the only way he blamed Merck was saying that Merck gave him the impression that the album coming out in 2006 was an attainable goal.

I totally agree with you. I mean, there's no way not to. That just isn't the way things went down. But remember the point people are making in this thread. This book is Slash's recollection of the events. If he really wanted to, I'm sure he could watch all sorts of footage that we'll probably never get to see and correct a ton of the book, but it's just written from memory.
still sucks that some people will read shit like that and pass it off as fact. from the video footage it looks like Slash was behind Axl 100% in leaving the gig.
and i do know most of the people who don't think stuff like that is a big deal, "its just slash's recollection, not meant to be a history of GnR or anything"... if that account of the event had been written in a book written by someone other than Slash, they would be agreeing too.
I thought his reasoning for writing the book was "setting the record straight" .. its impossible to take seriously, IMO.

I just can't take it seriously when there is completely innaccurate shit in it like this (thanks to jarmo for transcribing)
"When he jumped down, it was great, we kept playing that suspenseful riff that starts off "Rocket Queen," and I thought the whole moment was killer. When Axl got back onstage, everything felt triumphant for a second... then he grabbed the mike, said something like, "Because of the bullshit security, we're going home," slammed the mike down, and walked offstage.
The band kept going. We'd gotten good at improvising to fill dead space - drum solos, guitar solos jams - we had a bag of tricks to keep things moving whenever Axl made a sudden exit. We kept jamming, and I went over to the side of the stage.
"Where is he? I asked Doug.
He looked at me with a pained expression. "He's not coming back."
"What do you mean he's not coming back?" I shouted, still playing the riff.
"There is no way he is coming back," Doug said. "There is nothing I can do."
We were about ninety minutes into our set, which was our minimum contractually, but the plan was to play a two-hour ser and the crowd wasn't close to satisfied. They knew there was a lot more left. I would have done anything to get Axl back onstage at that point.
"Ask him again!" I yelled. "Find out if he's really not going to." I should have known by Doug's expression that there was no use.
Once it was final, we had no choice: the band put down our gear, and it was like pulling the plug on the stereo - the song just ended on a question mark. That entire arena sat there expecting something to happen, but instead we walked offstage without a word."
Anyone could watch the footage and see that this is nonsense:

yet people will read this and take it as the "truth"

Ever seen Sebastian live? I'd much rather go to one of his shows and watch him do his thing than see some 60 year old farts have a heart attack on stage.
That's just retarded. Its Led fucking Zeppelin. And judging by the boots those "old farts" can still rock the fuck out.
i've never been a huge Zeppelin fan tho dude. they had some good songs and all, but I think it would have been better left back in the 70s.

i'm doing my best to ignore this thread until i read the book
how is the book btw? its on my wish list
I haven't read it either.. from what I can see, its full of inaccurate info. Even Duff made a comment.

I hope I can at least see the band sometime in the next year. The album would be nice, but I'm jus chillin on that idea until theres actually a release date.

I wouldn't say they have had recognition as such from Axl/GNR - I would call it more a business decision by Axl.
he was also mentioned at a show in 2002.
I also recognise that both the old band members/VR and the way the current incarnation of GN'R is being run isn't perfect. Therefore I like to be able to objectively discuss both sides - but the outward hostility towards people over there that dare question Axl pretty much prevents it. I don't mean people that just repeatedly wanna whinge and bash him coz that's pointless, but the guy is not mother theresa either and the GN'R ship hasn't exactly been skippered all that well either, but it doesn't seem you can have an unbiased healthy discussion about it.
you just have to take it for what it is - a site to support Guns N' Roses. Its not a Velvet Revolver fan site. Jus like I wouldn't go to VelvetRevolverForum.Com everyday to tell them how bad I think Scott is with VR and how much those guys need Axl. I really appreciate Jarmo's position on that whole thing over there.. because you have a huge site like MyGnR which is pretty much a Axl hatefest/Slash temple.

So what about the other arguments in my post? Don't they disturb you? Are they not true?
as far as editing posts? I've never seen anything like that. They delete posts, but I think they are just trying to keep a little bit of order. I've never been upset at the few topics Jarmo chooses to not have discussed on that board.
