#2651 Re: Guns N' Roses » Of the new three leaks, which songs do you actually like? » 887 weeks ago
I didn't like Rhiad and hated Prostitute for the first listens... it hasn't changed. I found If The World interesting that needed more listens... now I don't have a final opinion on the song yet, but I don't really like it...
#2652 Re: Guns N' Roses » Overall feelings on the CD era songs.... » 888 weeks ago
Axl probably said those were his fave songs because they were gonna play them.
Anyway, as I mentioned in the post in the Untitled song, either you will "get it" or you "don't".
These may be A-list material but they're not finished, especially Untitled sounds like a demo. And maybe a rather old demo too. I can't hear Buckethead on there. So before or after BH maybe. These are musical pieces above what VR does or Motley Crue or any other rock band you might wanna compare GNR to. Axl is above all that and this is what we get. If you're a die hard rocker you won't be able to dig this because it doesn't sound like Appetite or Illusion. Which is the problem with the material too. Axl is making masterpieces for the wrong crowd of a fanbase. If he's gonna bring those people on for the ride, he have to take it VERY slowly because without warning, going from Jungle to If The World will be a culture crash.
I "get it" because I have been prepared for 8 years. I see most people here "get it" as well, if others do Im not so sure. Sorry to say.
I think you're wrong, but I respect your opinion. IMO Axl's material isn't too advanced for the world... it's simply not good enough. I listen a lot of music, from very different genres, nobody can say I'm not open-minded, but a typical dumb-ass rocker. (You didn't say that, of course.) But Axl clearly got off the track. The demos mirror his long-debated mental state: cheesy and disturbed, sometimes agressive. It could be good, but unfortunately the material is mostly a pure mess.

James Lofton wrote:These demos(all of them) shit all over VR in my opinion.
Its not even close.
i am surprised anyone would disagree
I disagree, but I don't wanna hijack the thread It's clear that Axl has a lot of ambition - which VR seems/seemed to totally lack... half-assed song-writing, one riff is one song... eh... but the Axl staff suffers of the lack of spontanity and... yes... good ideas. The VR thing is mostly typical a good idea here and thee, but a rushed and too simple song in the end. NuGN'R's songs aren't simple, but why need to add more synth lines if you don't have a good idea to work on it? The biggest problem of the Axl era GN'R is that it's a puzzle of bad, medisocre or better ideas, and then 2 years later another people try to add something to make it work..then another and another... I couldn't decide between TWAT and Messages, Better and Slither... but when it comes to Riyadh and Big Machine the only thing I can think of is why they didn't nix it. So much wasted time...
Back on topic. My biggest problem with the Axl era GN'R is not that it's different from the classic era. I expected Axl to change and he tried to do something new, which is great. But he clearly didn't/doesn't have focus, couldn't rid of his cheesy 80s roots (which wasn't part of the classic GN'R!) and didn't have people talented enough, to write songs for him. Bucket is really good here and there, but the others... it could be Fasttracker 2 and nobody would realize. To tell the truth the whole thing sounds like something made on Fasttracker 2. Pitman is the biggest disappointment for me.

After one listen... it's a mess, and not a good one. I love Dream Theater where a lot of going on, but the new songs (and I'm talking about the brand new ones) clearly prove that Axl really lacks good ideas. Don't get me wrong, they tried everything... It's clear that they worked very hard on the songs... but if you don't have a good idea, then don't put another 3 keyboards line, just to try to find something that's absolutely missing... Riyadh is such a lame-ass 80s Back Off Bitch copy with some modern elements added to sound 'up-to-date'...sorry Axl, you missed it. As for This I Love(????)...it's totally uninspired bullshit. I can't recall a single moment from the song. If The World is the best of the bunch, although I'm a bit sick of mid-temp Nu-GN'R songs... Anyway, it's good. Far from mind-blowing, but good eoungh and interesting. Unfortunately it seems that Axl had one classic song (TWAT), a great one (Better), some good enough (If The World, CD), but the rest is mediocre at best.
Axl...if you're into 'modern music', then why can't you leave behing the 80s cheese? This album will be a huge disappointment and will tank. And I'm not happy to say this, cause I wanted Axl to succeed... but he's not enough to achieve his goals.
:wtf:

Yeah, Loaded isn't something serious. Duff will never be really committed to a band anymore. He and Izzy moved on.
#2656 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » DUFF MCKAGAN Joins Digital Music Company as an Advisor » 888 weeks ago
Duff wants to reach beyond Velvet Revolver. He has a finance degree and a passion for music.
"This is also a chance for me personally to get more active in the business world, which is one of my long-term personal goals."
Not to mention the company's Seattle-based, which was likely a nice little bonus.
Duff's playing it smart. Next time you might see him on stage could be a GNR reunion.
You are right. I have a feeling that playing in a band isn't his goal anymore and he wants to try to do another segments of the music business.
#2657 Re: Guns N' Roses » Let the reunion rumors roll... » 889 weeks ago
You get a better result if you take your sweet time and show up at rehearsals and sound-checks. Axl rarely does, so it's not a miracle his live sound isn't perfect.
#2658 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Slash Working on Solo Album, Not Waiting on Velvet Revolver » 889 weeks ago
I think he has some material left from the pre-VR sessions when he was working on a solo album of different styles of music. I recall him talking about African and Asian influences... that'd be pretty cool. To be honest I expect him to do something unusual and not the usual 'Slash rocks out' stuff.

#2660 Re: Guns N' Roses » New Baz interview - mentions Axl, Slash and CD » 890 weeks ago
They stated that the band will have a new name, didn't they? So Bach won't betray Axl if he joins another band. Anyway, Baz could be on Slash's solo album. BTW it's funny that Sebastian mentions 3 old GN'R songs as his favourites
