People are against dialysis? What sort of dystopia is that? Not like people going on dialysis for fun.

For a long time I was an audiophile and resisted streaming...but then I decided to try it....and after a while it's hard to go back...my entire collection..plus all new music...plus almost anything I look for on a while...all available everywhere on every single one of my devices, all at the touch of a button....
There's whole playlists of stuff I have now that isn't the kind of thing it would be safe for me to blow $30 on a CD to see if I like the album....
I get why people are resistant..but at the end of the day it's a good product for users, that said, as an audio guy I will always be happy for them to increase quality.

I think someone from the band would have signed off on the mix.
I'm really struggling with it cos I actually like the new strings, for my taste I just need the outro mix changed up a bit cos the way those huge marshalls kick in during the outro was very emotional and it feels neutered now lol.

It does remind me of the george lucas situation where the technology of the 1997 Starwars is better - space ship compositing etc - but the creative choices may not be - Han shooting last etc.
It's a bit like that - the sound quality here is awesome, and the full orchestra is beautiful - but the mixing choices of which instruments to highlight at certain parts may not be.
Even though the new version sounds better in some ways, I actually think the outro section the creatives choices of the 1991 version are superior. I really wish they'd given us both. I guess we have the old version at least - but I would have liked a remaster of it as well.

I personally didn't care for it too much. I thought the orchestra part was too high in the mix
This is my thing too...i think the new orchestra parts are super cool..but so are the original vocals/guitar etc.
I think the fact they were new and added has biased the mix - like whoever was giving it the "ok" was focused on that and listening to that cos thats the bit they are changing, and it's come at the expense of some of the other dynamics of the song.
What I mean is...if this orchestra had been used in the original recording in 1991, they still would have turned slash up in the build up to the outro cos the dynamics of the song in 1991 called for that....these days though...adding a part 40 years later I feel it creates an unnatural mix kinda. So you get a situation where the end of the song the new effects are cranked and the classic outro is neutered...but Mike in 1991 would gave been excited by slash's new tone the way we were about the new triangle bell or whatever now...and would mix it more fairly.

I'm torn...
I mean in a way it's beautiful to hear all the instruments with modern separation in the mix, and the instrumental parts are charming using real instruments.
On the other hand, there's some aspects I'm not sure about, the guitars building up to the outro seem sort of slightly neutered and well...I dunno there's nothing wrong with it as such...it's just the original is one of the greatest recordings of all time AS IS....so like it's a bit like the shot for shot remake of pyscho....interesting but why?
I think maybe at this stage as an old man, i've heard NR thousands if not hundreds of thousands of times as the 1991 version...to me this is cool the way a random live version is cool...but I'm just so invested in the original now that anything else sounds "wrong" even if it's technically better.

I actually liked some of his tunes on The Sea, but this is just embarrassing. The lyrics, the trying too hard, the trying to imitate Scott's phrasing, the video... Back when VR broke up and Scott seemed to clash with Matt the most, Scott complaint about Matt's ego and desire to sing throughout all the songs. Well, who would have a guessed that the first VR song post-Scott would have Matt on lead vocals
Myself I have a Ton of respect for Matt, he's my fav GNR drummer and a badass in VR, I love him - but I do think he belongs behind the kit not upfront.
Indeed, I thought of scotts words too:
As for our fans I will sweat, bruise, and bleed for you. And will continue to do so until the end of this tour. However, you deserve to hear VELVET REVOLVER playing not certain individuals singing along to get a muddied up sound. God forbid could one imagine if I grabbed a guitar and started soloing along with Slash? That would never happen because I know my place. It's a shame we were a gang. But ego and jealousy can get the better of anyone. I wish the best and plan to annihilate the stage in the last few shows.

Years ago I was playing around editing some 2006 Axl onto some 2010 slash parts. I'm not very good at that stuff and you'd need better raw material to work with than I had too probably back then, but it sure had potential. Sounded basically like if we'd had the reunion in 2010 or so lol.

I wish i could remember the exact moment that i no longer considered any of you friends.
I do occasionally muse how this site would have faired if we'd never had a politics or current events thread.
I mean maybe it's what's kept it active during Axl's laundromat years, and it's logical to have a thread for world events etc, but there are a few times where one person or another I felt like i kinda knew from years of GNR banter has been pretty abrupt in here and I'm like "oh...ok..then" and had to remind myself that it's not personal really.
I worry about the underlying mood of everything that all our relationships in every sphere of life seem to become polarised around this stuff.
In a way the most odd thing about all this to me is i can see each side has a reason to think like it does, but most people immediately assume the other-side are just bad people. Like in all of society. I'm starting to feel like we're in the fall of rome or something here.

Yeah i'm not bagging it, maybe i'm just not creative enough for it or something.
Like Absurd to me plays like a song like "Whole Lotta Love" or something like that...simple guitar riff that kinda rocks out and people jam over and that kinda stuff. I just feel like some of these other instrumentals I wouldn't know where to start they seem like movie scores. They are cool though.
