I still say that the music industry got themselves in to this mess - and it's kind of pathetic that they're resorting to stuff like this to begin with.

The servers of OiNK.cd - one of the most popular private BitTorrent trackers - are raided and the admin, a 24-year-old man from Middlesbrough, is arrested.

OiNK.cd Servers Raided, Admin ArrestedThe British and the Dutch police both contributed to the investigation that was initiated by the IFPI and the BPI, two well known anti-piracy organizations. The operation was supported by Interpol who coordinated the international cooperation.

According to early reports OiNk's servers were confiscated in Amsterdam last week. This seems to be unlikely because the site was still fully functional 24 hours ago. The administrator of OiNK was arrested this morning by the Cleveland Police. The BBC reports that his employer and the home of his father were raided as well.

Jeremy Banks, Head of the IFPI's Internet Anti-Piracy Unit, said in a reponse to the news: 'OiNK was central to the illegal distribution of pre-release music online. This was not a case of friends sharing music for pleasure. This was a worldwide network that got hold of music they did not own the rights to and posted it online.'

OiNK hosted hundreds and thousands of torrents with over a million peers which makes it more popular than most public trackers. The site was known to be one of the first places where leaked music albums appeared, so anti-piracy outfits such as MediaDefender were keeping a close eye on it.

In July the tracker already changed its name from OiNK.me.uk to OiNK.cd due to 'legal' issues with their domain registrar. Unfortunately it now seems that the popular private BitTorrent tracker is in bigger trouble.

- I know James said that you can't get in trouble for downloading, mainly just for uploading. How could they possibly go after the site's users in this case?

Axl on lead vocals?!

BRING - IT - ON!

#256 Re: Guns N' Roses » The next two things to look forward to? » 922 weeks ago

Am I the only person that will be getting the 3 songs with Axl from iTunes and not worrying about the rest of the CD?

How is the bonus audio/video material that you get with the book? Any full songs, or just bullshit short clips?

#259 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » A.X.L. » 923 weeks ago

1976 - 1979?

Impossible.

Axl was still in Lafayette at that time. He didn't get to Hollywood until '81-'82.

Rose/Hollywood Rose was responsible for all of those songs.

I'm still waiting on those Rapidfire demos to be released...

I concur with everyone thing else being said - SBQM was a HORRIBLE choice for a first single. The album was D.O.A.

However, I don't think "Messages" is that great either - and it certainly wouldn't have saved the album. A good tribute song, but not the masterpiece that everyone seems to make it out to be.

Let's not forget, VR also technically had a 4th single during the Contraband era with "Come On, Come In" from the Fantastic Four soundtrack. They were just all over during that time, and a lot people bought into the "Stone Temple Roses" supergroup. The novelty has worn off. Same thing happened with Audioslave.

I predict one more album for VR, and a swan song theater tour, and then Weiland goes back to reform STP, and Slash, Duff and (ugh) Sorum - wait for the phone call from Axl.
