songs is a major point to consider. In the CD era it was all talk with nothing ever to show for it. This time they said they were going to release some stuff and fairly promptly did so. With songs already completed and ready to go, why should he refuse to release them? He must have known Silk Worms reworked would never become a big hit with the fanbase, but he did it anyway, so I doubt it has anything to do with the reception. But probably they were dissatisfied with the financial returns on the first GN'R songs with "the old lineup" in 30 years hitting the market. There must be something more to gain from that right?
If something happens this summer it will be something more substantial than a pair of songs, and with a significant promotional push. I see all the remaining CD songs being packaged, and to make it a full dish maybe a couple of new ones as well.
That theory makes a lot of sense.
Like the 2 songs was a test to see what happens going it alone without a label push. It livened up the hardcore cans but didn't set the casuals on fire.
If they are dissatisfied with the result the smart thing to do would be package the rest into an EP or Album and give it a more traditional push with a bang Ac/Dc style. The work is mostly done, and it would be really easy to do a remix better or one of the songs they play a bit different live if they need to pad it out without requiring a lot more vocals from Axl.
Then you could base a whole new cycle of a tour around that.
Alternatively, maybe he just wants to get stuff out casually and doesn't care how it goes in which case continuing on with the drip feed to spice up the tours for us hardcores will work. Either way I feel like eventually we will at least hear what else they recorded when they did Absurd etc.

I see what you guys mean.
I just mean like a vague comment like a 'maybe after the next tour we'll see about writing a new record' means nothing to me as like 95% chance it doesn't happen in that timeframe...but I feel this stuff is a bit more concrete because they are songs we know already exist.
Like we all got the leaks of State of Grace / Atlas / Perhaps / Absurd and Hardschool with mostly complete vocals.
Then they remade Absurd and Hardschool - Slash says they did some more at the same time - so it's a better than average chance to me the ones they did with them were those other songs we know to have had lyrics from the same era.
I mean it's GNR, they might sit on them for another 2 decades (they are from 1999 after all lol) but then - given they're all finished up they seem more likely to come out than some sort of hypothetical brand new album project.
As for the special guest. My guess is maybe Angus?

I would believe we might get the next 2 songs. Like didn't slash say they did a handful around the time they did Absurd/Hardschool?

It makes you wonder.
I think Axl is around about the same age Brian Johnson was when Ac/Dc dropped Black Ice.
They pulled that off, and then subsequently poor Malcom was hospitalised and then died. As we know Rock or Bust had it's own dramas.
I could see GNR doing a fairwell album and one more cycle at some stage, but realistically we may be close to semi-retirement.
I would like to see at least the rest of the Slash-redone leaks comeout, if they wanna do more I'd love to see a re-dux version of CD with Slash or Duff rearranging the songs the way they did live too. As for a fully new album - who knows what Axl has lying around to finish. But we're starting to hit a point where his voice is struggling, and who knows when Slash will slow down. So i hope they get started soon lol.

It kinda makes sense to me.
Like everyone watches the 100m during the olympics.
The following year only the real track fans are watching the races.
GNR is such an important band in the scheme of the 80s and 90s that them reuniting was a public event for casuals, but once that's done, they can go back to their lives and the audience will transition to a smaller group.
I hope they drop an EP sooner or later to renew things. But there is a risk they just transition to rarer tours and festival shows especially as they get older.
#218 Re: Guns N' Roses » If GNR releases nothing in 2023, is this the end for you? » 116 weeks ago
I agree with you guys.
But then Axl seems a changeable guy. In the same way he went from hermit to everywhere in 2006 for brief period I wouldn't entirely rule out him just waking up one day and deciding he needs to release 4 records that month or something perviously impossible too.
Like how we went from inactive GNR to a reunion tour and Axl fronting Ac/Dc as well out of nowhere.
I'm not saying I expect it to happen or it will happen or anything, but it does seem like when it rains it pours with him.
#219 Re: Guns N' Roses » If GNR releases nothing in 2023, is this the end for you? » 116 weeks ago
Logically we should het the rest of the leaks that had vocals.
So Atlas, Perhaps, some version of State of Grace, and maybe even Eye on You retooled.
But then it's GNR so who knows. lol.
#220 Re: Guns N' Roses » Slash/Myles » 116 weeks ago
I'm not sure.
Myles is one of the most easy going people in rock, so you could imagine it going forever without any drama amongst the bandmates.
On the other hand, creatively I wonder if it's diminishing returns. I was a huge fan of their first few outings, but I felt the more recent records were somewhat repetitive.
I thought the project worked best when slash wasn't in GNR - then he could play their originals mixed with GNR/VR/Snakepit to be like a personal slash-best-of show. Now he is back with GNR it puts a lot of pressure on their original content.
Myles is also 53 so you have to wonder at what age the punishing vocal range gets tiresome or he just gets sick of the road. But assuming Myles is good to go, I'd imagine Slash doing stadiums with GNR and smaller shows for kicks with Myles until we all get old.
A part of me wishes he would go in a new direction though. I loved GNR, I loved Snakepit, i loved VR, I loved Conspirators...but the last few records...I dunno maybe i'm just getting too old but it just didn't seem as inspired as the first stuff they did.
