Ground control (grnd_crtl..or whatever) runs the sites and backends for several bands. So when you signed up, you signed up for those, too. Who knows what modules GNR wants on their site - that kind of login info would work for blog comments, or 'attending' events, or event reviews, all kinds of stuff. Forum is probably the least likely thing.

Well, opinions can change.
Also - they've been doing..meet and greets all this tour, with who knows what criteria (sometimes it seems random, but in other cases, forum friends like Russ get in ) without charging anything extra. They still meet and greet sometimes without the stickers wherever people find them, sometimes. So what if they make a way to 'gauntnee' a meet and greet at the shows, I'd suspect they'd still be having people invited adhoc, and not turn you away if you find them by the bus because you didn't hand over a Benjamin.

Edit: Also, I'd gladly pay extra.

Russ- you went to the old url (which included a .web subdomain and .jsp serving the page)... the DNS records have been updated now, so http://www.gunsnroses.com will take you to the new placeholder site. It's not serving up 404s, you just went to a now outdated bookmark.

But "what do they want"?
I don't want them playing anything together. It's bound to be out of practice and disappointing.
