It does remind me of the george lucas situation where the technology of the 1997 Starwars is better - space ship compositing etc - but the creative choices may not be - Han shooting last etc.

It's a bit like that - the sound quality here is awesome, and the full orchestra is beautiful - but the mixing choices of which instruments to highlight at certain parts may not be.

Even though the new version sounds better in some ways, I actually think the outro section the creatives choices of the 1991 version are superior. I really wish they'd given us both. I guess we have the old version at least - but I would have liked a remaster of it as well.

This, exactly. I have no objection to the new version, it's perfectly good. I don't like the fact that it means a remixed/remastered version of the original track isn't included on the release. Why couldn't we have both?

I like the new version of November Rain, but I kind of wish they'd included it as an extra rather than "overwriting" the original version. I'd like a remastered version of the original track, synths and all; this feels like rewriting history in a way, pretending that the full-orchestra version is the "canonical" one. It diminishes the work that Axl put in on the original track creating the synth orchestra.

I just listened to Hard School and the demo of it back to back, and I don't feel that way.

Talent is a rare thing in music, and these guys while good players are hired guns for a reason. The music on that song is a goddamn mess. Slash comes in, feels the essence and whips out something much better in no time at all.

As much as I like the intro on the demo, it does tickle me that Slash and Duff went in, hacked that minute of ambient guitar noodling out and had the song just pile in with a bass/guitar riff and cut straight to the verse.

I don’t understand Scott’s beef with Matt. Matt always sang backing vocals at VR shows, right from the beginning. I thought he added some really nice harmonies when he did it too. I think Scott was just getting paranoid towards the end of their run.

As for the vocals, while it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, I don’t think they are terrible by any means. Matt even said that he was trying to channel Lemmy with his voice, after Lemmy heard the demo and said he wanted to sing on the track.

I also feel like with the VR split, these songs are just sitting around gathering dust, because everyone else moved on and has no intention of revisiting this stuff. So if Matt wants to put them out, good for him.

It's incredibly annoying that there's a collection of decent riffs composed by half of GN'R just sitting there because Axl wants to tinker with old Chinese Democracy demos.

Hey maybe that happened to Axl too?!

I mean, it happened to Kirk Hammett.

Good news for the rest of the CD/Leaks.

I liked Absurd and Hardschool, so it's nice to think of another 4-6 of those kinda things being drip fed as we go.

As for a fresh album newly recorded. In theory it's a killer idea. But I have reservations...like:

1. What will Axl's voice be like?

2. Does slash have inspiration? Hopefully going for a GNR sound breaks up the way the last couple of Myles projects have dropped quality from the early ones.

3. What's the timeline on getting it done, given it's GNR, and given Axl would have to create stuff from scratch. I mean if they arn't going to even start till post 2023 tour...that's best case of starting writing/recording 2023-early 2024....it's hard to think that this is something that would show up before at least 2025 if not 2026 and given it's GNR maybe longer.

That said...the fact he was positive about doing a record and not like "it's GNR anything might happen man, who knows, it's guns the sky could impode, who can say" is actually super exciting itself. Suggests they have at least in principle discussed that as an idea.

In the meantime, roll on the drip feed, I just want State of Grace!!!!!!

1. Perfectly fine. In studio he can do multiple takes, he's rested and not running around on stage. Rock The Rock sounded perfectly good.

2. Yes. The riffs on his solo albums are great. Couple that with some Axl-penned lyrics and it'll be magic.

3. That's the big question, isn't it?

A newly-written and recorded album is all I've ever wanted from this band. It sounds like they're clearing out the Chinese leftovers from the archives before they move on.

I have to say, I do like the idea of a UYI 3 album, released simulatenously with the box set. But, like always it's too good to be true.

I'd like a UYI III if it was written and recorded with the current line-up. Slapping some overdubs on Chinese Democracy-era demos and then cynically branding it as a follow-up to one of their most iconic albums is a bit fucking cheeky in my book. I want to hear what Fortus and Slash come up with in jam sessions where they write and record as a coherent unit.

We’ve waited for CD II longer than we’ve waited for CD.

Stay of Execution was a good album name. Axl just doesn’t give a shit.

I always liked the implicit pun there – with Axl fending off record company suits who wanted him to reunite with the OG line-up, the album was literally a "stay of execution" for the CD-era band.

Sorry, in what universe is 1980s/90s Axl "not really conventionally attractive"? Have you seen the man's cheekbones and jawline?

Like I say: nothing against Myles personally, and he's obviously a talented musician. I just struggle to connect with him.
