#261 Re: Guns N' Roses » Chinese Democracy official reviews thread » 867 weeks ago

I agree madagas, I have said to my friends that Chinese Democracy is the most depressing record I will own.

Maybe it's because these reviewers just don't know the history of Axl? I would think Fricke would have, but even then.

I don't think Spaghetti Incident should really be compared against any of GNR's other work. I think a lot of people get what GNR were really trying to do with the album, but those who don't and consider it a flop need to remind me of how an album of relatively obscure punk covers is ever going to go multiplatinum?

It's not that I hate reunion theories, but I hate how people often assume everyone's just going to come back and fall to Axl's feet again. It's been a decade for some bandmates, longer for others and they don't seem to be worrying about going back to GNR then, so why should we believe they're going to do it now?

Izzy's not going to come back to play other people's songs, if Slash comes back, does Axl sing some VR? Maybe Axl rocks some Izzy solo stuff? This is way complicated and no one's going to drop and imitate Buckethead if Axl isn't going to respect the projects they've done since their parting. In my mind, if a reunion were to happen they'd just play old tunes. No one's going to come back to please Axl, and Axl's pretty much fucked himself over too, he's probably more desperate than the rest of the guys. Izzy doesn't care, Slash, Matt and Duff only need a singer. Axl needs lead guitar and rhythm guitar, maybe a bass player at least. And, the old band don't seem like the types of dudes to bring in 400 other musicians and leave the stage while another musician plays their part. They want to come in, play hard and real, and get the fuck out. They're not going to be a part of a freak show.

Reunion talk - fine - but come on, display Axl's weaknesses too. Do people really think GNR is gonna reunite and tour with 10 guitar players?

In my opinion, Robin can't say shit about Bucket.  His image was just as weird during 2002, if not weirder in my opinion.

Robin isn't even good enough to play in a cover band of Adler's GNR cover band. I am not usually a fan of Buckethead's style of music, but the guy won me over. It's similar to the old stuff at a fundamental level, but it's different. I think he and Axl were great and he could have been the new Slash, but Axl went and pissed it all away.

I would like to say Robin was mad that a guy in a KFC bucket could outplay him no problem, but I can outplay Robin no problem and I can't even play a chord. Robin's inclusion in GNR is uplifting in a way; it proves everyone has a shot at being a Guns N' Roses guitarist. Inspiring, indeed.

I wondered the same thing about Catcher, James. No way he skips over that one if he didn't like the demo better.

The answer to this is there are a million things Axl's crazy ass could be doing this for and few make a lick of sense. Bottom line is the ball is dropped again, as it always is. The only redeeming factor is if Axl himself is embarrassed of the Chinese Democracy process and just wants it off his head to go on and make a new record in a proper time frame.

To me, Axl's legacy dies more and more every day. He did great things in the rock world for 6 years... need a little more than that, though.

instead of typing 10 things, how about typing N0THING ever again....go away and listen to something else. 10

You sleep at the foot of Uncie Axl's bed in la-la land?

If Axl would stick to using real instruments instead of fake gadgetry, we'd get more of this. A little bit is all right, but I just don't feel the fake sounds too often (unless it's like November Rain and they're meant to sound real). Especially in rock music, I always feel it loses a lot of heart.

They play the advertisements for GNR all the time during Trailer Park Boys episodes, fittingly.

Of all the leaks, the only one I'm really tempted to download is Catcher because I just can't believe they would change damn near anything about the music in that song. It sounds like they just pissed away Estranged 2 from all I can gather. People can hype TWAT all they want, but it's not universal enough to become as powerful as Estranged is or Catcher was. My main problem with CD is Axl's lack of vocabulary and his singular songs that are extremely relevant to him, but should have been written broader so more people could relate to his music. TWAT is about Axl Rose, Estranged is about Axl Rose but subtle enough that anyone can take something from that song.

Like Adler being kicked out of the band for drugs, May's exclusion is almost like a bad joke. They replaced Brian May with... Robin Finck? Are you fucking kidding?
