Watered down Hard School is… watered down.

I’ll withhold final judgment until I hear an album/demo quality cut but significantly worse than the Sorry downgrade.

Prostitute is a maelstrom

I still think it’s autobiographical

Who needs hooks

Piano only sounds good, the final version has too much going on

Love robins solo

The rasp version is terrible.

The Brain +3dB version is the best that we know of.

But the production here is so suspect. The vocals are trash as we’ve covered.

This song should be synth, strings, keys, drums, Axl’s clean voice, a guitar solo, and a quote montage. Instead we have electric guitars here… for some reason. And don’t get me started on Dizzy’s maracas.

Oh, it's biblical alright. Like a fuckin' plague on my ears.

Love it. Fun song.

I want a Sorry-ified acid version.

Roger Waters is more talented, harder working, and politically lucid than Axl.

#278 Re: Guns N' Roses » Wtf happened to…Riad » 206 weeks ago

Riad instrumental is a monster.

Under-appreciated but I don’t like how it sounds.

Josh’s drums are killer and so is Tommy’s bass but I don’t know. Somethings off.

The 2001 performances had the goods. Felt more organic.

Incomprehensible lyrics for a supposedly important song.

Their most punk songs by far. Like a modern Garden of Eden.

There’s a logic to it.

The original is from the raw, alt-rock version of the album, the RTB version was likely erased out of spite. Axl’s reworking of the album was geared towards heavy electronic guitars so naturally all bass and drums were buried.

BBF did his job. Can’t blame him. He showed more concern for the fans than anyone. What he did could’ve been made to sound better in the mix and Axl wasn’t even in the studio when he recorded it. It’s garbage of course but I don’t blame the fall guy.

Blame Axl and Caram.

It’s more about what it says about the larger project or lack thereof.

It’s all hyper-subjective abstraction without any cohesion, musically or lyrically.

It’s hardly The Wall let alone Wish You Were Here.

If we get an album, big if, my guess it’s AFD meets CD but still a non-cohesive greatest hits compilation.
