#251 Re: Guns N' Roses » If GNR goes on hiatus, NuGuns should reunite » 98 weeks ago
The problem with anything new gnr related is $$$. Writing credits and touring will all lead to the old lineup. To much red tape for new gnr to have a run in any capacity. The only thing I can maybe see is some sort of box set of the CD era that Slash and Duff sign off on and throw Axl and company a bone. Even that can potentially undermine the current band if the versions with Bucket and Finck blow away the reworked songs.
Its time for Axl to move on from that era anyway since it doesn't have a future. Pick a few more songs for Slash to work on and release them. It's time to start focusing on new material with the current lineup.
Good point on how Slash/Duff have to sign off on everything.
Agree that it's time to move on. I think they're about to and that's why we're now getting these mythical songs.
They know which songs the fans have wanted for decades. One more batch would essentially wrap it up.
Do one more drip feed, have GNR management address the issue with hardcore fans telling them the CD saga is over and a new chapter has begun, and they'll see a lot of the negativity go away.
They don't have to release the rest of the material to please 99% of the hardcore base. Just the main songs.
Atlas
Oklahoma
Seven
Boom... Chinese over.

Goin down is just a gorilla village head left over
Its a good tommy solo song but not a good GNR song
It reminds me of the discussion back then how fans speculated there might be an Axl/GNR song on VGH.
Little did we know....there could've/should've been.
It shows how out of wack that 2004-5 period really was. During his promo before and after its release, he never even mentioned those two songs.
I said this the other day but I think the things the fanbase thought they knew for sure (eg. Me and my Elvis being Soulmonster) actually aren't sure at all.
Absolutely.
The fan base was never kept in the loop. We were looked down on with contempt by GNR management and they frowned on anyone giving us updates.
Hell...Frank is too scared to even mention a fucking song!
We depend on old archived quotes that clearly have varying degrees of reliability.
Axl himself hasn't commented on this stuff in about 12-13 years.

Where in the hell is Claude? Dude was ready to sell his soul for The General and Soul Monster and now he's nowhere to be found.
BigBri really needs to come back.
Who else out of our main cast is missing?
Pasnow is another.

It’s 2 songs imo….subject matter is completely different….General is about child abuse and Monsters is about Seymour….again, just my opinion.
I agree.
They may link them for whatever reason but they were clearly two different songs at some point.
I don't know how anyone watches any of that GNR YouTube content. Pure garbage. You couldn't pay me to watch it.
I'd actually prefer it not be promoted here.
Stuff like shackler's SoundCloud/YouTube channel is perfectly fine or other Evo member accounts but the stuff like mentioned above is pure hogwash.

Big Guns could be going down or a new version of Oh My God... But this is weird....
Going Down a big gun?
Going Down is barely a wart on the ass of Dust N Bones/14 Years/So Fine.
I know the final version will be better. I'm sure.
But i have the perception that these songs, including perhaps, state of grace, Atlas etc are leftovers... Worse level than CD songs.
If this is the case, please leave them
Yes they're leftovers...but leave them?
It's all we're going to get! The fan base has hung in all these years for the final big guns.
If they leave them, you'll see an immediate exodus from these forums... including yourself.
Izzy must be busy doing donuts around his house with a dirt bike.
Seriously, what is this guy up to? Seems he is not married and he hasn't released a solo album since 2010.
The Not In This Lifetime tours have been a never ending commercial for AFD and GH.
He's swimming in royalties from the past 7 years.

I am just glad all this stuff is coming out.
Me too.
We're finally rounding 3rd and headed for home.
One more leak of the right tracks would do it.

With the year coming to an end, this is probably the surprising celeb death of 2023.
Sad. Must have been a heart attack.
I always hated Friends. Couldn't believe it was a huge craze back in the day.

Everyone forgets the interludes... probably because it was only mentioned once.
Both these songs may have initially had an interlude sandwiched between them.
I wish we could've had the real Chinese Democracy before the leaks and long wait got out of control.
Even if the track list largely stays the same, it could've been different.
the interlude is eye on you
When listening to those discs I did wonder if some of that stuff was possibly used for interludes.
A shortened As It Began has interlude written all over it. So does Nothing.
The long CD intro on the album may have been a surviving interlude. Years earlier it might not have opened the album..but been the bridge that leads to another track.

James wrote:dave-gnfnr wrote:the best thing about you and this forum is it was the only true forum for the fans that didn't kiss the bands or TBs butt for speical perks. Its why this is the only GNR forum I go to anymore.
One of the reasons I felt ok taking the hard stance I did is because I knew the Axl from our youth would have respected it. Maybe he did respect it in 2006-8.
He joined HTGTH, mygnr, CD.com and Evo in 2008 for chats.
Guess which one he didn't actually post on?
It pissed people off but it was a nice gesture. He didn't have to sign up at all. Could have ignored us like he did those other forums like newgnr, GNRsource, gnfnr, etc.
When the official GNR site posted the chat transcripts, they linked to the transcripts posted here instead of the others.
James, what happened to the gnfr forum?
I don't know the details. I only posted there sporadically and hadn't been on there since right after the Village Leaks. That Brasky thread there was their all time best thread.
It was forum drama that killed it. That much I do know.

James refresh my mind on the interludes thing.
I just looked it up and it's not in CD Whispers. Fuck.
It was probably a Stinson and/or Fortus email in 2005 and obviously all those types of things weren't archived. The majority of CD Whispers is articles/interviews.
I've said this before but a fuck ton of CD related content is lost to history.
We're lucky we have as much as we do.
To answer the question...
Tommy mentioned how it wasn't going to be a long album and they were working on interludes at the time (2004-5). Fortus might have mentioned it too.
Later I'm gonna try to find it buried on HTGTH.
