Just poking my head in here to say I’m happy this forum and James are still around. I remember the excitement in the lead up to 2008 and being a goddamn kid on here.

Good to see you back! Had it not been for you, I probably would still never have watched The Sopranos. I remember considering it in 2008 and you really lobbied hard for me to move it up my Netflix DVD queue.

I should've sent you a message on mygnr but I don't like asking people to come back here. 16 I figure if people want to come back, they'll come back.

At least your user name/password worked. Site has a glitch where it locks you out of your account if you've went years without logging in.

Any ideas on how the leak surfaced? Is what we are hearing likely to be the final version?

Hopefully it's never public knowledge who leaked them. No sense burning that bridge.

Yeah... while I do understand the curiosity since there's always craziness surrounding leaks, in this case I think we're better off letting the sleeping dog lie and just being grateful we got it right as the fan base was having a collective conniption fit from hell over the vinyl fiasco.

The fact that it leaked here... although not the first song to leak here... hopefully not the last...is intriguing. That guy/girl could have literally posted it anywhere...mygnr, bad Apples, HTGTH, Hoffman, torrents, discords, social media platforms...yet they chose Evo.

I gotta listen to that first and second Portishead album. 99.9% of the time I listen to Portishead, it's the 3rd album.

Best song on that album...

The more I hear The General...the more I hear Portishead.

Good to see you back Dale.

In trying to figure out the lyrics, these are missing some of the things we've seen in Axl lyrics -  The General is....VCV... or just all chorus, or whatever, but there's no switch up (that I can tell) - lots of Axl's choruses never actually repeated 100%, usually there's a switch up. Like I would have expected a "My only regret" to turn into "I'll never regret" the last time it comes around. There's also no climax moment in the General, typified by The Blues or Prostitute, or like in Monsters when he goes into rant section. General is just oddly...symmetrical.

The General feels unfinished... abandoned.  That abrupt ending needed something else to wrap it up. Is this why it now has Monsters attached to it?

can''t quite figure out what Evader's lyrics have to do with The General's leak.

Evaders version was his interpretation of what the song would sound like.

On top of figuring out the lyrics, he also included music from other songs.

It's crazy how close he came to it. Wrong lyrics obviously but he was on the right track.

leaker probably cut the song in two to make it easier  to upload and download

These were obviously two different songs at some point in the saga...even in the off chance it's not Soul Monster.

We're not going to know until release how this is formatted. Separate... combined...or hidden track?

Otto and others...did you get the songs?

You new members who got the song here...

Send it to other new members when you see them ask. If you don't, you can look elsewhere when the next leak happens.

With 8 songs released post CD, That's 3/4 of an album! Not that all of them are great, most are not.

It is an album. Might not max out the disc but what we've heard is an album even though a few key tracks are missing....

Absurd
Hard School
Perhaps
The General
Soul Monster

Atlas Shrugged
Going Down
State of Grace

For shits and giggles you could toss Eye On You and Nothing on there...or even finished instrumentals Devious Bastard and Dub Suplex although those are obviously Buckethead songs.

K what sample should we find for Axl? Well he’s sort of like Julius Ceasar’ so we were trying to sample stuff that reflected that. We were looking for old school, crazy shit and I think we sampled Ben-Hur, chopped it up, cut it up and that became a jam, I think we called it ‘Seven’."

Crazy how various "big guns" were pretty much created out of thin air on a whim while bored.

No wonder each song had a million working titles.

Songs named after what you're eating while coming up with it and a brief comparison to Ben Hur leads to Circus Maximus/Ides of March/Seven. God only knows what it will be called if it ever gets released.

Quick Song probably named for how quick they came up with it and not its duration.

Thyme? Stinson probably had a bowl of soup and there wasn't enough thyme...complains...and voila... instrumental finally gets a title.

How does a supposed personal song like Oklahoma get a name change to Berlin? Did one of them eat some schnitzel or play the Civ 4 mod that includes Germany?

It's like no one took the project all that seriously. Axl showing up once in a blue moon, Tommy drinking, Bucket jerking off with dog shit and porn, Finck can't decide if he wants to be with Axl or Reznor, Fortus on his Rhianna tours, Dizzy on hookers and blow...

Is it really a wonder that vocals are still being added to these tracks as late as 2007?

Axl S is right....they're ALL unreliable narrators of the Chinese Democracy story yet they're all we have to give us the few pieces of the puzzle we do have.

We're never going to know all of it or hear all of it.

One of the reasons I'm content with just getting a couple more songs.

Elvis as Seven doesn't make any sense to me. Elvis was mixed and ready to go in March 2000. Brain mentioned writing Seven with Xtract alongside The General before HOB 2001.

The issue with looking at everything in chronological order...and based on 15-20 year old comments...is the fact they clearly started cannibalizing their own songs at some point.

When listening to Eye On You did you think it would get Axl "flown in" to Hard School 20 years later?

Now we've got The General and whatever anyone thinks Monsters is as one song.

For all we know, Me and My Elvis had 5 seconds "flown in" to Circus Maximus and that's Seven.

They only had so many songs to work with. When nothing new gets created past a certain point and you still haven't finished it, it's gonna turn into the Donner party.

#268 Re: Guns N' Roses » Me And My Elvis Instrumental Leak (2019) » 87 weeks ago

Going out on a limb and saying My Elvis it’s actually Seven.

That would rule out Circus Maximus.

In other words...no matter how we crumble this cookie...at least one killer instrumental was likely shit canned fairly early in the saga.

#269 Re: Guns N' Roses » The General and Monsters » 87 weeks ago

Great job on the lyrics.

That makes me wonder...out of all the bullshit General lyrics over the past 20 years, I wonder if any of them had some of the real lyrics?

I guess there's no way to ever really know.

they’re discussing these leaks on HTGTH. I thought in the past any discussion about leaks was forbidden. I could be wrong though.

If he stopped discussion on this set of leaks right now it would probably kill what is left of his forum.

They're probably coming out soon anyways...so why not let them discuss it?

two Jehovah Witnesses were walking up to rign the doorbell. Figured the loud music and lyrical content might have scared them away, but no such luck.

I once got rid of some religious nuts in my 20s when they saw the pentagram on my Slayer shirt.
