Wow amazing article, thanks for the scan.

That some fans gets embarrassed, well, I can understand that not being a top priority in the GNR-camp...
That actually raises a good point. I think the choices for arenas after knowing the data (ie previous sales in American markets) showcases Axl's ego more than anything. That being said, I'm sure he does care when they place isn't packed. The worst I saw was in Jax Florida. They came on late and it was Halloween. People were leaving in droves after only the first 3-4 songs. By the end of the night it was more than half empty, there was hardly anybody left. They only did one song for the encore too, and I can guarantee you that was because of crowd size (or lack there of. ) We were able to go right up the front (side) near the end of the concert. Even those seats had left...think about that.
If it's simply ticket sales than perhaps 8000 tix (half empty arena) sold vs 4000 tix (sold out smaller venue) may be better for raw dollars. The thing that always comes back to me is operating expenses. Yes 8000 tickets is obviously more money, but when you factor in the overheard to put on such a big production, plus the operations costs of a full sized arena, it could very well yield a loss. I don't know don't what kind of money it takes to pull of an arena sized show, but I can't imagine it's cheap.
Again though, just like anything else, if they do poorly or break even in American markets it may not mean shit since they were a gain overall for the year. I'd imagine whoever finances the tour is looking for a return on their money and that is the risk involved. If the profits are Europe 10, Asia 15, S. America 15, USA -2, it's still a net gain of 38. Board members always think America is the end all and be all, and don't look at the big picture.
Away from the numbers and simply as a fan it drives me crazy because GnR have the capability to be huge again in America. That's why I like smaller venues. It creates buzz...another sold out show where they WENT ON STAGE ON TIME and fucking killed it for 3 hours. Make a killer video and put it on youtube. Be a surprise guest on Letterman (stay still and don't run out of breath) or somewhere else...whatever. It's not that hard to do. They already (still) have an uphill battle for not being Old GNR, then add into the mix the unprofessional behavior (I don't want to hear that's how Axl is, everybody else shows up on time and plays), half empty venues and the press just slams them for it. If they tweaked a few things they would actually get good press for a change and whip something up. I dunno....they whole thing is a let down.
I'll see them in Miami and Tampa and that will be fun. The days of paying top dollar for seats and traveling all over to see this band are long gone though.

Those "micro details" are apparent to everybody except the band. The main detail being that their US market is weak and should be tweaked to fit that fact. While they may continue on throughout the rest of the world as it is the 90's, in America they can't. I guess it is frustrating to some of us, because it's so obvious what they could do to remedy this. I've been to the half empty/full arenas in many cities...it's embarrassing.

That's fantastic compared to the GOP Congress's lowly 13 percent approval rating. I'd imagine the worst rating ever.
#2545 Re: The Garden » dating games... f-ing stupid » 730 weeks ago
Life is too short to date little girls who play games. Don't participate, don't get angry, just move on to the next girl. It's as simple as that.
I'd rather be single then have any kind of relationship with a girl who plays head games.

They won't do any of that, I can bet my last buck. Which is ridiculous because the American market, with the exception of particular cities, does poorly when compared with the rest of the world. But just like any other business, they probably just look at the net yield at the end of the tour. That's all that really matters anyway, ignoring the embarrassment of half empty arenas.
Really the key is doing smaller venues, showing up on time, and putting on a helluva show. They already do 1/3 of that anyway, so how hard is to NOT make people wait and book what would sell out?
Also at this point, Axl has been touring on Chinese Democracy for a decade, which is a total joke.
I do wonder how the Miami turn out will be though. That city, as everybody knows, has a heavy Latin influence. As we also know they (Latins) are fucking crazy for GnR, so they may very well sell out that arena.

I'll be down in Miami, if anybody else will be (assuming this is true) hit me up.

#2549 Re: The Garden » Judge: Casey Anthony must serve probation in FL » 732 weeks ago
I'm sorry, I disagree with this shit. It's nothing more than some backdoor bullshit. Regardless of how you feel about her being found not guilty, the fact is the justice system found her so. So she was found guilty for check fraud and sentenced to like a year in jail and a year prohbation. All the time she did in kail waiting for the results of her child's death case, should be counted towards that time served.
If you believe in the American justice system, then you have to let people who you feel to be guilty, yet our found not so, walk the same as people who you believe are innocent. This girl was found not guilty, so all that time she did in jail waiting for a trial and during, was time she shouldn't have had to serve due to her being foudn innocent. That loss of time should count.
I agree. Why couldn't it be counted as time served already? It would have for anybody else but her. They want to get her on probation, keep her close, and hope she violates.

I AM FUCKING THERE if they play Ruth Eckerd Hall.
Dec 16th?
That'd be a great Christmas gift for me and a couple other people who have begged me to take them to a GN'R show since they missed out in 2006. I'm still gonna try to make that Bucket show in Sept.
I find it very difficult to believe they'd play there. The place is run by volunteer senior citizens. I also can't imagine it staying open until 2 am either.
That being said, it's what I consider the absolute best size venue for this band. However I don't like the layout of Ruth Eckerd Hall. Although I do see shows there every now and then. The last one being Don Rickles and Joan Rivers.
Also that venue was popular in the 80's because there really weren't that many places to see shows. Now we have the amphitheater by the fairgrounds and of course the St. Pete Times arena. I just find it difficult to believe, but hey if it happens I'll be there.
