The only band I can think of that has some wacky stuff happen in its communities that even comes close to this is KISS.

What do your people say about this one?

The big debate since the leak is 'Soul Monster or not?"

It seems logical...but not everything is logical in the world of GNR.

Just to be clear..outside of rampant speculation and some logical extrapolation I don't know anything about this one.

I think the key here is to figure out why these were broken into two files and..more importantly.. why The General seems to have been tinkered with or modified in some manner before we got it.. intentional? No clue but it definitely seems like..of the two.. to have some continuity / flow issues that strike me more as an amateur error or intentional decision rather than a professional one.

I struggle to be convinced these are vinyl rips because..unless ripped from a very high quality vinyl setup they seem to be missing some telltale vinyl rip signs.. again it's impossible to know for sure though as.. at the moment we have way too many variables and just not enough data to lock them down.

One thing I am convinced of.. this isnt AI as I have seen suggested. Unless it's taken a generational leap in the last couple weeks I'm not aware of and I do run in those circles.

Im sure we will learn more soon one way or another.. my guess is probably not from any 'official' channels first though because..well...GNR.

I dont think the general was tinkered with. Remember the whole reason why the 7' was delayed is because the band was not happy with the mix. What is wrong with the general in its current state, the mix is shit.  So if I had to guess, I would say the general we have is probably what would have been on the 7' and when they heard the final pressing they were not happy.

But the only thing with that is, like you said why dont we hear any hissing or pops something we would probaby hear if these were ripped from a record

Like most every other detail surrounding GNR, this leak is just 'weird'.. for a multitude of reasons. I'm a firm believer that the truth surrounding the details will get out there eventually so.. it is what it is.

For the record, I will say this - I f'n love "Monsters" (or wtfever its called...regardless, my sentiment remains)

When do we get our HULU miniseries? They make one for everything nowadays.

Not soon enough.. I tell people all the time if you tried to write a book about all this stuff the publishers would be like "Umm, that's too far out there, even for us, and all we publish is alternative history science fiction based on mankind having developed in the hollow core of the Earth with cool dinosaur pets and stuff"

What I think amazes me the most is IT KEEPS HAPPENING at some level.. I wrack my brain and I just can't think of any band where you can say that, other than GNR.

That is because other bands dont have a house keeper and pool boy running the band lol

the bass sounds like slither

so if that is tommy from 1999 and not duff its crazy how tommy came up with a slither sounding bass line back then.

Yeah i meant it sounds like Duff but I hear at least some Finck in guitars. Which isn’t far-fetched based on the Perhaps solo fiasco.

yeah to me Monsters sounds like Duff like what he did in VR like on Slither.
What I mean about Tommy is, if that is not Duff on bass and its a demo from the CD sessions and its Tommy on bass, its crazy how Tommy came up with the slither bass lines before Duff

Good point on how Slash/Duff have to sign off on everything.

Agree that it's time to move on. I think they're about to and that's why we're now getting these mythical songs.

They know which songs the fans have wanted for decades. One more batch would essentially wrap it up.

Do one more drip feed, have GNR management address the issue with hardcore fans telling them the CD saga is over and a new chapter has begun, and they'll see a lot of the negativity go away.

They don't have to release the rest of the material to please 99% of the hardcore base. Just the main songs.

Atlas
Oklahoma
Seven

Boom... Chinese over.

Just put all the extra CD left over songs that have vocals on the CD anniversary addition and then they can move on
its really simple

I dont think its that simple. It should be but when $$$ is involved, concessions need to be made and or negotiated.

The problem with anything new gnr related is $$$. Writing credits and touring will all lead to the old lineup. To much red tape for new gnr to have a run in any capacity. The only thing I can maybe see is some sort of box set of the CD era that Slash and Duff sign off on and  throw Axl and company a bone. Even that can potentially undermine the current band if the versions with Bucket and Finck blow away the reworked songs.

Its time for Axl to move on from that era anyway since it doesn't have a future. Pick a few more songs for Slash to work on and release them. It's time to start focusing on new material with the current lineup.

agreed.

Compile all the new songs and a couple more and release it as an album. No promo is necessary. They are all taking a break after this tour doing their own thing.  Solid holdover until the next fresh album which will take a few yrs to make and promote.

yeah
Axl should just do a solo album and put it on that

Anyone have a link, still haven't heard it yet?

And is the consensus that The General is an older version?

No one is 100% sure

It does not sound like Slash yet the Monsters part does

Also its weird how the vocal mix is shit on The General and the reason why the record got delayed is bc they were not happy with the mix

I think these two versions are probably what we will be getting

The combination of the three, add Izzy contributions and there we'll find the Big guns and the Magic

I want them too but I want everything lol. All versions of all songs. I mean if you line up the cell clip with that Monsters leak the differences are huge. There are structure changes and along with the guitars being different parts like the drum roll before the heavy section have been removed completely.

yeah I remember hearing back in the day the general had some crazy brain drumming on it, none of that is here, its all been removed.

I really want to hear that 2002 version of these songs.

Going Down is barely a wart on the ass of Dust N Bones/14 Years/So Fine.

I know the final version will be better. I'm sure.
But i have the perception that these songs, including perhaps, state of grace, Atlas etc are leftovers... Worse level than CD songs.
If this is the case, please leave them

Yes they're leftovers...but leave them?

It's all we're going to get! The fan base has hung in all these years for the final big guns.

If they leave them, you'll see an immediate exodus from these forums... including yourself.

Izzy must be busy doing donuts around his house with a dirt bike.

Seriously, what is this guy up to? Seems he is not married and he hasn't released a solo album since 2010.

The Not In This Lifetime tours have been a never ending commercial for AFD and GH.

He's swimming in royalties from the past 7 years.

Goin down is just a gorilla village head left over
Its a good tommy solo song but not a good GNR song

The sad thing in all of this is the best stuff is those instrumentals and we dont even know if Axl put lyrics to them.
And even if he did would they even be that good of lyrics.

You could make a great album with

Zodiac
Quick Song
Rebel
Oklahoma
Me & My Elvis
Mustache
Tonto
Real Doll
Prom
