Great job on the lyrics.
That makes me wonder...out of all the bullshit General lyrics over the past 20 years, I wonder if any of them had some of the real lyrics?
I guess there's no way to ever really know.
they’re discussing these leaks on HTGTH. I thought in the past any discussion about leaks was forbidden. I could be wrong though.
If he stopped discussion on this set of leaks right now it would probably kill what is left of his forum.
They're probably coming out soon anyways...so why not let them discuss it?
reading the lyrics, I could see how its a sequel to Estranged, because in estranged its pretty much losing the love of his life, and in the general and monsters is him pretty much being in a dark place bc of it, and almost giving up and in the monsters section, its almost like he is in hell because he off'd himself.
It would be interesting to try and breakdown the lyrics.
The Monster part of the song also fits really well with the since I dont have you video

Daddy don't!
(I swear I won't!)
I'll be good from now on - and I'm awful sorry.Daddy don’t!
(The hell I won’t!)
I won't be good anymore - and you'll all be sorry. Can anybody help me with this pain?
It just won't stop!
Can anybody help me?
This pain - it just won't stop!My only regret
is that I never took the time to forget (forgive???)
all those unspoken feelings
that you’ll never spare. (that we’ll never share???)
And those who understand it
have your respect (have no something??)
and not your sordid meaning. (a new distorted meaning??Don't know what to tell you now - it's never really what they tell you now.
Don't know what to tell you now - it's not really what they tell you now.Don't know what to tell you now – it ain’t really what they tell you now.

ha feel free to piggyback off mine and make any chances you think I got wrong.
I just did a couple of passes on it. Some could be off.

All those unspoken feelings
That were never spared
And those who understand

Don't know what to tell you now
It's never really what they tell you now
You oughta know what they tell you now
And not really what they tell you now
Don't know what to tell you now
It ain't really what they tell you now
Don't go where they tell you now
It ain't really what they tell you now
My only regret
Is that I never took the time to forgive
All those unspoken feelings
That were never spared
And those who understand
And lack self respect
And not just sordid meaning

Monsters
The monsters in hell with me
A Tour da force of an evil passion
A broken heart that was out of fashion
A dynamic duo in your big attraction
My early warning was your satan laughing
I was there for you
It’s all I could do
Oh but it’s over now
Oh but it’s over now
I was there for you
It’s all I could do
Oh but it’s over now
Oh but it’s over now
The monsters in hell with me
You stole my soul with the devils romancing
All alone when your bedroom dancin’
I thought I could feel somebody worth havin’
But in the end I guess you’re good for the damin’
I was there for you
It’s all I could do
Oh but it’s over now
Oh but it’s over now
The monsters in hell with me
The more I did what I did I did for you
There’s no excuses for the hell on earth you put me through
I never cared how much I cared but I cared for you
To make it better there was nothing that I wouldn’t do
I doubt there’s anybody living who wants to know the truth
The dirty secret that you hid away inside of you
Whoever thought I’d be around to shed a light on you
Well heres the story baby I got nothing else to do
I was there for you
It’s all I could do
Oh but it’s over now
Oh but it’s over now
Thanks to Mon Rom (Dondanov) for help with the ranting part In the second half of the song and Gagarin, Moneychow and Dark for some corrections on the parts I could not figure out.

The General is fucking perverse, Axl's wails along with Slash shredding are great, and the horror movie melody is pure Buchethead, like Shackler Reven or Sorry, Slash has done a very good job instead of Buckethead because that smells like chicken !
If the first part is the current band, I would assume that shredding is Fortus and not Slash. If it is Slash then why cant he shred like that live on TWAT lol

I wouldn't put it past them to put these out.
These are certainly not line out audio rips taken from loose vinyl. So they're either 1.) old and it's from a gentleman collector with a cunning sense of timing, 2.) an insider leak used as a blocking strategy, 3.) a quasi-insider leak from somewhere in the supply chain.
Imagine if there are the DJ Ashba versions LOL jk.

I'm speculating on this one but I also wonder if that line is "there's no excuses for the hell on earth you put me through"
I might be hearing things there though it's hard to make out.
Thanks for all your work with the lyrics, I love to read into what Axl is saying with these kinds of songs.
yeah i think you are right
it also fits better in the structure of the songs
The ranting part is the part I had most trouble with. Dondanov was a huge help on that part since I couldn't make out a lot of it lol
I am still not sure on the "But in the end I guess you’re good for the damin’" line
the last word I cant quite make out but I think its close
As for what Axl is saying on these songs
I think these songs are about just giving up, which makes them super dark if true

Shacklermyrye wrote:Don't you kind of feel like there the same song split into 2 parts? That old tour intro is in both songs. Monsters is far better I agree.
I've seen some say it was one song originally and they decided to turn it into two songs. I really don't know.
Me personally, I think the songs are very different, while having some similarities. Just like State of Grace has some similarities with Monsters, but is still very different.
My guess would be that Monsters was known as Soul Monster, which if true, would mean it and The General have been separate songs for as long as we've heard about them.
The weird thing is, if it is two songs then why put both on the record single and not just one? Its odd to have 9 mins of music as the B side and the A side only be 4 minutes when the songs split would match nicely with the side for Perhaps

I've listened to the instrumentals several times and it definitely sounds like two different lineups. Then again I don't really know anything.
The monsters parts if you listen to the bass and guitars sounds like it could be a VR song
