BUMBLEFOOT Says Waiting For A New GUNS N' ROSES Album To Get Done Is 'Just Too Much' - Feb. 7, 2013
Steve Mascord of Hot Metal recently conducted an interview with GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
On GUNS N' ROSES' plans for the follow-up for 2008's "Chinese Democracy":
Thal: "There's been talk all the time within us about the next album and what we're going to do and when we're going to do it. But, you know, life always gets in the way. Things get in the way. It's hard to have the momentum and the focus and everything that you need. It's hard to put everything aside and do a whole album.
"Personally, I don't want to do an album. I would like to just do a song. Let's just bite off a song and get a song out there and then bite off another song and get that out there. It's easier to do.
"Look, waiting for an album to get done is just too much. I can't do it myself. If I waited to finish an album, it still wouldn't be done and the album still wouldn't be out.
"When there's so much touring and so much other stuff going on, don't try and take on 14 songs. Do a song, then another song, then another song and then figure it out from there."
On singer Axl Rose's decision to skip GUNS N' ROSES' April 2012 induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame:
Thal: "Honestly, we tried to work it out with the Hall Of Fame to come up with something but they had it in their mind that it was their way or no way. So they wouldn't budge and they were just trying to force a situation that wasn't good for everybody. We wanted it to be good for everybody. So…
"A lot of people should be in there that aren't. DEEP PURPLE isn't in there. That's a fucking travesty…"
On allegations that when GUNS N' ROSES played Townsville on December 1, 2010 that Rose had been "caught" lip-syncing, with local television sneaking into the venue and filming the performance:
Thal: "I assure you, everything Axl sings is real, everything I play is real, everything I sing is real. Trust me, we fuck up enough that you know it's real."
On GUNS N' ROSES' concert tardiness:
Thal: "You know what? When you're waiting, I'm waiting too. I don't want to wait fucking three hours to get on stage. I want to give you guys a show and I want you to be happy. But, hey, it's out of my control."
On reports in India that GUNS N' ROSES bassist Tommy Stinson had lost his temper on stage during an encore performance of ROSE TATTOO's "Nice Boys (Don't Play Rock'n'Roll)" in Gurgaon in December 12:
Thal: "It wasn't that. What happened was, we did our bow and we were walking off stage and we said, 'Let's do some more.' They were already packing up the gear and shutting everything down. So they first had to fire up everything all over again and half the shit was away so we started playing with half our gear and finally it was just like, 'You know what? Fuck it.' Some shit wouldn't go on, we're re-connecting cables, so the crew was going crazy trying to get it all done and it was just another moment in the history of the band."

Fair play Ron, say it how it is. Why not release a track at a time? I'd take that!

Twelve years ago I had a bad break up with a super hot girl I'd been with for four years.
She could be a giant pain in the ass and my friends often hated her BUT we had some great times, freaky sex, some terrible arguments and some unforgettable tender moments. We are both married to other people and are happy.
Do I wish her the best? YES.
Do I want to meet her at some party, wedding etc with my wife in tow? HELL NO.Would I take her back? HELL NO.
Slash just described the exact same situation with Axl..
There is no revisionist, media manipulation, machiavellian masterplan that some of you insist on trying to attach to Slash.
Its just a guy whose opinion and feelings about someone and something have changed over the years. He's not thinking about that process as much as we the nutso GNR fans do.
He's just talking on a particular day and time.
He's not keeping all of his interviews on a forum somewhere so he can check that he keeps his story WATERTIGHT like some of you imagine he should.
Some perspective here would be good.
This...... totally.

Well, you know, they both talk a lot of shit. I don't really take much notice, but the bit Slash said, where he said he "wasn't disappointed, more relieved" I just thought that I can understand that.
He may be lying in that he was actually disappointed, to a certain extent Axl turning up would have been a chance for some reconciliation, or history making reunion, or a fight. But who cares now? I don't. Me? If I were Slash, I would have just been relieved in the end.

Ronan McGreevy of The Irish Times recently conducted an interview with legendary guitarist Slash (GUNS N' ROSES, VELVET REVOLVER). A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
The Irish Times: How did you feel about GUNS N' ROSES being inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame and Axl Rose [vocals] not showing up?
Slash: I wasn't disappointed. I was more relieved at the time because prior to that it was such a negative subject. At one point I thought, if we all show up, then what? When he said he wasn't coming, I thought, "Good, at least I can do something." Duff [McKagan, bass] and I spoke and we rehearsed what we did together. That in itself was a good thing.
The Irish Times: Do you think his non-appearance finally put to bed the expectations that the original GUNS N' ROSES lineup would ever reform?
Slash: I think more than anything it put it to bed for Steven Adler [original GUNS N' ROSES drummer]. He was trying the hardest to make it happen because he missed a lot of it. He was finally resigned to the idea that it was never going to happen. I knew in my heart it was never going to happen because I left the band in the early 1990s. I have never really had any expectations since then.
The Irish Times: Do you feel any resentment towards the GUNS N' ROSES who are touring the world at the moment?
Slash: No, I just want to get on with what I'm doing. It's been a long time. I'm really happy that Axl seems to be happy. He's probably at the same place that I'm at. Whether he calls it GUNS or something else I don't care. I signed that name away a long time ago.

I would have certainly been relieved Axl announced he wasn't going to show too, like "Ah, now we know we dont have to deal with anything that awkward, lets just go out and play some tunes". Can't blame him for that.

She wrote letters and emails to Bret Michaels too. Now that says it all!
#226 Re: Guns N' Roses » Guns N' Roses Vs. The Beatles » 647 weeks ago
Yeah you two are right. Gnrevolution is one hell of a collection of people, the range of taste on here covers all of rock and roll full stop.
And as far as guilty pleasures go.. I like the beautiful south, def leppard and meatloaf. I also like "ten" a little known melodic rock band that really are a pile of cheese but now and then release a gem like this:I mean look at that album cover, and that corny synth in the background. I know that they are pure chesse but I can't help but love that song so much.
Thank you for that track from Ten, just from looking at the artwork I had to listen, awesome tune. I'm gonna have to check out some more from them!
Cheers!
Yeah, VH, not my cuppa, nor AC/DC. Whitesnake though, awesome. This thread has been fun to read.
Beatles vs GnR, for me its GnR, although I love The Beatles. Rush though....I do love my prog, but for some reason they just dont do it for me.
That guilty pleasures thread should be resurrected.

"He lets us write our own solo's and everything!"
Now that is a laughable comment. Thing is, if it was said in irony, that would be well funny, but he's saying it straight, poor chap.

Awesome post Intercourse, put like that, its easy to see what a ball-ache it could be for Slash / Duff even if it was on the table from Team Brazil.
And it's not like either of those two need the money.

Gonna call the FBI? Nah, I'll call Riad, he'll work it out.....

Whoop, something to ponder on other than Axl's odd looking forehead.
:-)
Whatever that is Gibbo, sounds kinda interesting. Oh the possibilities!
